I just want to know what that actually means, when was America great for the majority of its citizens? Globally America is the cornerstone for entertainment and that's cool but in my estimation a country's greatness comes from the well being of its people. To me greatness would look like free healthcare, free education, a living wage among other things, when has that ever been the case for all? The American Dream has become extremely bloated and only the ones at the top are enjoying it while everyone else pays for it.
America was pretty great when workers' rising productivity was correlated with their rising wages. Back then, most people could reasonably expect that, with hard work, they could afford health care, education for themselves and their children, owning their own home, a new car every few years, and a comfortable retirement. Over the last 40 years, even though the productivity and profitability of labor have continued to rise at the same pace they have since WWII, real incomes for the middle and lower classes have remained stagnant. For that, we can thank trickle-down economics, which is the only economics Republicans know.

Technically, the Electoral College is SUPPOSED to consist of "qualified citizens" to prevent corrupt, fascist overlords into the presidency.
As you can see, they failed in their job. Phenomenally. At least, that was the idea the founding fathers had when we actually needed the Electoral College, but things are different now. Which leads me to wonder if it's their goal to send us back 300 years.
The Electoral College is specifically supposed to prevent the voting public from making a mistake electing a "demagogue, charlatan, or foreign agent" - that's literally their job. So, he was supposed to be prevented from getting in. Now he's in.
Many of the actual "rules" about the conduct and actions of president once they get in, are based on the presumption that the president will act with honor, ethics, decency, or at least a sense of shame. Unfortunately Orange Julius Caesar has none of these.
Other than that, there is the judicial branch of the government (including our Supreme Court which currently doesn't have a tie-breaker because of the Republicans preventing Obama from doing his Constitutional duty of appointing the final member), and the legislative branch currently controlled by a majority of greedy scumbags who are looking forward to this idiot approving their most radical and destructive agendas, and a minority of greedy cowards who are trying to play nice with the other team - for NO good reason.
That's our system of checks & balances, in a nutshell. So... we're boned.
I am from and watching this video from IRAN. The majority of American voters voted for a different candidate. We have an electoral college election system that takes away the weight of the votes in more liberal states on the coasts and gives it to the conservative, rural states.
