    The NAD M33 is fantactic with two subs integrated via Dirac Live. You take off a bit in the top with the Dirac filter and subs are perfectly integrated. I have made different Dirac filters for turntable input, CD/SACD and streaming. You switch between the Dirac filters with the app and use the app to turn the subs on and off depending on how much base you want for the recording you play now. Works perfect!

    I agree with you guys, that the M33 can make guitar riffs sound edgy and thin. I borrowed the M33 for a week and tried it with my Dynaudio Contour 3.4 LEs which tend to have a laid back mid-range so the M33 made it worse and the electric guitars just had no power. Otherwise it was a very cool amp, but does not bring the right tonality for Dynaudio. My Hegel H160 sounded much more neutral. Now I changed my speakers to Dynaudio Heritage Special and the mids sound juicy and just right. Just play some Metallica, Megadeth or Opeth and you’ll hear if the guitars sound right. Now I’m looking for a more powerful amp and looking into this Technics model so thanks a lot for the review!

    I don't want the amp to take the edge off of the recording as that's the speakers job imo.

  • @obscurazone
    @obscurazone 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    The whole point of room correction, is to adjust the sound back to the "perfect" central seating position triangle, balancing the sound back into the room. It's no wonder the soundstage appears wider without it on - the sound is just being thrown out there irrespective of room. It is a shame you didn't talk about frequency response with room correction on, that is the whole point of it - a (hopeful) tighter and more controlled bass response, better separation in mids/highs.

    The Technics SU-R1000 is a collectible - think of it as a LaFerrari. The NAD M33 is like a Porsche or McLaren 720. If you're in the market for a NAD M33 and can afford the SU-R1000, you're buying the SU-R1000 while they are still making it. I would be more curious to compare the SU-G700 to the NAD M33.

    This was great, very comprehensive and thank you 🙏🏼 Would be interesting to compare the Technics with others more similarly priced/marketed integrateds (per se) like the newer Accuphase and Luxman amps. Don’t know why I even wonder? Maybe someday I’ll make the cash in time to enjoy such products while my hearing is still capable!

    Just saw this. I had the M33 in the house for about three months and sold it. I currently have the Technics g700m2 in house (which is less $$ than the M33) and it's not that close. The Technics is a much more engaging listen, and I'm using a couple of pairs of $15-$20K speakers and comparing it to some high end separates.

    Whats up guys, another great review: The missing link here is vinyl playback: Technics has a unique take on that to match their turntables: I think this would be a great sway in someones decision their spend the SpareChange on the Technics. As you you, I am not a vinyl guy, but you need to add a turntable to your review mix to really make this review more accurate.

    • @jaaron788
      @jaaron788 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I thought the same thing. They left out one of the biggest values of the Technics. If you don’t take about the vinyl play, that would cost you another 5000 to match, you’re not giving a true representation of value. Tech ices is a better value if you’re into vinyl.

    It would be nice to see some measurements. This will show how the amps behave when the load increases. The Technics may stay cleaner when the speaker load drops to 4 ohms and below. Whereas the NAD, distortion rises when the load gets difficult.
    Great review. 👍

  • @revelationsoundstudio
    @revelationsoundstudio 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The NAD is Class D which is known for a edgy top end. The Technics is easier on your ears. The phono section on it is incredible and one of the best out there. The room correction on the NAD is more focused on 400hz and below. It typically tilts the low end to boost. Depending on how well you did the room correction will affect how the sound.
    I recently heard the Technics and it was one of the best receiver I ever heard. The DAC on the Technics is a little better too.

    • @therealshanelee
      @therealshanelee  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I take it you haven’t heard the NAD and just making a general statement about class D amps. And I’m sure you haven’t heard both side by side.

    • @revelationsoundstudio
      @revelationsoundstudio 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @SpareChange I have heard the NAD and almost bought it. But the edgy top end is due to distortion and filtering is used by companies to reduce it. I have not heard them side by side but I know the character of both. The digital amp design Technics came out with is very impressive

  • @realhi-fihelplarry8047
    @realhi-fihelplarry8047 ปีที่แล้ว

    Once you start using a AN-E speaker then you will hear 5x more difference between the 2 amps.
    I recently heard the su-r1000 on a AN-E speaker, and it was one of the best combinations I have ever heard. It makes the m33 sound digital/weak, once you get up to a AN-E spe/he model.
    Also the source needs to be 10x better to truly understand that the Technics amp is really a 25k USD amp in disguise from around 6 years ago.

  • @ebarbie5016
    @ebarbie5016 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    The NAD is full of bugs. Try to enable subwoofers and listen to the song "waste" by Rhye and you'll notice a clipping distortion when subwoofers are enabled. Also, you can't adjust the subwoofer levels using the M33. I've had it and returned it after a couple of days...

    But, at $9500, one could argue the Technics is way underspecced. At that price point, we are talking about Gryphon Diablo 300 level type amp. And as the name suggests the Gryphon has 300W into 8 ohms and 600W into 4 ohms, is not even close. Plus, it sounds good too.
