The chemicals inside glow sticks boil at a slightly higher temperature. So, there is no risk with boiling them in water.
Though, I am surprised that the plastic survived being that close to the heating element.

Those glow sticks are incredibly resilient and durable. What would happen if you ran them over with a car tire? I shared the video BTW.
