But there are also quite long videos of Korean shows in there and some which don't have subtitles,... Jukjae: No. It’s like this: Later when I have already forgotten about a note and then find it by chance again, I sometimes think ‘Oh?’ and get a certain feeling/inspiration. So it’s not like I save how it was once like this and then like that. Also because my memory isn’t that good either..
There is also that kind of note: “I won’t be nice to you.” (cold attitude)

Jukjae: At dawn I’m rather very awake. My brain works really fast then, too.

Jukjae: Exactly. Because I am like that, the time when I am ‚drunk‘* could also be in the afternoon when the sun is brightly shining. (*probably referring to the late night/early morning sentiments)
2:40 What made you release a full album?
Jukjae: I kept creating music and also released some songs but it had been a long time since I had released a full album, so when I observed the overall flow now seemed like the right timing to release a full album.
When roughly half of the album was completed, I performed those songs in a small club and thought to myself ‘Am I doing well?’. Taking such time to do an interim evaluation was also really good. Out of various reason things seemed to flow extremely well.
3:13 Jukjae: The oldest (voice) recording included in this album is from April last year.

3:26 Jukjae: It‘s this recording of “사라질까 봐“ (Disappear). It’s a song included in this album mainly based on the piano. There was a really good piano at the rehearsal room of a performance venue. And as I was just playing a bit I thought ‚Oh that sounds nice‘ and directly recorded it. That recording turned into "사라질까 봐” (Disappear).
3:43 GQ Korea: Do you get inspiration from instruments?
Jukjae: Yes, of course there are many times where I get ideas from instruments. Just while playing around with them… This also came to me while I was warming up my fingers (🎵) This became the main riff of this album’s song “YOU”. While doing the sound check at a venue, I played this and though ‘that’s a good riff’ and saved it.
4:11 What’s this? (🎵 CUT) Oh this is not released yet. Oh what’s this recording called ‘oh this is good’? (🎵 lalala CUT) I can’t show you that either. One moment. Because it’s not released yet either.
4:23 GQ Korea: Do you have a system how you name your saved recordings?
Jukjae: Recording will be just named “new recording” when you save them. So I just change some to ‘You shouldn’t forget this’ or ‘this is good’, just like that. Look after ‘new recording’ x3 comes, ‘oooh this is good’ hahaha😂 … I just save them like that because it’s easy to find them again.
4:45 GQ Korea: Do lyrics also just come to your mind like melodies do?
Jukjae: No, lyrics are a different thing. I have to contemplate a lot about them and I also need a certain mood/feeling. Making songs seem to be work where you need to spend a lot of time thinking.
There are times when I suddenly get an idea for lyrics from what a friend said to me or at other times I start writing by selecting a specific word. Each time it’s different.
5:06 There is also this from last year, November 2nd. (🎵 Eardrums are gently melting)
In our company’s basement there is a piano. I just went there and played around and happened to play that, thought ‘oh, sounds good’, again and saved it.
5:33 GQ Korea: How did you come up with ‘너나 나나‘ (Same Same)‘s lyrics?
Jukjae: I just contacted Sam „I gonna release a full album, let‘s make a song together“. So we met without any preparations, played our guitars and first we came up with that melody. Nananana~ nananana~ But (then we thought): Nananana? Oh, neo na na na (you and I, nana). Hah, that’s how the lyrics were written.

Jukjae: I was in second grade of middle school. Did we play Metallica’s „Whiskey in the jar“? That was our band’s go-to-song.

TH-cam and Netflix. I watch ‘궁금한 이야기 Y‘ and ‚ 짧은 그것이 알고 싶다‘ on youtube these days. I also like cars a lot, so I watch 김한용(Kim Hanyong)’s MOCAR. Ah and Running Man, I watch Running Man!
7:04 If you created a new kind of content for youtube, what would that be?
Jukjae: I like comfortable stuff. Like calling in other artists/musicians and talking about this and that. Because now I’ve become more used to words related to “sessions”, but others* don’t know exactly what they do and rather than talking about it professionally/technically, I’d like to chit chat with others. Content in such a style... (*not sure whom he talks about here)
7:24 Which kind of music apps do you use?
Jukjae: I search and listen to music mainly on Spotify. On youtube I listen to playlists once in a while.

Jukjae: (Reading) Your favorite songs this year were: Tightrope, Fool for you, Sacrifice, Peaches, and Starboy.
It’s listed like this but oh, it’s unexpected!
GQ Korea: Do you archive your playlists?
Jukjae: No, I don’t. This year I was working on so much music that - it’s probably not just me - I did not really listen to any music in the car or at home. If you constantly listen to music while working all day, your ears become tired, too.
8:04 GQ Korea: Can you recommend any apps related to instruments?
Jukjae: There are some great ones! There is this guitar tuning app called 'iStroboSoft'. It’s an app made by the tuner company ‘Peterson’. Among the apps it’s the fastest and the most precise.
There is also the app called 'Sonic' with a ‚V‘ inside a circle. It’s an app which creates tone frequencies,* if you slowly raise it, there sometimes come out certain tones wherever you do that. I try to capture those tones inside the studio. That is really fun. (*not completely sure about this app and what it does)
8:42 GQ Korea: You’re the first to tell us such kind of things!
Jukjae: Oh really? It’s because I like persistent things by nature
There is also an app called ‚Reverb‘ where the most famous and best instruments in the world are traded. Rare items just pop up there, at cheap prices!
It’s listed in which condition the instruments are in and it makes it easy to find things not available in Korea.
