Doesn't hurt but I personally don't anymore unless it's something more hi end. Sometimes I will do a version of acclimating where I put a bit of tank water mixed in there as they temp. That's just what I do, not saying that's the right/wrong way.
@@DreamStateLivingTemp acclimating, then adding them after dumping the water in a net. It's a freshwater thing because you don't have to acclimate to salinity.

I've been floating popping and dropping fish and inverts for 10 years never had issues. Personal preference imo.

I had it years ago in a little pico reef. Tank was too small and not established enough, lasted a few months :/
