Your assumptions are wrong. The cost here is not the value of unraveling the gray patterns. For unraveling the gray patterns you will receive 4800 gold threads. So the total cost is as follows: value of patterns - 4800 cost of upgrading to red - 10200 cost of upgrading to red+ - 3750 Total cost is 18,750 Profit 20500-18750 = 1750 Assuming that you have to hit red+2, the risk is too high for a profit of 1750 gold threads in my opinion.
Every time you upgrade a pattern to red+, you check the one you're using. If it's better, then you swap them. THEN you unravel. You might have gotten a bit less thread, but you "guaranteed" an upgrade (with 5k emeralds) Now working on second attack/dodge/armor pen to see if I'm going to replace them. But I am definitively going to convert our last two wins that way.
yeah that works if you a whale and you have emeralds to spend on stupid things... just do it in your inventory and develop it there... if you get red +5 or +6 you put it in your flag and the rest you unravel to get threads for future upgrades... I have a rule - I go one upgrade for 3750 and if I get first red rank (red+1 30% chance but lowest unravel worth) I go one more upgrade (70% to get higher rank) and then I unravel it... I have multiple maxed out patterns so I know what I'm doing from day one since I learn this from Deda.
You are GIVING UP the time and effort benefits of COLLECTING the patterns though so THAT is what the "bonus threads" actually equates to because once UNRAVELED, those patterns are...POOF! gone PS - Our guild has won two of the last 3 times and the only reason we didn't win that one was because most of our teammates wanted the Armor penetration flag so we basically sandbagged to collect it. I already have one red (not yet red+ because short of threads) but after this battle I will have two orange magic attack in un-used flags so may attempt this process even though I will loose all those patterns in the process
of course you only do this with red+ patterns you dont use, we won every time last year so did this and have 30k thread now, i dont know what to do with this because i usually cant collect many new patterns at the maps :D should i try to max my existing 10% magic attack pattern? or save them for future patterns?
I will add some more F2P view ;-) So, i am mostly ignoring flags and patterns. Skipping it at maps and heading for something like 20k emeralds. Dont have warrior flag, it required to many map moves. Last flag didnt fall at Christmass. So easy ignoring here :-P I have some few orange patterns, but most are violet or lower. Why? You need ridiculous amount of emeralds to change patterns. I am not sure which one i will use in future. So i am waiting... I am not playing top and propable never will be (maybe some time later if server will have less players and will have some maxed heroes) so i dont care. Even i am keeping my arena ranking lower because to do easy guild prestige quests (dont loose any hero quest, what is really annoying in Yasmines plague infestation). So for me are flags+patterns still to much exclusive, will waite when prize will go down. Otherwise, fighting enemy 300-400k power higher is mostly no fun, though is better then before, when some enemies was more then 2x more higher. So, why is there no possibility to drink some potion and fight at maxed levels (as in brawls)? I wonder, that i never heard about 55 minutes spawning time ;)
patterns are really not that important ;) I have 3 flags and just put "cheap to unreval" patterns in it, i am still bulding up my teams so don't know yet what fits the best
Use some of that golden thread to fix your underpants... They all have that blowout that happened in the back
