I know this is about Marley and she is doing really well. But Lambo's performance and behavior is just damned impressive. And he is only 3? What a nice, nice horse. He is a walking testament to your training methods.

Incredible! What a master horseman! Training the 3 year old he's on, to turn on the forehand, crossing over, side passing, while dealing with the reactions of a very defensive mare mustang! Cool, calm & confident the whole time. Bravo!
Wow guys can I just say how wonderful you both are. That was nail biting, edge of seat to watch. Well done Nate for you sheer calmness and gentle approach xxx
That wild mustang is a survivor! Don´t take away that spirit from her! Nate is not doing that, he meets her in her behavior. Great job! Even if it could be a dangerous situation, he doesn´t get mad at her, doesn´t try to dominate her. He is trying to get her to understand that he is her friend. Very good training!
That was pretty impressive for a 3 year old!!! I've been teaching my miniature horse to pony along with us and trust me, there just isn't enough hands for everything! Well done everyone!
LOVE, LOVE, LOVED this video!! Nate made it look too easy lol. Poor Lambo! He was so willing, compliant and responsive. He was wonderful. He deserves an extra scoop of oats!
Great video! Thank you for sharing, Nate & Ryan. You two are a wonderfully complementary to each other in calm, respectful and intuitive training. So nice to see.
She’s definitely got opinions of other horses. I’m glad Marley is in capable hands-she’s not an easy gal but having great trainers gives her the opportunity to become a good partner!
Great to see how good Lambo is working. He's not bothered and that's a testament to how you've done some great work with him. The mare is one of those horses who takes a long time to trust the human. Gotta be super careful because she has a strong fight instinct and you sure don't want that to get fully exposed. I think once she comes around and let's down fully you'll have a solid horse. Just one of those that's not easy or a snap to train. Thanks for putting these sessions out there for us to enjoy!
What an amazing job he did with those two! Handling the horse you’re riding is takes a lot of attention, but to handle Lambeau and working Marley- amazing! I love Mr. Eicher’s calm demeanor. Everyone in this video deserves a gold star ⭐️ 👏🏻
@@libbydormouse318 errrrrr most herd animals are matriarch led. Deer elephants horses etc etc. it’s easier to shoot a stag than a hind for very obvious reasons. The females are ultra switched on. This mare is defensive but willing to boss. She will be amazing once she’s on side with her human.

Someone as experienced as either Nate or Ryan makes this look so easy! And it’s not! She is swishing her tail with energy even without pinning her ears. I noted that Lambo wasn’t swishing his much at all so it wasn’t flies. It is anxiety or irritation. Both Lambo and the mare are gorgeous horses.
Thank you for sharing this process 👍 Many years ago I had an ASH mare so like this girl in attitude. She was started by "traditional" methods at 5yr old. And I was a green (but determined) rider. This knowledge would've been gold to young me, and it sure is now! That little horse @ 14.2h, taught me everything on steroids! Even in a crisis she retained perfect light control, but poor mare was close to crisis often due to me, my lack of understanding, unreal expectations and lack of community back in the day. Did I say thank you? 👍🌻
First off, beautiful job with Lambo! 💞 Second, really interesting to watch your mustang with another horse and handler. So happy to see her coming along so nicely and relaxing by the end. She definitely has a lot of confidence and you've allowed her to keep that, and to see him respecting her boundaries yet still pushing a little. Interesting that her tail never stopped moving yet Lambo was still, it wasn't flies. Subbing to Eicher Ranch!
Excellent!! Very impressive how you have Lambo Ryan and Nate on his horsemanship with two new horses to him. Learned a lot just on how to really watch my horses indicators and applying and releasing pressure. 😊👍
Wow, I was tense the whole time. Well done. Nate was awesome. Very good experience for her. Good to know how to nip this behavior in the bud. Thanks for sharing.
a lot of them are captured as foals and kept in holding for years before being adopted. i’d bet she’s been in holding for a long time, the horses fight a lot there and have limited space and resources. the wild ones should be well socialized.. they’d get kicked out of their band for having bad manners
As soon as the other horse smelled her flank, she gets an attitude....Interesting! I've not seen such behavior.😮 Thk you for sharing this and teaching us about this! So good!!!!
A gelding smelling a mares flank is mating behaviour to her, because she doesn't know he's a gelding not a stallion. Mares can be very cranky if they don't want to mate
Nate is so chill! He said it doesn’t seem like he's doing a lot, but every movement he made in union with Lambeau(Lambo?) had an impact on Marley. Ryan, Lambo really is a reflection of your stellar training. Marley may not be easy, but after all she's a feral gal. You being there with her from her arrival was impressive. From photographing the Kiger and Murderer's Creek mustangs, wild(feral) mustangs bite each other more in communication than any other horses I've seen. Seeing Lambo and Marley together, you definitely have a type Ryan! 😁
Lambo is a beautiful and respectful horse. Fantastic job Ryan. You are doing a great job on your mustang. Nate is excellent also. I’ve subscribed to his channel.
I've always had geldings because, well, mares are mares. It is so hard to plan to go to a show and on the day of the show have the mare in heat, peeing and winking and squealing. If you have a solution for that behavior, please share.
Progesterone, progesterone + estradiol, or oxytocin are hormonal options to control heat cycles. I’d rather use supplements to calm the mood and any tenderness but things like vervain are prohibited by the FEI. I don’t use hormonal options myself, but I’m just an AA who does lower-level dressage. I likely would if I were competing at higher levels.
My horse bit me for the first time this week. She has never showed any aggressive behavior towards me since I have owned her, (around a year), I mean never pinned her ears at me even, not for any reason. I was going to clean her udders (which I do pretty regularly, she enjoys being rubbed here normally), I just barely touched them and she whipped around and got me right on the butt, It turned black and blue by the end of the day I haven't been able to sit right all week. I was in so much shock that it happened, I think my feelings were more hurt than my butt, she hasn't been 100% herself lately after an allergic reaction which resulted in some edema on her belly, I have been doing light body work to work the fluid out and I can tell it is uncomfortable for her so I limit the sessions to keep her as comfortable as possible. She is not outright aggressive when I do this just swishes her tail and occasionally moves away and I can tell by her face it is not fun for her. She has been on the mend overall but that one instance really knocked down my trust for her with my back turned, and was honestly quite a confidence knock. Has anyone experienced something similar? How did you recover from this with your horse? I did not correct her when she bit me because I took it as a pain response, I did move her away when it happened but it had to have been 10 seconds or so after, I was in a lot of pain. she left for about 30 seconds then came back wanting attention and seemed to be saying "sorry".
LAMBO WAS AWESOME, & PROBABLY THOUGHT "I DON'T GET PAID ENOUGH FOR THIS " 😂 THAT TAIL SWATTING & POSTURE, SOMETHING WENT ON WITH THAT HORSES PAST FOR SURE. GROUND WORK TO CHANGE OPINIONS IS THE KEY!!! 👐CEMT 🐎
I feel sorry for Lambo having to deal with her. Where's your older horses you ride? He is a good boy. If you noticed which I'm sure you did, the mare is always wringing her tail but he is not. You have definitely convinced me to never get a mustang. Had a friend that had one she trained but he was dangerous around other people and she had to get rid of him because he was just not trustworthy around anyone but her. Good luck with this one Ryan I think she's gonna take a while longer. Stay safe guys.
This isn't exclusively a mustang issue. I got my cow bred AQHA gelding as a coming 2 year old and never thought I'd have any such worry with him. Within weeks he decided he was herd boss and then challenged me a couple of times, approaching high headed with ears penned. The fix for that was some old school, rigorous workouts in the round pen. (This old school practice would certainly put me in the dog house with modern trainers, but arguments against things that have worked for me and perhaps saved a horse make me smirk.😋) From that point on, he was always as gentle as an old dog with me, but uncannily possessive and protective around others. It's an inconvenient character flaw, but because of the way he is with me I could never part with him. He's retired now and we're going on 25 years of memories.
This has nothing to do with being a mustang, this is just normal horse behavior. Mustangs have different personalities just like every other horse out there. I've had Arabians way worse than this lmao
Lambo is a keeper, the way he handled that much older, dominant, wild drama queen. I still recon she'd make a good ranch horse once broke and seasoned. If y'all could stop her biting the cows?
First, Lambo is an absolute legend! I felt like Marley was a perfect example of "horses are going to horse." I have no doubt that this extremely intelligent survivor has had a long history of bossing other horses around- maybe even foals. How dare this young GELDING try to make her yield space? It was handled so beautifully, but I'm not at all surprised about her level of defensiveness being much greater with another horse vs a human. She's been controlling other horses with little more than eye contact and subtle body language, and when it didn't work, she went bigger. Really nice to see her let down and relax. Fantastic work.

LAMBO!!! I wanted to jump in and save him. 😂😂😂. He is amazing for a 3 year old. Great ponying work - yes, lots going on and masterful by Nate!
Might have a boss mare here! Yee haw
mares arent supposed to lead
@@libbydormouse318you might want to look into wild herd dynamics. Alpha mares are a thing, and their role is similar to an elephant herd’s matriarch.

Just a question about ponying another horse, wouldn't she have her interest more on what Lambo was doing rather than what the human was doing?
That was an amazing session. Lambo is great!
When you think of the brutal lives mares live in the wild it's not surprising she's defensive around another horse.
That mare isn't the first one Ryan has had with a big scar on her backside.
I thought I was seeing twins then. Lol she certainly is marerish. Good job Ryan has her xxx

You're driving her with the other horse and she doesn't understand it's the rider.
she is starting to really relax then he goes nuts lmao. I think she needs a lot more association and to get out around everything, the fact you don't have her with other horses is a problem horses need horses, and having her alone for so long without other horses has to be affecting her mentally. Anybody else take a deep breath when the horse licked and chewed? 😂
I’ve noticed that her tail is always swishing around doesn’t that mean she’s agitated?

I notice Lambo has his head down while hes backing up there on that one stint , all the way from one end to the other of the corral , what is Lambo thinking at that point , hes handling very well mannered , beautiful horses .
Would a mare mustang beside a gelding have an influence with her aggression if she was not in heat?
Mustangs want to rule! Good shes showing this so it can be taken care of or it could be an ugly habit.
Her tail was saying everything
