A suggestion - I think you need to balance your audio a little better. As it is, the gain is too low and when a commercial pops up, the audio goes from quiet to blasting - same with your clips. I suggest increasing the gain and maybe throw a compressor on the mic channel to smooth things out.
Slightly off topic but could you work on your audio balancing? Your voice is quiet compared to nearly every other video I watch and your cut of OSP was their normal volume which is at least 170% of yours. Makes it difficult to listen to as I either have to listen to your whispers or risk blowing out my ears. Other than that issue, I appreciate and agree with your video.

Their is a difference between putting mythology of something into a setting/ themed thing and taking a term used to categorise an entire group of people and putting stuff onto it, for example if you were to create a subclass of villainous paladins and called them the catholic order of therizdun, that would probably ruffle a few feathers. Also dungeons and dragons has angels and demons in the setting they have custom lore and themes associated with them. The "witch" motif isnt really a fully fleshed out thing in the setting often being boiled down to a catch all term for hags/villainous female spellcasters, etc etc. I get why irl witches would be annoyed by this because historically speaking people used the term witch as a derogatory and exploitative term, usually to lobotomize women. I think a large portion of these convos of the woke agenda or whatever, can just be boiled down to rage baiting, usually cause its a lucrative field of content creation and entertainment.

There are people who are actively trying to get rid of anything related to christianity in these properties too... but they are ignored. Curious why that is? Their problem isn't a lack of problems. Their problem is that contributing to solving real problems takes actual effort, and they don't actually want to do that. But they also conscious about the real problems, and can't feel like they're the heroes of their own story if they aren't doing anything to solve any of those problems in the world. Witches have always been present in fiction and pop culture, and people have dressed up like witches in all the Halloweens I have seen in my life. Wiccans adopted the term in the 1950s and managed to distinguish it from other interpretations of the word, just like the word "magick" was adopted to differentiate their practice from "magic", which has been used in literature, fiction and pop culture for ages. I can... I remember those times, my first ever deeper dive into anything D&D was the first Neverwinter Nights game. It was an RPG with classes, feats and magic system unlike any of the action RPG I've played beforehand. It was amazing. After that, D20srd became my go to website for a long time to read up on so much lore and mechanics. Those were some good times...

Even though Wizards "owns" D&D they technicly don't. What I mean is the players & DMs own it by their own story telling. Thery can choose what character classes they want in their games NOT wizards. I love D&D. I have done since I started playing with AD&D back in the early 2000’s. Why are they bringing real world politics into a fantasy game where you can quite literally do whatever the hell you want? If you don’t want druids or witches in your world then straight up just don’t have them. If you want an entire game built around the idea of the horny witches trying to steal you and your party’s virginity then you can do that too! Your imagination is the limit. The rules exist to give you a baseline to run from that people agree on. Real world politics has no right being near my spicy tabletop sessions with my buddies

I'm a Christian. I have no issue in seeing "changed" Christian symbology used in Fantasy stories: vampire stories with crosses and holy water being used, or faith and pray being effective magics against demonic foes, etc. Same applies with me seeing witches and wizards and druids and shamans in fantasy stories and the like. I don't agree with "real world witchcraft" nor other pagan things in real life... but Fantasy stories (and sci-fi stories... ANY story) is NOT real life. I love Alannon the Druid in the Shannara series (books). I LOVE Harry Potter books and other media. If there's a vampire story? I'm all in. If those of us from the world's largest religion can either shrug our shoulders and tolerate our imagery being used - or be like me and enjoy a fanciful take on it - then everyone can. I have been Pagan for 35 years, I call myself a Witch and always have. I can say without a doubt that this is not offensive to me, it is silly to think this. When someone names a Deck something like "Dark Witch Deck", I just don't care. Being offended by anything is a choice, the one thing we can choose in most cases is our reactions to the things presented to us. People need to toughen the hell up.
My thought is that the people doing this for the paycheck... (They get paid to make a thing "less offensive" and are now scraping the bottom of the barrel for ideas on how to "make it less offensive" because if they don't well.... The job security isn't looking too good now that they're running out of ways to make the IP look "more inclusive" on paper.... They don't actually care if it offends people, they just want their paycheck from whoever is funding the Diversity and equity initiative.... or at least that's what it seems like from what I'm hearing online.... Its honestly kind of depressing to think that many a beloved IP has fallen under the control of people who are completely and totally apathetic towards the value/integrity of the IP and just see it as another resource to exploit for money until it's used up.... If they cared about the franchise they might realize that the IP is not a finite resource if cared for properly.... Sadly that seems to be a lot of the worlds problems, people just don't care about what they are doing or how it affects others....

@@shailali9386 The advice I would give is to look fully into it before deciding it is what you want to do. It is a very solitary path and very easy to start believing in insane things. Even in 2023, you will get odd looks and alot of jokes when people find out. For some reason people look at this type of belief system as different than any other mythology out there and it isn't. At the end of the day I am a firm believer in it is not so important that you believe in a particular God or set of Gods, only that you try to live your life the best you can, help others, and obey the universal religious tenet, thou shalt not be a dick. The Blue Witch subclass was pretty cool, getting hit by any sort of spell, the witch can identify and add it to their arsonal of spells iirc. (acted much like Blue Mage in FF games)

I identify as Wiccan/Pagan, aka a "witch", and our lifestyle is Druidic in nature, and I LOVE playing fantasy games, especially ones who have these classes. While their version of these classes are not realistic, that's the point! It's fantasy, not to be taken seriously, but as imagination and not based in reality. You can find a way to twist anything to mean what you want it to, but it's usually these people doing this that are the problem. Clearly this is an insight into the way these people really think. The saddest part is that more often than not, it is not the people themselves who are calling these things out, but the people NOT being "victimized". It's people who just need a cause, to feel they're doing good for someone else, who is NOT asking to be saved in the first place! Then they talk to us like we're too stupid to understand how we're being victimized and how we need them to save us. OMG, I was a witch for most of my life. Initiate of several covens, attended large festivals and did all the things. I don't think I ever knew ANYONE who would give a flip about this. I still know several who dress up as stereo-typical witches for Halloween/Samhain ( Samhain is Nov. 1 ).
I know several people whose practices fit the description of those of a witch or shaman in real life. Not that they necessarily identify with those titles. All of them are enlightened enough to be above caring about something so trivial. I suspect the only people who’d be offended by those terms in a game are the kids to pretend to be witches because it’s trendy on TikTok.

The only thing removing witches and druids would accomplish is to remove representation of people like me, and I think that's the point. If druids, witches, shamans, and orcs were only enemies that players fight against, I don't think they would be talking about removing them. Having druids, witches, shamans, and orcs as playable characters for them(or their children) to identify as alter-egos is a deal breaker for millions of Americans. If they do remove them as playable classes and race(orcs,) then the game won't be so offensive to the evangelical MAGA crowd in America. WoTC are hemorrhaging money as a result of their recent anti-consumer decisions and messaging around D&D, so they are in a mad scramble of desperation. Existing customers are leaving in droves, so they are trying to lure in a customer base whom they had previously alienated by refusing to cater to bigotry. I think that those people who you said can not be the target of the changes because they will never play the game are indeed the target. Not because they are likely customers, but because WoTC is desperate and making poor decisions in their panic. Most woke activists push for changing or reframing offensive content while still including it(sometimes in ridiculous ways.) Most far-right bigots push for removing offensive content altogether and pretending it doesn't exist. I acknowledge that overly woke activists and performative virtue signaling do exist and are often a big problem, but I really don't think that's what's going on in this case.

I don't disagree with you regarding a lot of what you said, but Shaman practices are amongst North American Indiginous people, and some refer to themselves as such. Less a point of contention, but more a point of education.
The word "shaman" is interesting. It comes from Siberia but expanded globally. It's a word to describe the wise, the spiritual leaders, the healers. They can be male or female, young or old, black or white. It's a word that unifies people and cultures. Can't have that, I suppose.
In regards to OSP, my father was born in 1931. A suggestion - I think you need to balance your audio a little better. As it is, the gain is too low and when a commercial pops up, the audio goes from quiet to blasting - same with your clips. I suggest increasing the gain and maybe throw a compressor on the mic channel to smooth things out.

Your voice is quiet compared to nearly every other video I watch and your cut of OSP was their normal volume which is at least 170% of yours. Makes it difficult to listen to as I either have to listen to your whispers or risk blowing out my ears.

Their is a difference between putting mythology of something into a setting/ themed thing and taking a term used to categorise an entire group of people and putting stuff onto it, for example if you were to create a subclass of villainous paladins and called them the catholic order of therizdun, that would probably ruffle a few feathers. Also dungeons and dragons has angels and demons in the setting they have custom lore and themes associated with them. The "witch" motif isnt really a fully fleshed out thing in the setting often being boiled down to a catch all term for hags/villainous female spellcasters, etc etc. I get why irl witches would be annoyed by this because historically speaking people used the term witch as a derogatory and exploitative term, usually to lobotomize women. I think a large portion of these convos of the woke agenda or whatever, can just be boiled down to rage baiting, usually cause its a lucrative field of content creation and entertainment.

There are people who are actively trying to get rid of anything related to christianity in these properties too... but they are ignored. Curious why that is?
All in all, anything can be offensive if you interpret it that way. Everything religious? Offensive due to misrepresentation. Races? Offensive because each one obviously represents a real world demographic in a bad light. Magic? Offensive because certain cultures and religious organizations think magic is evil and bad. Barbarians? Offensive because it was a term used to justify abuse and indian giving to native peoples.
The list can go on and on and on because all I have to do is make statements that sound even slightly reasonable based on any sort of information I can tie to the FICTIONAL CONCEPT.

Their problem isn't a lack of problems. Their problem is that contributing to solving real problems takes actual effort, and they don't actually want to do that. But they also conscious about the real problems, and can't feel like they're the heroes of their own story if they aren't doing anything to solve any of those problems in the world. So they create vague, unsolvable pseudoproblems that allow them to easily pretend that their virtue signaling is actually solving a problem that exists, so they can get that dopamine hit for feeling like they've done something good for minimal effort. When in reality all they've done is become a real problem that needs fixing.

Witches have always been present in fiction and pop culture, and people have dressed up like witches in all the Halloweens I have seen in my life. Wiccans adopted the term in the 1950s and managed to distinguish it from other interpretations of the word, just like the word "magick" was adopted to differentiate their practice from "magic", which has been used in literature, fiction and pop culture for ages. I can... I remember those times, my first ever deeper dive into anything D&D was the first Neverwinter Nights game. It was an RPG with classes, feats and magic system unlike any of the action RPG I've played beforehand. It was amazing.
After that, D20srd became my go to website for a long time to read up on so much lore and mechanics. Those were some good times...

I love D&D. I have done since I started playing with AD&D back in the early 2000’s. Why are they bringing real world politics into a fantasy game where you can quite literally do whatever the hell you want? If you don’t want druids or witches in your world then straight up just don’t have them. If you want an entire game built around the idea of the horny witches trying to steal you and your party’s virginity then you can do that too! Your imagination is the limit. The rules exist to give you a baseline to run from that people agree on. Real world politics has no right being near my spicy tabletop sessions with my buddies

I have no issue in seeing "changed" Christian symbology used in Fantasy stories: vampire stories with crosses and holy water being used, or faith and pray being effective magics against demonic foes, etc. Same applies with me seeing witches and wizards and druids and shamans in fantasy stories and the like. I don't agree with "real world witchcraft" nor other pagan things in real life... but Fantasy stories (and sci-fi stories... ANY story) is NOT real life.
I love Alannon the Druid in the Shannara series (books). I LOVE Harry Potter books and other media. If there's a vampire story? I'm all in.
If those of us from the world's largest religion can either shrug our shoulders and tolerate our imagery being used - or be like me and enjoy a fanciful take on it - then everyone can. There's no insult intended. It's just someone using their imagination and having some fun... and wanting other to have fun right along with them. I feel no insult. Why should anyone? Imitation is the highest form of flattery, after all.
I have been Pagan for 35 years, I call myself a Witch and always have. I can say without a doubt that this is not offensive to me, it is silly to think this. When someone names a Deck something like "Dark Witch Deck", I just don't care. Being offended by anything is a choice, the one thing we can choose in most cases is our reactions to the things presented to us. People need to toughen the hell up.
My thought is that the people doing this for the paycheck... (They get paid to make a thing "less offensive" and are now scraping the bottom of the barrel for ideas on how to "make it less offensive" because if they don't well.... The job security isn't looking too good now that they're running out of ways to make the IP look "more inclusive" on paper.... They don't actually care if it offends people, they just want their paycheck from whoever is funding the Diversity and equity initiative.... or at least that's what it seems like from what I'm hearing online....
Its honestly kind of depressing to think that many a beloved IP has fallen under the control of people who are completely and totally apathetic towards the value/integrity of the IP and just see it as another resource to exploit for money until it's used up.... If they cared about the franchise they might realize that the IP is not a finite resource if cared for properly.... Sadly that seems to be a lot of the worlds problems, people just don't care about what they are doing or how it affects others....

@@shailali9386 The advice I would give is to look fully into it before deciding it is what you want to do. It is a very solitary path and very easy to start believing in insane things. Even in 2023, you will get odd looks and alot of jokes when people find out. For some reason people look at this type of belief system as different than any other mythology out there and it isn't. At the end of the day I am a firm believer in it is not so important that you believe in a particular God or set of Gods, only that you try to live your life the best you can, help others, and obey the universal religious tenet, thou shalt not be a dick. Good luck on your journey and I hope whatever your destination you find peace and hope in your chosen beliefs.

Sorry for the caps, I was just pointing out that this offended nonsense is absolutely dribble as it was pointed out in King of the Hill during that episode all of the employees at Strickland were filing for disabilities until Hank had enough of it. @@piranhaplantX Theres actually a homebrew Witch class that I found a while ago. All the subclasses were all very unique and they acted much like a warlock. It was a lot of fun 🥰. The Blue Witch subclass was pretty cool, getting hit by any sort of spell, the witch can identify and add it to their arsonal of spells iirc. (acted much like Blue Mage in FF games)

I identify as Wiccan/Pagan, aka a "witch", and our lifestyle is Druidic in nature, and I LOVE playing fantasy games, especially ones who have these classes. While their version of these classes are not realistic, that's the point! It's fantasy, not to be taken seriously, but as imagination and not based in reality. You can find a way to twist anything to mean what you want it to, but it's usually these people doing this that are the problem. Clearly this is an insight into the way these people really think.
The saddest part is that more often than not, it is not the people themselves who are calling these things out, but the people NOT being "victimized". It's people who just need a cause, to feel they're doing good for someone else, who is NOT asking to be saved in the first place! Then they talk to us like we're too stupid to understand how we're being victimized and how we need them to save us. It's people trying to make themselves feel important and feel good about themselves, who in all honesty, we never asked to defend us.

OMG, I was a witch for most of my life. Initiate of several covens, attended large festivals and did all the things. I don't think I ever knew ANYONE who would give a flip about this. I still know several who dress up as stereo-typical witches for Halloween/Samhain ( Samhain is Nov. 1 ).
I know several people whose practices fit the description of those of a witch or shaman in real life. Not that they necessarily identify with those titles. All of them are enlightened enough to be above caring about something so trivial. I suspect the only people who’d be offended by those terms in a game are the kids to pretend to be witches because it’s trendy on TikTok.

The only thing removing witches and druids would accomplish is to remove representation of people like me, and I think that's the point. Their flimsy excuse about the MTG card creatures makes their real goal clear to me. If druids, witches, shamans, and orcs were only enemies that players fight against, I don't think they would be talking about removing them. Having druids, witches, shamans, and orcs as playable characters for them(or their children) to identify as alter-egos is a deal breaker for millions of Americans. If they do remove them as playable classes and race(orcs,) then the game won't be so offensive to the evangelical MAGA crowd in America. WoTC are hemorrhaging money as a result of their recent anti-consumer decisions and messaging around D&D, so they are in a mad scramble of desperation. Existing customers are leaving in droves, so they are trying to lure in a customer base whom they had previously alienated by refusing to cater to bigotry. I think that those people who you said can not be the target of the changes because they will never play the game are indeed the target. Not because they are likely customers, but because WoTC is desperate and making poor decisions in their panic. Most woke activists push for changing or reframing offensive content while still including it(sometimes in ridiculous ways.) Most far-right bigots push for removing offensive content altogether and pretending it doesn't exist. I acknowledge that overly woke activists and performative virtue signaling do exist and are often a big problem, but I really don't think that's what's going on in this case.
WotC has been crap for years. Paizo has leaned that way for a while, but not fully, though they did eliminate "race" as a term from Pathfinder 2e for... reasons.

The word "shaman" is interesting. It comes from Siberia but expanded globally. It's a word to describe the wise, the spiritual leaders, the healers. They can be male or female, young or old, black or white. It's a word that unifies people and cultures. Can't have that, I suppose.
In regards to OSP, my father was born in 1931. Growing up poor, in a ethnically jam-pack neighborhood in San Antonio; once he got to see King Kong in theaters years later he said it was nothing more than a popcorn flick.

I do think that assuming some racial coding is going on isn't fair unless you can find evidence with the writer. If it weren't for D&D I wouldn't even know what a druid was. It's because of this introduction into these terms that I became curious and learned respect for these cultures that inspired these classes, monsters and more in D&D. Trying to cater to people who aren't even your customers at the expense of people who actually are your customers really is a recipe for failure. Disney has already crapped all over the Star Wars legacy doing this to great expense of their bottom line as well as their reputation, is D&D next?

My favorite instance of this was listening to someone talk about how they killed the druids in BG3 because they were racist against the tieflings and called them thiefs and I'm sitting there on my own file talking to the third child in a row that tried to pickpocket me.
Also, there a game called Portal Knights out there that has Druid as a playable class.
Absolutely playing that now and using that class.
