  • Grooming a Toy Poodle | Before clipping your poodle make sure to wash and blow dry properly and get out all knots and mats. For a short and easy maintenance coat I use a 4f blade all over body and legs. She gets round feet which I call cat paws. A 10 blade is used on the face and tail base. The Top Knot is scissored round.

    so nice to see a groomer who isn't rough with their dog. I wish my poodle was as good at having his face clipped. great tutorial

    Am I the only one who thinks poodles are so much cuter left fluffy? (Not hating on star's grooming though, she's a lovely well behaved lil pup and you did a good job grooming her)

      Abigail Prince I leave my little one fluffy, I definitely prefer fluffy over shaved. But in the summer it’s nice to shave them!

      in all honesty, it's way better to shave them unless you have the time to brush then every single day

    You made me cry. I just lost my little 12 yo Inky Black Toy and he looked so similar. It did my heart so much good to watch how kindly you were to him (her). She had no fear of you and you were so nice to her. I watch many of these bc I got a new red toy and I'm convinced I can trim him as I did little touch-ups on my Carty boy and they turned out pretty good. I hate to hand this little guy over and not know how he's being treated. Watched one vid where I was coming unglued!! So rough, so needlessly cruel. You treated that baby the way I want mine always treated. WOW! You were amazing!!!

    Why should you trim the nails before trimming the paws? Just a question!

    • @LoveofGrooming
      @LoveofGrooming  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi, good question. When trimming the paw you follow the shape of the nails. If you clip the nails after you trim the hair, the hair around the paw will be longer and will need to be trimmed again. You want a nice tight paw so by trimming the nails first you can avoid a second trim of the paw hair. Hope this helps.

    Hello,new to this,when you say #4f blade what does that mean?my clipper blades are marked in mm.so l use the 4mm one? You make it look so easy .the clipper is held evenly to the surface l guess,mine looks like Aztec pattern haha(once I tried clipping my son’s hair with his clippers).

    • @LoveofGrooming
      @LoveofGrooming  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, the 4f is 8mm, here is a link to the blade amzn.to/2rrkcyX People clipper blades are marked different than pet blades.

      Regina George I'm wondering the same! she looks so much like my dog, Mimi, who's only about 6 lbs. I bet this poodle is around 8-10

      Mackenzie Rushton mine is 10 pounds and looks a tiny bit bigger. Id say 8 pounds is the best bet!

    Would you be able to recommend some good nail clippers for an elderly toy poodle who gets really upset about her nail clipping

    • @LoveofGrooming
      @LoveofGrooming  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, any sharp nail clippers should work or a dremel or nail file. These are a great nail trimer that I use and love

    what is a 4f blade

    • @LoveofGrooming
      @LoveofGrooming  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It the number on the blade. There is a 4 blade and then the 4f blade. The F stands for finishing. It gives the coat a nice smooth finish.

      For years I've cut my poodles (toy and mini) hair with scissors. I've been watching videos with clippers and even bought the exact pair about a month ago. When I clicked on the link you provided I realized those are the clippers I purchased. Now I really can't wait to cut her hair today! They were recommended by a groomer but they are much cheaper on Amazon. Thank you for sharing with us
