    Richard should be proud in his smithing skills. It was a design fault that let him down in the end but that was a strong and deadly weapon. The work was correct 100% but the design wasn’t in point. Can still produce quality though.

      @@jfc3552 That's what I thaught too. The jury not having taken this in consideration surprises mee, because I remind a competitor being disqualified because of that. Even if the forged kpinga wasn't in the eyes of the jury the best for them, the design cut is easier to produce. One can design and instinctively proportion and balance it by eyeballing and then do the cutting. The forged one, he had to let in some way the metal guide him and follow the limits of stress by stretch zones, bendings and crush zones. Considering the fact that it should be forged because of the title and at least an other competitor was disqualified or heavily questioned about it, I would declare Mr Richard as the winner.
      In the end, both did great jobs and overall the winners kpinga looks really balanced.
      I going to do some research, 'cause I'm a little too curious how this kpinga was in fact really produced with less tools and grinding belts. ;`) but nevertheless very interesting show!!! :)))

      @marhawkman303 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think that's part of why the judges talk about their process. This process of continual feedback about flaws, no matter how seemingly minor lets the contestants know where they stand. Ultimately, in a contest of skill, the winner should only be a surprise if the contestants are so evenly matched the deciding factor is nearly invisible. Like one of these the only real difference in function... was one blade bent a tiny bit so that it wasn't perfectly true after getting used to chop through a fake skull in a ballistic dummy. But, there can be only one. Any edge, no matter how minor, can make the difference.

    You know, I'm sure these competitors have watched "Forged in Fire" on multiple occasions, and as such, they know what to expect in they made it this far. You would think that common sense would tell them "Before" they compete, to upgrade both their forge and their quench, so that if they did have to make something longer or wider, they would be ready for anything. 🤔

    • @SuperSaiyanX-0014
      @SuperSaiyanX-0014 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm only speaking from a few shows that I've watched. I've seen many people slightly alter their forge on the spot. Also, making it that far, I would only assume that I may have a chance of making a long sword. Preparing a long quench shouldn't be that expensive.

    • @matthewdaltrey4676
      @matthewdaltrey4676 4 ปีที่แล้ว
