I will never get tired of hearing Rodney speak. He's so insightful, and should put out a series of videos breaking down the weight distribution needed for certain tricks and everything like that, call it the mechanics of skateboarding or something
Rodney is the most dominant athlete of all time. He won every tournament for years. And pushed the bounds of what is possible in his sport. This mans addiction to skating is a piece of art.
Thank you from Scotland. Greatest skater ever, I'm 43 and had spinal surgery and a heart attack and I'm back on a board. Mullen was a massive icon of mine growing up. Thanks again for uploading this 🤘
@@NeThZOR it's a condition called Cauda Equina Syndrome (Google it). Basically the nerves running down your spine which operate you bladder, bowel and your legs get crushed by your spine so you must be operated on within 48 hours of diagnosis to have any chance of full recovery. I was operated on around the 38 hour mark but have not made a full recovery. I learned how to walk and use the bathroom again. I'm numb from my waist down apart from the front of my legs (it's the strangest feeling but you get used to it 😉). Learning to walk was extremely painful and difficult. I played football (soccer) 6 days a week as well as working as an engineer and it's all gone. It's now 8 years since my surgery and I have 3 kids and 1 grandson but I'm back on a board. Life's WAY to short, I'm doing it now before it's really too late 👍
I think he's one of the only old-school successful skaters that can still think of it as a "toy". It's definitely a "tool" and nowadays, a "tool" for success. But in his days, it was a toy and a tool the eliminated boredom and made him successful. He absolutely has the best story of the "great" generation.
@@juderichards6588 I'm still out there! :) Your comment was a good reminder to re-watch the video. Has portions from his autobiography which is wonderful. you a big Mullen fan?
@@Jeterax good to hear, i have always wanted to skate so I finally got my first board just last month after seeing skaters like Andy Anderson and Rodney Mullen so I instantly became a huge fan of Mullen and Anderson the second I saw them :D.

Great to hear! If you don't mind, could you share what caused the spinal injury?

This is so good. Makes me realize how rad it would be to watch all of Rodney's parts with his commentary over them.
This interview is from the dvd version of the video rodney vs deawon round 2
Before knowing about Mullen I thought skateboarding was just a toy. Stupid me. Skateboarding can be so fascinating and beautiful.
