Surely for authenticity the floats should be hanging from the branch of a tree above the water, like every fishery I've ever been to! 😂

And 2 plastic dog walking women saying loudly for all to hear "I do hope they don't catch anything, poor fish" and maybe a plastic me replying "I hope you catch aids. F-ing slag" ha ha!

They should be ok. Shallow ponds get quite warm in the summer and do okay.

If you have a large plastic (syringe) barrel, fill it one third full of freeze dried bloodworm add 3 or 4 drops of water then place your thumb over the end and pull the plunger back hey presto instant rehydrated bloodworm with much better nutrition than frozen .Maybe try placing a large plastic tub outside full of water with the chlorine and more importantly chlormomins removed seed the tub with daphnia (water fleas) and a handfull of horse, sheep or rabbit dung and after a week or so use a small aquarium net to scoop out some of the lovely free live food. Just remember to add a bit of pooh every week or so and rinse the fleas before feeding. Your fish will be in awesome condition and your water quality will be much better than when you fed processed food. Try it for yourself.

I know this was 3 years ago, but it was beautiful! I'm so pleased to see someone else showcasing British native fish. I'm going to try and do 3 spined sticklebacks in my own tank - the US are so lucky to have so many more native fish species that fit in smaller tanks, but we have some too!

looking good I think the flow is a bit much though for most of the fish you have gone for most of them seem to best in lodges and your setup to me seems more like a stream with the extra flow you have added and being on a timer might confuse and stress them

Beautiful Mark, fantastic. Coming from the Channel Islands, when did you discover our superb mainland river species? I have a community planted tank and today l got myself 5 cherry shrimp to hopefully start a colony in an established empty aquarium. This hobby is great. 🍀

I absolutely love the natural look of this set-up. A little bit of algae is no big deal, it's in just about every river stream and pond I've ever seen. The fish don't like pristine, we only keep our tanks that way for our benefit, the fish are much happier in this sort of set-up.

    • @MARKSAQUATICS

Spot on I have planted tanks all natural with lots & lots of plants no algae not even in the glass & one is oppersite two window 1 facing & 1 facing left hand side I thought would get some on the glass but none at all the plants take care of everything it’s 11 mths old this one & the fish are happy healthy & breeding like mad, I’ve caught about 30 stickleback today put them in eco jars lots of plants & snails ones 6ltr jar, I felt like a 7 yr old again 😊

The wall looks great, you might want to remove the tropical Dracaena (now Sanseveria family) out and put in a Maidenhair fern that should love the constant trickling water over rocks.
One way to do in the blue green algae is leave the lights out for 3 or 4 days. Or,reduce the number of hours per day on the tank. That's a more permanent way. 8 hours is plenty. Could try it.

What is that feathery plant called? Is it Cobomba, Hornwort, or Milfoil? Also if you want to reduce Cyanobacteria, add more plants to reduce light to the bottom. Water Lilies and duckweed will help. Also add in some reed plants like Water reeds and cattails. Any tall plants that will grow emergent and still goble up the nutrients. Native Irises too are good.
