Sandy has been around since the 80s and primarily sings pop and R&B. Her vocal range is incredible but it is her uncanny ability to express the lyrics that gets listeners hooked. Her expressions really gets you in the “feels.” I wouldn’t be surprised if women listeners between ages 30-50 are her biggest fans. Many of her works reflect the life experiences of this demographic. Great choice.
Guys, I'm glad that you dug deeper and saw who Dimash "lost" to. I did the same at one time, watched Sandy's performances that season. I did not see the entire 2017 season at The Singer, but what I saw in connection with Dimash convinces me that everyone on this show, from the contestants to the audience, who are also judges, without exception, treated him warmly and friendly. They gave him the nickname "Little Imported Brother". All of Dimash's rivals openly admired his talent and took care of him, including Sandy Lam. There was not the slightest negative towards him. Dimash was the youngest participant in the history of this show and is completely unfamiliar to the Chinese public. And the fact that he took second place, but gained millions of the most loyal fans in China and then around the world, thanks to this competition, this is his real victory. Therefore, Dimash always thanks The Singer and the Chinese audience. They opened it to the rest of the world. Sandy beat Dimash by only 0.18 points. I want to note that there were no weak participants on this show. If you find the time and desire, watch the performances of other members of the show that year (and other seasons too). You will be surprised at how talented, original and professional each of them is, with many years of successful career behind them. All of them are worthy of respect and admiration of the Dears for the fact that they treated and treat Dimash without envy and hostility. And most of them became good friends with Dimash. I am sad to read the comments of some "Dears" who write that Dimash was not given first place for some political or other reasons. I do not think so. Be that as it may, Dimash's second place on Singer does not matter to me. For me he is the best singer in my life. Thanks guys for this reaction!

I agree completely. After hearing Dimash for the first time, I watched the season of The Singer, and was very impressed by each contestant. I loved Teresa (sorry, I don't know how to spell her Chinese name), and her version of John Lennon's Imagine. She was also so cute and funny! There wasn't one performer on that show who failed to impress me, both with their talent and--as you pointed out--with their kindness towards one another. Thank you for this. I think Dimash is out of this world, but I watched the entire season of The Singer 2017 (with English subtitles), and all the competitors were phenomenal. I don't think a lot of Dimash fans realize how beloved Sandy Lam is in China. At one point the audience was chanting "Goddess! Goddess!" A lot of these people grew up listening to her and loving her. And I agree with you: it must really suck to win something and have all sorts of people talking about how you didn't deserve it :(
I don't really think someone of a legendary status like her would even care. A singer's success should not only be about how high he or she can go, which tbh, if she wanted she could've reached those notes Dimash is so highly praised for. Being one of the most beloved singers among Chinese speakers worldwide for decades, that's how she won in life.

Dimash had people crying also. I don’t think she’s got a better voice than Dimash. I kept waiting for something spectacular like Dimash does but it didn’t happen.
I felt that this competition was judged based on her popularity. Dimash is clearly the better singer with a much better range. Yes everyone treated him fairly and with warmth but it should have been judged by the singers range not popularity.
The one reason he lost its because he isn't Chinese and to prove it the next near they came with an apology and said that the competition from now on will only consider talent and nothing more and to cover it up they invited jessy j to the show in 2018 and gave her the win to prove that they will be ok with none Chinese singers And by the way it was justified why she won because she is double his age and already very famous in China so it would have been really humiliating for her to let a singer that no one knew about win the show so even dimash himself wasn't surprised or angry he already realized that its not who is a better singer its who is more fit for the win

To be honest, the 'perfect' songs that Dimash did were sung by him his whole life. He lacks musicality and proper interpretation of the scores in the otehr performances. I listened to several of Sandy Lams performances. This one is fantastic. With the Singer 2017 competition, I recall that rankings were not cumulative. Based solely on the final performances that determined the winner, I preferred Sandy Lam's. Make no mistake, however, I am a Dimash dear; and was sad and upset that Dimash didn't win.
Sandy Lam is goddess status, she is Chinese Mariah Carey (not in terms of skills, but popularity). She has been around for 20 years I think. Now imagine Dimash beats Mariah Carey in US competition singing in English, that would be super strange right? So they gave her the medal.

This is originally a song by A Mei, who appeared performing with Sandy in the duet final singing a different A Mei song. So that might have swayed voters. Nevertheless all the singers were good. She is huuugely popular in China, and she show is not only about talent, but also about popularity. One commenter once said that she is the mother hen of all female singers in China. And she does quality singing, let's at least acknowledge that.

To be honest, I cannot decide if I like "Daybreak" from Bastau more or not. The story is heartbreaking and I can remember the cablecar-accident from the News in 1999 (?). Dimash can sing like 4-8 voices combined and Sandy sings in one voice. Dimash can sing higher than Sandy even doing this female song. There is no comparison. Dimash would represent earth if the universe was competing
A lot of people in China complain about the lack of emotions and how sharp his higher register sounds. Another common complain about how monotone his performances were. I admit that Dimash is absolutely top of world class if we look at vocal range but Sandy is way more versatile and the Emotions in her songs are on another level.

Dimash was treated by the contestants with great honour and respect...unlike 2015 slavic contest where in which sleeping pills were placed in a bottle of water for Dimash...the jealousy was there...Dimash did win the contest ...manager said Dimash had to hold onto the mic stand...it did bring his score down but whatever it's Dimash he could handle it
She sounds very talented, but she's not superhuman like Dimash. It was in China and I think that's what tipped the balance in her favor. She has her fan base, but it won't explode internationally like Dimash has. Dimash should have won that competition.

DIMASH had a few bad outings during this competition. The Bruno Mars song he did was horrid

She is huuugely popular in China, and she show is not only about talent, but also about popularity. One commenter once said that she is the mother hen of all female singers in China. And she does quality singing, let's at least acknowledge that.
She has a beautiful voice but doesn't come close to Dimash. They made her winner out of respect for her and the competition not based on who was the best which clearly was Dimash. Look at all his amazing performances. Im sure he probably didn't even expect to win. The voting score was extremely close. Dimash brought many people to tears in so many of his performances. Love you guys. Your great reactors.

Guys stop it I know you want views but she win because she's Chinese by law Dimash was a wild card but after that they change the rules in the next season after Dimash won the popular vote and by the way Dimash and Sandy Lam are very good friends. She's a very respectful and famous singer in China.

Dimash sang one of the emotional song in this competition called "Daybreak" and that time he was sick but still he sang good and everybody were emotional. You can check later in his show he sang way better

To be honest, I cannot decide if I like "Daybreak" from Bastau more or not. The story is heartbreaking and I can remember the cablecar-accident from the News in 1999 (?). I was not young anymore than but sometimes I had to take a cable car in these years because my grandmother lived in the mountains. After that accident I was a bit scared, but not anymore:-) Greetings from Germany.

Dimash can sing like 4-8 voices combined and Sandy sings in one voice. Dimash can sing higher than Sandy even doing this female song. There is no comparison. Dimash would represent earth if the universe was competing
A lot of people in China complain about the lack of emotions and how sharp his higher register sounds. Another common complain about how monotone his performances were. I admit that Dimash is absolutely top of world class if we look at vocal range but Sandy is way more versatile and the Emotions in her songs are on another level.

Dimash was treated by the contestants with great honour and respect...unlike 2015 slavic contest where in which sleeping pills were placed in a bottle of water for Dimash...the jealousy was there...Dimash did win the contest ...manager said Dimash had to hold onto the mic stand...it did bring his score down but whatever it's Dimash he could handle it

She sounds very talented, but she's not superhuman like Dimash. It was in China and I think that's what tipped the balance in her favor. She has her fan base, but it won't explode internationally like Dimash has. Dimash should have won that competition.

She was good as compared to many regular female artists, but never as good as Dimash would be if he sang a whole song in his female voice. Dimash's vocal Abilities isn't just Good it is out of this World another Dimension Excellence, his varies voices are like instrumental sounds uncommonly known to men, they shine with colors and brilliance like the many faucets of diamonds! He should not be compared with other artists! And did Win ultimately! because he is even more popular now than everyone in that show with soo much more opportunities than they could have given him!
Dimask sings much better, I don't know what kind of contest it was, maybe it wasn't the one that sang the best and she was better known to the judges, but the world has shown that the best singer in the world is DIMASK.

She is a wonderful singer, but clearly Dimash should have won. I guess it should have been awful to her knowing that. She was clearly more popular than Dimash. But this was a talent show, not only a popularity one.

Sandy Lam isn't even CLOSE to as good as Dimash. WHO IS ANYWAY? 😲 But because SHE is Chinese and Dimash isn't, there was no way the show's producers were going to allow him to win! It was racist and political. It created so much controversy that the following year, the successful UK artist, Jessi J was the winner. Sandy Lam is a successful CHINESE artist, unknown in most other parts of the world. Dimash is getting International attention! 😃 👍

I’m sorry, she not better than Dimash . Not even close in my opinion. Don’t get me wrong, she has a pretty voice but thats it. Dimash to me is spectacular with his voice and charisma. To me personally Dimash won this competition and all the contestants knew it too!

Sandy Lem is from China and is a great Singer I love Dimash and consider what country they are performing the winner had to be from China. She is 51 during this contest and is famous and loved there. Dimash had so much coverage and become famous for this contest since he was outsider they made an exception for as no one else has been invited before.

I don't see or hear anything special about her voice.. she is just one of many.. while Dimash is unique.

Sandy was not bad, not great.... Definitely not better than Dimash. So far, average... I've heard her style/type of vocals and vocal range a lot. Definitely not as impressive as Dimash! Ain't no way! EVER... NO ONE...
