The mosque in the beginning of the video is marvelous and very unique, unlike other typical mosques. Love it. Like the comments about matrilineality and the proud of the people of Mentawai. They remind me that Indonesia is big with so many diverse cultures. I hope someday Indonesia in general will have enough confidence to let shine our local cultures instead of being dominated by Arabic culture / religion and getting them die slowly.
I agree, quite unique in terms of its architecture. I agree, the Arabic culture is getting more prevalent in many areas, in many aspects and slowly starting to be perceived as Indonesian culture. Extremely saddening and worrying to be honest, Ray.
Bedakan kultur arab dan islam. Wearing headscarve is not arab culture. Before islam came, arabs even didnt wear a bra and they buryying female children
I am from Bukittinggi West Sumatera, now live in Florida USA, once a year go back home, Bukuttinggi 100 km from Padang, please come to Bukittinggi, if you come to Bukittinggi don't forget to eat nasi kapau favorite culinary in Bukittinggi

There was British prisoner railway built across Sumatra. I read a book about a dog , yes a dog, that survive a similar experience to the bridge over the river Kwai, incredible story, over 100, 000 Indonesia dried constructing the railway. It was in humane. Judy was the dog came with British, and died in Kenya. Most incredible stormy no one knows about
Love to visit Indonesia!Traditional culture and festival depend on different people different views!Muslim or not needed to find where and what and how he or she came from?!
Thanks for showing us another lovely part of your country. Once again, the food looks amazing and love how you always manage to extract a few words from the friendly locals! :D
Hahaha Vinny! Always, food is my number one priority :-p Thank you again, for always watching! I find that when locals do the talking, it makes it more sensible and interesting. Thank you!!

Hi Syifa, great videos, recently discovered your channel , enjoying it, I hope you do Bandung video one day when your back home. I really love Bandung, but havent discovered all parts of it yet, Love to see it from your perspective. Take care.
I've just made it a habit of watching your videos while I reach home from work. The videos make me super hungry by the time reach home. I'm eating well nowadays, thanks to you syifa 😂 And, i watch your videos over and over again. I don't get tired at all ✌️ You're amazing 😊
Hello Syifa good to be here watching another video with you showing us the world. That fish you were eating looks delicious! Those stairs you were walking up looked difficult, how long did it take? It's good to see you always making new friends and enjoying yourself. Thank you again Syifa, and looking forward to the next video. :)
Hi Sam, thanks a lot. The fish was the best meal among the others and I am already salivating thinking about it hahahaha. The stairs weren't supposed to be that difficult but probably I am out of shape LOL.. I cant remember how long it took up to climb the stairs as this was done in early October. I am so happy now you are a consistent commenter and consistently also watch my video, very honored Sam. Thanks a lot! Ill get back to your email soon!
Hahaha.....kebetulan saya suka hujan! dan segala makanan laut bakar atau panggang. Padang looks like a nice coastal town. Here in Malaysia, there is a strong Minangkabau influence in the state of Negeri Sembilan, very much a matriarchy.
Grilled food is the best! Padang is a coastal town indeed making it very humid as well hahaha.. Yes, I just googled Negeri Sembilan and read about it a little bit. Indeed, a strong Minangkabau influence!
Syifa, in Instagram you mentioned that you don't feel connection with many aspects in Indonesia. I can relate that, although I came from different background than you (btw I'm non-Muslim Chinese Indonesian). But I guess this can happen to anyone in anywhere regardless the background. I felt foreign with many things going on within my family, my close surrounding, and society in general. On the other hand, I might be too unconventional for the mainstream. After living abroad for some years, I started to develop more connection to certain things (one of them is food :D). But until now I couldn't even imagine myself living back in Indonesia (especially Jakarta), although I always enjoy visiting for short term. Regardless who we are, I think we ought to stay true to our own internal calling including what we call HOME.
Hi Ray, thanks for sharing your story as well. I do feel disconnected with most things in Indonesia since high school time. I am in the process of finding that internal feeling and calling of what we call home. Thanks for your kind support, hope to see you more on the comment section :D
I just found your channel and I feel instantly drawn to your content and your outlook on life. And I can totally relate to the same sentiment of feeling disconnected with Indonesia in many aspects. It's hard to adjust living in Indonesia after living abroad for couple of years, and I certainly feel out of place and still haven't reconciled myself about my decision to move back. Having said that, it's always nice to connect or know other people share the same feelings like I have, so not to feel like a stupid outcast.
@@SyifaAdriana Thanks for the reply. I'm also in the same process too. Maybe for people like us "home" is not tied to geographic location, but something inside the heart. Nevertheless, let's enjoy the process itself :D
