Hichamtube7 it’s called Eurovision for a reason. ‘Euro’ in Eurovision is shortened for Europevision or Europeanvision (depending on who you ask). If they were to invite non-European countries it would just be a regular singing contest. Having a different country in the contest once is fun. But Australia ,for example, shouldn’t be in the contest 4 years in a row.

    • @AlexanderPavel

It's not just Europe. It's countries who are part of the European Broadcasting Union. It's more of a cultural thing, which is why Australia is now competing in Eurovision.

    • @sato8875

People should really research Eurovision Song Contest before making comments about "non-European" countries taking part.
The Eurovision Song Contest is ran by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU for short). Each year all 56 countries that are classed as Active Members are sent invitations to take part. Its up to the broadcaster if they want to enter or not.
To be an Active Member a broadcaster must be a member of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). The second requirement is a part of the country needs to be what is known as the "European Broadcasting Area" (EBA) or the country needs to be a member of the Council of Europe.
Morocco joined the EBU in 1950 as a full Active Member because it meets the 2 main requirements: ITU member and part of the country is in the EBA.
All countries, with the exception of Australia, that take part in Eurovision and are typically considered "non-European" can take part because they have at least 1 broadcaster who is a full Active Member.
There are 5 other countries that can take part if they so chose because they are Active Members with the EBU. They are Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon and Libya.
In reality a broadcaster doesn't have to be based in Europe to be part of the EBU. Hence why there are Associate Members who are members of ITU but don't meet all the requirements for Active Membership. Like Australia and dare I say... United States.
Out of all the Associate Members, Australia has just as much right to take part than any other country that has participated in the Eurovision Song Contest. They have shown the Contest since 1983 and it is very popular there. Now do I think the EBU should invite the United States... nope because that is going overboard at that point.
I'm from the United States and I find this song beautiful. The message of the song is positive and I defiantly think it should have placed higher.

A remarkable effort, Samira Said would go on to become an Arab Pop queen despite finishing 2nd to last. I'll always wonder if Morocco's participation in 1980 was a one-off for the contest's 25th edition or as they say Israel weren't competing that year which I don't believe cause if so they would've returned next few occasions Israel were absent. I wouldn't mind seeing Morocco back in Eurovision but seems unlikely, don't want song this to be their forever only entry. Eurovision isn't just for Europe but also countries near the continent or who have deep historical/cultural European links.

For the Turks commenting how the Turkish jury didn't give Morocco any points. Apparently after the Eurovision ended, people called TRT about why they didn't grant Morocco a single point. Especially after they gave Turkey 12 points. So, it wasn't the people's fault, it was the stupid juries fault. If we had televoting back then, Morocco would've gotten a lot more points. Ironically, Turkey only made the top 10 twice when the ESC had juries in 22 years. And made the top 10, eight times in 15 years after televoting was introduced and even won one of those times.

In UK BBC seems to have totally forgotten what was the recipy for success in Eurovision and they only need to look their own eurovision history to find the answer. So yeah with great pleasure.
