Shonda is right! The world of television should look like the real world and it should have looked that way 40 years ago. Thank you Shonda for shifting TV into modern times.

Let me preface this by saying that I am not a particular fan of Scott Foley's Jake character in Scandal but I did love his portrayal of Henry character on Grey's and in the few episodes of Felicity when I did watch. That being said, whether or not he is kissing up to Shonda or offering flattery as some comments suggest, does not take away from the fact of what Shonda has accomplished in her relatively young life. It always amazes me that we can't see past our noses to the uniqueness of this woman and to give her her props and leave it at that. I cannot say that I am in love with everything she does and every thing she says. As a matter of fact, I take strict objections with some of them BUT come on, the ongoing hits that I see here and elsewhere on her as woman, her capabilities to love, that she is mean-spirited etc., that seem to want to be aimed at diminishing her light is really disappointing. By all means, critique the story line, discuss, come up with theories, give your preferences...that is all part of your right as viewer/being part of a fandom (an activity I enjoy thoroughly). However, to make claims about the showrunner herself based on what you may read or hear is not a right that belongs to viewers. That's overstepping. That's wrong. I am grateful that she exists and that my television viewing is so much more relevant and relatable than it was 6 years ago. I know that in a perfect world, a comment like this would be met with universal agreement but alas, I expect someone to come and want to give me a read. Nevertheless, I felt it had to be said.

Scott Foley as Jake was an amazing character. He added a dimension of good looks and danger.

Shonda strikes me as the type of boss who is extremely intimidating and who although the average person would probably gripe about and/ or hate, I would totally and proudly gladiate for. She's intelligent as they come so business and the storylines are her top priorities, she accepts nothing less than absolute perfection, total preparation at all times is a non-negotiable, extremely long hours are a given, and a long list of other rules and expectations to adhere to. But, within all of that is a gentle person who deeply cares about everyone on her team, is likely working ten times harder than everyone else, has to endure with how lonely it is at the top, etc. I occasionally see comments from people being rather displeased with Kerry Washington's responses when asked what she wanted to happen with Olitz, and her replies always being something along the lines of..."Well you know, I just really want what Shonda wants" or "Whatever makes Shonda happy," etc. Some viewers had hoped for more depth within those answers (myself included 😭), but after watching this and a few other clips of Shonda, I think that Kerry has such an understanding and holds such esteem and respect for Shonda that those responses actually reflect her true sentiments. They are literally perfect although most fans couldn't grasp it, including myself as much as I hate to admit it.
Anyway, I knew Shonda was phenomenal and was aware of her work, but what I didn't realize is the history that was made with the creation of Kerry Washington's role in Scandal. Shonda is beyond amazing, and I love that inclusivity is something that she values. I would so go over a cliff for her and Kerry. ❤
