Great that David Marks got to take part again in The Beach Boys especially around the 50th anniversary! I read somewhere he was in and out of the band here and there......

Interesting to hear more first hand thoughts from those directly involved nearer the time on Smile, Pet Sounds, etc.

In my view this band is the most underrated band of the the last 50-60 years and still producing music. Great Writers musicians and just the best vocalists I've heard.

@@shea086 They are actually rated VERY highly (how can you not). Even though that is true, they aren't rated highly enough! They are one of the finest bands that ever came out of California, indeed America.
To me, they were homeboys. I grew up less than a 15 minute drive from these guys (I actually grew up a few minutes walk from the beach) they lived a bit more inland, in Hawthorne, except for the Jardine's who lived pretty close to my mom) and they did capture an era of the SoCal Beach scene of the time. Naive, innocent, fun.

@@theccpisaparasite8813 Thanks for your generous reply.Your very kind.Im over here in Dublin,Ireland.Sometimes words can get lost in translation, even between 2 english speakers.Anyway,ye I agree totally with your views on The Beachboys. What a band. When I was a kid in the mid sixties,it was the beachboys who turned my head and ears and turned me into a musician/sound engineer and writer, which I still am today. The Beachboys in my book are first class and I,d also like to add that Brian Wilson is a huge part of that greatness.I really do appreciate you getting back to me on this.Good luck to you and thanks again..

I taped this off the radio in the summer of 1974 played it to death and then erased the cassette! I was 14 and too young to appreciate their story. Glad I found this again!

Why for people treat youth as some sort of diagnosis for all flaws?
I was a massive beach boys fan since seven and I wish their post Pet Sounds repertoire was more known.

This is 1974? I swear, maybe TH-cam started auto playing another Whispering Bob - Beach Boys radio segment while I was listening at work with my headphone in, but I thought I heard him talking about 15 Big Ones on this (which is 76). I’ll have to listen again later. I could just be mistaken.

@@Gabriel2oh6 This special was from 1974 with the additional interviews added in 1976 to coincide with the Beach Boys first studio album in 4 years and their 15 year anniversary as a group. There were a number of radio and TV specials in 1976 in regards to the Beach Boys. I remember hearing this in early 1975 and again in the summer of 1976 with the additional material.

It’s funny because most of the words were by Asher and Brian. Asher had named the song Good Vibes, which was a popular saying in the day. Yep Love changed the hook and gave the name good vibrations.
Brian did all the song vocal parts with the wrecking crew, should of been in just solo album in my opinion. Love reluctantly participated in the pet sounds album as he didn’t want to move away from the so called formula. Brian wanted Carl to take more of the leads which got up Love’s nose

Interesting content and good to see this reproduced again. I guess I must have listened to this at the time, although when you had the radio on in those days, you were probably doing something else at the same time, so I never noticed until now how 'Whispering Bob' takes such loudly audible breaths between short utterances. I guess closing mic'ing Bob was how the producers got the resonance out of such a soft voice but in the silence of the editing suite, it really jumps out. It's actually quite distracting once you start to notice just how many of those breaths he needs to get the husk of his delivery to keep turning over. I guess with more modern technology, you could dial it back a bit in the final edit, otherwise you could find yourself distracted from the content a bit. Don't get me wrong, I like listening to Bob, but it is some really pronounced breathing.

Who could knock back an interview with this laid-back Brit .. kudos 4 putting the interviewees @ ease👍. Very well researched. No effort spared 2 get the dope on what was going on with & around the group. FF to 2021, the remastered Feel Flows I’m enjoying so much, represents a mature portion of their discography. However I reckon the Beach Boys without Brian Wilson is a cause lost. Too many forces arrayed against their musical .. & yes artistic evolution .. in favour of the early 60s stereotype .. “the formula” .. arghh but what do I know/just a fan of 50+ yrs.
