Dikembe Mutombo had an impact on how we see, recognize, and think of "defensive players" (or "defense first" players). He was not alone, his coach, John Thompson, Hakeem Olajuwon and many others have helped shine the light on players that specialize in or provide "defense first" - But Dikembe used the acknowledgement he received to show that scary looking big men guarding the paint and the rim can be fun and funny humans in their own special way. Dikembe had a lovely personality as tall as his height, and he used it bring others joy and smiles. His actions to grow Basketball and enjoyment of the sport throughout Africa and the world will be sorely missed by many.
    r. i. p. Dikembe Mutombo Mpolondo Mukamba Jean-Jacques Wamutombo, a man with a bigger heart than his name and his 7' ft. 2" in. height (2.18 m in metric units). May his memory be a blessing to all the world

Great player and sense of humor, but he was the example of what giving back is all about!!!
