    Sam, thank you for that recommendation. I typically M1 who likes ambient outdoor noise, I live out in the country so this time of year there is nothing better then falling asleep to the sounds of frogs and toads, the flight of woodcock and the occasional owl. I also appreciate the pre-dawn chorus in the morning. Nothing better than gradually waking up to that. All of that said there are times when I do wish I had some form of sensory deprivation. One of the things that I struggle with the most is purging my mind of random thoughts. For that I use the digital voice recorder on my phone to express my thoughts and help remove them from my mind. I also tend to do mindfulness exercises or Focus breathing prior to bedtime

    I am one of those people who can not sleep in complete silence. I am always listening to the audio described versions of Chicago med or PD. When you were talking about the sleep machines, you were thinking of a loop, not a pattern.

    I’ve always listened to audiobooks to go to sleep, and when I got the sweatband type version of this was a GAME CHANGER! so much more comfortable than ear buds!

    Been using them for years. Bluetooth has made them so much better... Looking back I'm surprised the ones with the cords didn't strangle me in the night.
    I actually prefer the ones that are more of a headband than an eye mask. Think they sleep cooler and if you need to get up you don't need to take them off... I keep my bedroom really dark though.

    Hi Sam.
    Derek did a video a while back on the sleep phones and they are similar to what you are talking about in this video. Of course I haven’t tried it yet, but Derek says they are a pretty good product also. So glad that you were able to find a product that helps you to go to sleep at night.

    Thanks for sharing Sam. You described my issues with falling asleep perfectly. I sleep with a fan on 365 days a year, cold or not, because otherwise I can not fall asleep. Hotel stays are the worst. Cant easily drag a fan along, but it seems the AC unit in the hotels always have a rattle or vibration that drives me crazy and keeps me awake for hours. I am going to order one of these and give it a try. I think it could be a game changer.

      Lol, I know exactly what you mean Nathan! When I travel, I take a small portable fan that plugs in via USB. It helps to drowned out the hotel noises like elevators. For some reason, they always seem to put me in a room right next to the elevator, lol!

    I have a pair like that and I love it. I def can’t sleep if I hear constant sounds and I love it blocks out the light. I’m extremely light sensitive so now my hubby doesn’t wake me up when he gets ready for work in the morning. I now can’t sleep without it haha. I love listening to true crime shows on TH-cam.

    Being able to pick out patterns in looped audio drives me crazy. Sometimes I will listen to thunderstorm sounds when I am falling asleep, and once I hear a pattern in the rain or thunder, I can't unhear it and I have to find another app/video to listen to.

    Hey Sam. I have had mine for about a week now and they are great. Surprisingly my face does not heat up at night with them on. Love the fact that I can listen to my book while the wife listens to the radio. Also drowns out her and my guide dog’s snoring. LOL. Had to buy them in Canada so could not contribute to the show.

    Been using similar ones for about 4 years now. I'm actually on my third pair. The batteries don't last all that long before they only last for less than an hour after they're charged. A pain but they're not pricey so I deal

      look for when your computer annouces "the blind life' icon, before the merchandise it will say "show more". let me know if I helped you. I dont know if Jaws reacts the same as zoomtext.That would work on a desktop. If you are navigating by phone it could be different. I am not used to apple products.My android says " browse store"See if that helps.if not Sam will help. he helped me with no jab cane.

      Sorry about that. The link is in the video description for sure. I am actually traveling right now but when I return home to my computer, I’ll copy the link and see if I can post it in a reply to this comment.

      @@theblindlife so I found the link and ordered one. It will be here April 11th and I can't wait. And you didn't do anything wrong. I didn't even know there were descriptions for videos. So now I know where to find those descriptions should I need more information in the future. You've been a great help to me. Thanks so much for what you do. 🦼🦯🔍

      @@teresahopemiller1008 thanks so much for reaching out. I wasn't aware that they're even were descriptions for TH-cam videos. But now I know! So that's a good thing. And they used the link to order one of these for myself. I have the same problems with sleeping that he described. Hopefully this will help. What is a no jab ? Are you referring to the canes with a rollerball on the end? Because I wore mine out and I can't seem to find them. I'm always jabbing my cane onto a crack in the sidewalk. Or a rock in the grass.. thanks again for reaching out and being willing to help. We are all here on this planet to help each other.

    How well would this work for blocking out snoring? I was traveling recently and ear plugs were hard to keep in. I eventually tried earbuds with white noise and that helped but they weren't very comfortable. I'd be worried that these wouldn't block out noise well since they aren't in-ear.

    • @theblindlife
      @theblindlife  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      They don’t really block out they sound around you, they more just muffle them. So if the snoring is pretty loud, you’ll probably still hear it.

    Honey I can hear a squirrel fart from a block away. And probably smell it too. And I also have a tendency to pick out the patterns on my sleep machine or when I listen to binaural beats. I'm going to order one of these right now I'm really looking forward to getting here. Thanks for the review. This is exactly what I needed.

    Hi, Sam I hope you are well in these strange difficult times. I have ideas for you too. I am a insomniac. I use cbd gummies for sleep. If you live in a state where there is a dispensary that you can get them. They do sell without THC . It has melatonin in it as well which is natural. Yes the white noise machines are a Godsend. I also find Hypnotic Meditation for sleep there is all kinds with music. I enjoy the rain ones and with kittens purring . Calming my anxiety. The tibetian bowls are too stimulous but sound nice in the daytime. There is all types of music from India or elsewhere. Celtic is nice. I am Irish and German so I like the Celtic. Check out different ones. You tube is tops for these too. I am in my last class before finishing my Bachelor degree.Say Hi to the family. I bought the Blind lives matter Tee shirt.Low vision can be challenging my mind races of what the to do list or what bothers me so journalling helps . A tape recorder helps for that. Cats purring/ Rain/ Thunder are the best combo. they do have sounds of fans and other unique sounds.

    Does anyone hear their own heartbeat when trying to fall asleep? I never needed a baby monitor as I could hear my baby breathing a room away!! I am now using a CPAP and I must have foam earplugs in or noise canceling headphones. Been very sensitive my whole life!

    Is your hearing tuned in so much because of your sight loss?

    • @theblindlife
      @theblindlife  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, my hearing isn’t any better because of my vision loss, I’m just more aware of it. I gather more information through audio than average people, that’s why it’s hard to tune it out, especially at night.
