Let's imagine that you're in the market for a family saloon car. You want something roomy, reliable, sturdily built and with a quality feel. Volkswagen's Passat ticked all these boxes in its sixth generation guise, just like the five generations before it did, but like those cars, the MKVI Passat was about as exciting as a twelve volume company car tax handbook. If you're after even a smidgeon of flair to go with its other virtues, this car tends to be found wanting. There is an answer though and it's called the Passat CC.

I own this car and love the styling. The frameless windows are pretty cool. The lower ride height and improved aerodynamics really make a difference and give great mpg. Target-market wise, this car ticks all the boxes for me. Its sleek and sexy, feels sporty, and is fully loaded. Most importantly, it allows me to have all those things AND provide maximum space and comfort for the whole family. They get rear heated bucket seats, ample leg room and twin cup holders! I've been driving for 20years, and have only ever owned VW's.

      Is the maintenance expensive?

@@juzeljames7793 Expect to shell out around £1,500 as soon as you buy a 2nd hand one for initial fixes. Hasn't needed any further work over the last year. 160k mileage. my last 2 passats were over 230k mileage and ran up thousands in repair costs over just couple of years and turned into money pits. So definately worth getting the lowest mileage you can, it will pay dividends.

What would be an apprioriate mileage range for driving this car without too much costs?

@@marchiano5933 I buy these around the 130k mileage range because they would have had the cam belt and water pump done and new clutch. Mine has been very smooth sailing so far all the way to 175k. I did buy a passat with 230k miles and it had lots of issues. Needed a new turbo and clutch a month later. One thing you need to be careful of is to use the parking brakes sparingly. Dont use Auto-hold unless you are on a steep hill. Replacing the brake servos are £400 each.

Bought my 2010 cc get last year for 2,250. Fully serviced every year. Mot cost me 80 quid to pass. Replaced all 4 tyres as they needed it= 400 quid. Service due in a month. But will be doing most of that myself so won’t cost much. It’s a fantastic car at that price and whilst it’s a diesel it is v quiet and goes like the clappers. Fuel economy still not far off when new. Best second hand car I’ve ever owned.

Going to look at a 2011 cc 2.0 TDI this evening 100k miles and had cam belt changed apparently any other common faults on theses apart from rust and injectors?

Mine's a 2009 2L tdi 170bhp @ 190k miles. Had the cam belt done twice, maybe ahead of time, in ten years. Both rear shocks, discs, bushings and engine mounts changed recently, but hey it's a high miler at 15 years old. Build quality seems to be great for a VW, ride is good, and the mpg is great even at a quick pace.
Boot lid electrics seem to be a weakness at the age, but the loom can be swapped out for around £100 at home.
Very happy with it over it's life
