Great video Dr Moss. I wrote a book about my journey….Too Much Luggage by Quinn Tudor, my pseudonym. I did anesthesia school as a single parent in another state at age 40. Many trials (life!) during school, but by the grace of God, I made it. Been practicing 45 years as RN and 23 as a CRNA and did my DNP at 56. Now 66 and just doing GI as 1099 to finance my world travel!! Great job and I wish you every success in this most awesome career! CRNAs rock!!!
Currently in an LPN to RN bridge program, 24 years old. I appreciate your content , because in early mornings and late nights it gets tough. Watching things like this keep me going.
Spent four years as a nurse and the toxic environment in PICU caused me to leave the profession. Currently a general dentist looking to match for oral surgery residency in 2025. I appreciate the quote you stated with at the beginning- I’ll arrive where I need to be right on time.
Thank you for sharing your resilience to accomplish your goal. That further motivate me to read my Bible more and to embrace preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ/ salvation and pursuing my MSN.
I’m in the same boat and it’s been so hard to not just quit ICU nursing after EMS. Did an externship in cardiac surgical icu during nursing school and hated nearly everything about it. Had a life crisis and decided to go to ED. Loved EM for about a year and then it became extremely repetitive and I was the go to trauma guy because I had the prior paramedic experience. I began training new grads and so forth at just a year in. I left reinvigorated for CRNA and became an ICU nurse and am 4 months in with just a quick 5 week orientation and while I enjoy the complexity that medics and other nurses fail to grasp that we deal with daily, the role of a bedside floor nurse even in critical care is absolutely revolting to me. I force myself to go work every single morning to get berated by NPs and Docs for not being available for a bronch when they just rushed me off to CT scan 5 min prior for another patient. To constantly solve all problems yet be disrespected and spit on. To see my paychecks and realize I’d rather not even make money if this is what I have to do. To be tripled with insulin drips, trips, and combative patients maxed out on tons of sedation.. I’d rather be homeless than do this shit. I have 8 more months to qualify to apply to CRNA school. I’m barely hanging in there and come home more trashed from the acuity and business than I was in the critical access ED I was working in. We have a few new grads on our icu unit and they want to be CRNAs and they don’t know shit. Some were former EMTs not paramedics, but even the medics unless they worked as Ed techs don’t understand Intra hospital medicine because prehospital is entirely different. It was hard transitioning for me because I was used to being confident and a shot caller and now I’m trying not to offend a physician or NP with my posture being too large and in charge. Like I said lol wish me luck riding this out. I do agree that fire kitchen teaches you how to work with anyone but there’s a lot of people “above me” who need what also happens at the fire kitchen when you’re out of line.
Hey man I enjoyed your video and your encouraging words. I also did fire and ems. Been a paramedic 16years, been flying 7 years as paramedic and then nurse. Been a nurse almost 2 years. Been working in a ICU for about a year and half. I applied for CRNA school for the first time back in October with no luck getting in. Have you got any suggestions or tips?

I recently left the OR after 9 years to pursue my dream of being a CRNA. It’s been quite a transition..but I’m not turning back!
