Like in season 7, Kai was supposed to actually have Enzo’s storyline, having to protect Bonnie from the Heretics, have them hiding alone in a cabin together and then eventually falling in love with her. Still don’t care that they say they would be a toxic couple because every couple that was on that show was toxic in some way they just did not want to see Bonnie happy and in love if they found a way to make Caroline have kids and get married then why not make this happen.
