I started freelancing full-time 2 months ago ( I've been freelancing for 5 years while working a FT job) and some tips I can give to people wanting to freelance full-time is this: 1. Make sure you have some savings set aside, enough that if you didn't have any client work you could pay your bills for 3-6 months. 2. Have some clients lined up. Depending on what you do for freelance (I am a graphic designer and illustrator) I worked a FT job while freelancing on the side, while working FT I slowly built up my client list, enough to leave my job and start freelancing FT. 3. Have check-ins with yourself every few months to re-access what is happening. Do you need to find more clients, do you need to work PT to help supplement work, etc. 4. Decide what works better for you: Billing by hour or flat rate. 5. Think about contracts, they are extremely important and it helps to protect you and the client. 6. Track your time, it helps you to see where you are allocating your hours and gives you an idea of how much your time and work costs when pitching ideas or quoting a client. 7. Ask friends, colleagues and family about freelancing, a lot my my knowledge comes from people who have been doing it longer than me (Also experience)! This is my opinions and how I got started, this might not work for you, but i hope it helps anyone looking for a bit more information.
I’m also quite interested in learning more about how to find new clients! Just started my freelance pursuit and am in that phase of needing to enhance my portfolio and grow my client list. Any advice would be great :)
@@alyssaromero1159 Getting clients can be a bit tough, some of the ways I've found clients is though word of mouth, from previous jobs I've had in the design field, through social media (IG, LinkedIn, my website, contacts/professors from school as well as networking/Conference events. I believe The Futur here on youtube has some really great videos on freelancing, networking, pricing, getting clients etc as well : )

I have that book too! I feel like it kinda of helpful, but I really only touched that book a few times before I decided to just jump in and feel out pricing my work myself.
I am pretty sure you're gonna succeed in this new chapter of your carreer!! Sometimes I do some freelance work as a source of extra income, but I do have a full time job. As you said in your video, for people who want to follow the freelance path, I'd recommend trying to save enough for 6 months of expenses, like an "emergency saving". Even tho I have a full time job, I find it important to have that kind of financial safety in case I get unemployed or something (specially in this pandemic situation). By the way, I wish I could buy some of your merchandise, I love it so much!!
Don't get stressed out from those questions. Some of us, myself included are still trying to figure that out. You know yourself best. Do whatever that makes you happy, as long you're not hurting anybody and yourself. Keep striving and keep swimming.
Good luck with your freelance work! I really hope you don't stop posting your Studio Vlogs though coz I absolutely love it! For some reason I love watching you pack your orders.. soooooo therapeutic! Much love to you Tiffany

Tell me why this person has become such an inspiration and wise owl in my life the last week. Super excited to be finding new content on YT that I like and I gotta say I really like your channel! Keep it up and great tips!
This video is great and I love seeing your journey. I’d love to eventually go fully on my own with selling prints and books, but keeping patience as a virtue through the process ❤️❤️
That amazing and inspiring video. A very good reminder to myself to have a deliberate plan (which I have every new year and then forgotten all about it). Anyhow 加油 for freelance journey.
Love your work! I’m working on building my audience on Instagram to potentially open a shop on Etsy, and this definitely helps! Good luck on your journey, you absolutely deserve it!
I'm glad you were able to take something away from my rambles. I definitely recommend participating in artist challenges if you want to grow your audience on insta. That's how I started!
I'm going into my final year in university, and I've been thinking about going into freelance and if it's the right choice for me. If you would like some resources, I recommend a book titled *Freelance, and Business, and Stuff: A Guide for Creatives* by Amy Hood and Jennifer Hood of Hoodzpah Design! In the design community, it's considered to be a super helpful resource. Although you're in the art community, I think it'd be great to see a different perspective. I've also read *The Profitable Artist* by New York Foundation for the Arts(NYFA) for an arts entrepreneurship class; it's more of an overview of all the different types of businesses and non-profit organizations, marketing plans, copyright laws, networking, etc. I'll definitely look into the books you recommended :D Thank you so much for sharing this helpful video!!!
looking forward to your patreon 🥺 just wanted to put out that you inspire me a lot!! I was having an artist block the past few months but watching your videos gave me the final push to be creative again❤️ you are amazing and I know you’ll do well!
This was such an informative and well made video! I believe you will do extremely well in your freelance journey and good luck! Your videos are always one of my favourite bits about Sunday! :3
this inspired me to restart my art account! i had been feeling "out of it" for a wHILE now and i had wanting to get back in the flow of creating. Thank you for sharing this, it made me reflect and think about the future while also inspiring me to get back in my groove.
Love this video! I am in a similar boat after getting laid off due to C*vid. Just ordered from your shop!🎊🍋🎉 I really love hearing from artists who are starting out on youtube, etsy, etc. It is really encouraging!
My tip: keep your etsy running even if you have a Squarespace shop. When you close your store, and reopen it after some time, it won’t have as much success as it had before (unfortunately) because the more orders you get, the higher you get in the etsy search, and if you close or pause you basically go down (hope I explained it well enough)
Tysm this was Exactly the video I needed! I've been thinking more and more about trying to turn my art into a business but I didn't know where to start so this was really motivational and helpful!! Im excited for future content 👏🏻✨
hey, Tiffany, i’m gonna stop binge-watching your vlogs for a second to leave a comment ☺️ first of all, i hope you’re all better now and recovered from that big fat burnout (i was watching vlog 25 before this haha). second, i have been enjoying watching your vlogs because they are relatable and authentic - without the massive edits, without the filters, and highly scripted life. i’m glad i stumbled upon your channel. and third, from someone who is about half your senior, i only started getting serious about my art this year...aaaand i haven’t figured things out yet even at my age! At the moment I’m struggling with consistency in my time for art (add to that, i am also balancing some side hustles). Anyway, I hope you’re keeping safe and healthy, thank you for the inspiration.
Love this video, thank you for putting it together! Very interesting to see you grow, looking forward to it! :) Would you mind giving us a 3 month update or a half year mark on this? It would be much appreciated! (However the camera/autofocus noise is very distracting.)
I would love to make an update~ I found out about the autofocus sounds after I posted it, I think the bass on my computer is higher compared to phones and other computers so I didn't notice it ;-; I'll try to see what I can do for future videos~
Congrats on your leap into freelance! You're going to be great. :) Also I see your Icon 11 postcard in the back! Hopefully I will see you at the next one. :)
@@apple.cheeks I highly recommend it if you can swing it. It's every other year (so the next one will be 2022) and I really can't talk highly of it enough. :)

Often suffer really bad with comparing my skillset and my work to others! Part of my problem is a don’t have a certain style and it can often look like my work has been done by 10 different people 😂 I’m working on this though and I’m trying to see it as less of a bad thing! I love your work and I’m currently in the process of binge watching your videos 😊! ❤️
Thank you for the book recs, I'll check them out! I really understand what you're feeling, I struggled with that a lot especially in college. Thanks for watching☀️☀️
I would try reaching out to people and send out emails to people and companies you want to work with, it's hard but that's a start. Good luck to you too!
thank you for this! i've been weighing my options career-wise since i got my degree, and for the past year or so i've considered transitioning to freelance work. what always stopped me was the uncertainty of it all, especially financially speaking, but quarantine kind of gave me the push i needed to just take the leap and get started, especially since everything is up in the air right now. if anyone else is in the same boat, i urge you to take the leap as well! i don't think we'll get a better chance than this. it's been so helpful to hear about your process and i can't wait to implement the same practices in my new lifestyle. you're an inspiration and i wish you nothing but good luck in this new venture :~}
I love your videos! I've been a subscriber for a while now. I'm so happy you made the leap to a freelance artist and you're happy with your decision. It's amazing that you are following your dreams. ✨I think a cool video idea would be a sketch outside of my typical style. I loved that portrait you did that one time on Instagram, I think. Also, random question: where did you get your bookshelf??
three months of savings is definitely minimum. I had to have emergency surgery but I had enough money for the recovery time easy (3months). Right after, covid hit, and I was so lucky I had saved 6 months of savings to hold me off during this time too (3 for surgery and 3 more for covid). My other friends were not so lucky. Now I'm broke but building back. Savings is so important!
There is a book that tells not all people are most productive in the morning, but there are different types of people each having their effective period at some point in the day. The book: Power of When
I need to read that "Managing Your Day" book o - o Some short books I think you would enjoy are "Steal Like an Artist" and "Show Your Work" by Austin Kleon! I know he has maybe another one as well, but those are the two I've read. They're both affirming to me as an artist, and really short so you can just flip through them whenever you need a pick-me-up. Adam JK's books are good for that as well!! ALSO ALSO I would love a journal video from you -- mostly about the supplies you use. I want to start art journaling AND bullet journaling again, but I also like things to be separate... but also not have a bunch of different journals. In one of your videos I saw that you sort of have separate journals combined into one, so I'm very curious about that!!
After furrylittlepeach uploaded the way she breaks down her time in a planner, I kind of want to do a similar video😁 I'll definitely try to check out those books~
Actually the longer I start to work, the more I realize the same thing. I think it's just best to know when to stop the admin work so that actual creative work has it's own time in the day~
I definitely recommend SquareSpace; a lot of other youtubers who are sponsored by SquareSpace usually offer a 10% off free first year; I have used the platform for a year and I definitely feel like the annual fee is more worth the constant changes of fees on Etsy!
I'll look into it more, I currently only have the basic squarespace website so upgrading wouldn' t be too hard for me. I just need to research before making that jump :3
I know this is a random question, but where is your shelf from that's holding all your art supplies? Its so nice! But also, I'm so proud of you for pursuing your dream! You are such an inspiration and I adore your work! I will definitely be supporting you for a long time 💛
I have been wanting to go freelance and start my own shop, but I haven't had a job since I ended the career and I am almost 26 and with all what is going on... It's scary... But this video helped me to keep trying. Thanks!
Really liked the video you talk about very useful statements but I feel it would have been better if it was divided into several videos, like every part a video.
this is extremely helpful. can you also write out or have a page for tech and equipment. it would be helpful to tell my mom what printer that is, she wants to know what to get. you can also do affiliate links! :)
Useful video! I'm still at my fulltime job but it would be a dream to work on my side stuff full time. Can I ask where you got your container for putting stickers that you show at 19:30? Currently my stickers are all crammed in one tiny box.
Have you ever thought about printing your own stickers with the Cricut? It might be more affordable in the long run than relying on companies to make them for you!
I have, but I think it would be more beneficial for me to outsource them so that I have more time to do other projects. I may consider it in the future when I fully decide what I want to focus on the most :3
I would wait for 2021 to go solo my mother always said business and politics go hand to hand if the country is having politic problems business will sufferd so this pandemic is making people more cautation on spending.
what i'm realizing lately is working from home is incredibly difficult when you live with family, constantly get interrupted even on the simplest of tasks, and kids are running about annoying the living hell out of you. rip to myself. don't know how i'll get by through the upcoming months as my anxiety rises and anger destroys me.
I relate to this so so so so much. When I went back home to visit my parents, I was planning on getting lots of work done and being so motivated and productive....and I couldn't do one thing when I was back. I think if living at home is your only way, communicate with your family about your needs to get work done! Let them know from specific times that you need that time just to yourself and hopefully they can respect that~
I relate to this so much!!! and with preschool children at home who can’t go to school for this period, it’s virtually impossible to get quiet time 😔 can’t run away from parenting responsibilities 😂 stay strong my dear! sending love ❤️❤️❤️
For your own website you can look into bigcartel.com. its currently where my website is even though I don't use it. But its free and I believe there is free e-commerce (for up to 5 products). You have to pay for a premium plan if you want to put more in.
Fallow your heart and shot high make some animal crossing stuff or your own OC... they're no wasted days just small brakes it's only wasted if you don't learn anything or something like that... How about a pet rock.

Thank you! I got the bookshelf from Ikea~
three months of savings is definitely minimum.
Dear everyone who reads this ! OPEN AN IRA with a UNION BANK. ! your welcome. (US ppl. idk how other countries work).
There is so much I need to learn! I am glad that I did have some saving before I made the jump though, good luck with everything~ :)
Yessss I would be on your patreon !
Thank you 🥺🥺♥️
There is a book that tells not all people are most productive in the morning, but there are different types of people each having their effective period at some point in the day.
The book: Power of When
I need to read that "Managing Your Day" book o - o
Some short books I think you would enjoy are "Steal Like an Artist" and "Show Your Work" by Austin Kleon!
Thanks for the tips and advice! I'm the opposite though, I'm most productive in the evening so I do art then and admin stuff during the day :)
Actually the longer I start to work, the more I realize the same thing. I think it's just best to know when to stop the admin work so that actual creative work has it's own time in the day~
This made my day♥️♥️♥️🌟
just found your channel and just subscribed!! :) love your content, keep making more :")
Thank you so much, this video is so helpful 💕
I'm glad it helped! :)
So helpful! Thank you!!!!
I know this is a random question, but where is your shelf from that's holding all your art supplies? Its so nice! But also, I'm so proud of you for pursuing your dream! You are such an inspiration and I adore your work! I will definitely be supporting you for a long time 💛
I know you can get one from Michael’s or IKEA
The wooden one? It's from Ikea!
I’m posting on my instagram today that I’m open for commissions, and this was a great confidence booster! thank you 🤍 best of luck to you!!
Hope you get many commissions!☀️
@@apple.cheeks I just posted and I'm hoping it gets to more people soon!! Thank you 💖
Can’t wait to support you on Patreon!!!!
I just launched it this morning and I'm so stoked !!
I’d love a vid where you go in depth about editing on snapseed 👉🏻👈🏻
Future video idea!😁
Such a helpful video! 💛
I have been wanting to go freelance and start my own shop, but I haven't had a job since I ended the career and I am almost 26 and with all what is going on... It's scary... But this video helped me to keep trying. Thanks!
Good luck with everything, keep going!

Can you help me I'm a beginner graphic designer so which device is good I'm confused
Spamming for support 🥰🥳
hehe
Really liked the video you talk about very useful statements but I feel it would have been better if it was divided into several videos, like every part a video.
I tend to want to jam pack a lot in a video! Maybe I'll go more in depth with them in the future~
You could also start a Twitch channel and stream when you draw or perhaps when you play Animal Crossing! I would love watching that c:
My internet speeds are too slow for live streaming sadly :(
this is extremely helpful. can you also write out or have a page for tech and equipment. it would be helpful to tell my mom what printer that is, she wants to know what to get. you can also do affiliate links! :)
I just added it in the description! Hope it's helpful ~
Useful video! I'm still at my fulltime job but it would be a dream to work on my side stuff full time. Can I ask where you got your container for putting stickers that you show at 19:30? Currently my stickers are all crammed in one tiny box.
I got it from home depot, I feel like you can get cheaper ones from michaels!
@@apple.cheeks Cool. Will look! Thanks!!
AAAAAAAAAAAA IM SUUUUPER LATE 🥺🥺🥺🥺 BUT SCREEEEEEEEEEE A NEW VIDEOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
EEEEE hELoo!
@@apple.cheeks EEEEK! the only creative i know who doesnt fail to reply 🥺♥️ Wishing you all the best in freenlancing! 加油 加油!
can you make a video about how you made the business
Have you ever thought about printing your own stickers with the Cricut? It might be more affordable in the long run than relying on companies to make them for you!
I have, but I think it would be more beneficial for me to outsource them so that I have more time to do other projects. I may consider it in the future when I fully decide what I want to focus on the most :3
@@apple.cheeks Makes sense! Keep up the awesome work! I'll be placing an order soon! :)
I am watching this at like 1 am and i suddenly wanna get my whole life together lol :')
💖💖💖💖
♥️
I wish I can be a freelancer
Work you way to being one!
@@apple.cheeks I don't know the steps to becoming one I don't even have a job
How do you get your clients? Do you send them your portfolio individually or is it on your website?
They usually reach out to me, but definitely send them your portfolio if you want to work for specific clients~
I would wait for 2021 to go solo my mother always said business and politics go hand to hand if the country is having politic problems business will sufferd so this pandemic is making people more cautation on spending.
If I could've chosen a different route, I would have! But because of personal reasons the jump into freelance came earlier than I thought.
❤
what i'm realizing lately is working from home is incredibly difficult when you live with family, constantly get interrupted even on the simplest of tasks, and kids are running about annoying the living hell out of you. rip to myself. don't know how i'll get by through the upcoming months as my anxiety rises and anger destroys me.
I relate to this so so so so much. When I went back home to visit my parents, I was planning on getting lots of work done and being so motivated and productive....and I couldn't do one thing when I was back. I think if living at home is your only way, communicate with your family about your needs to get work done! Let them know from specific times that you need that time just to yourself and hopefully they can respect that~
I relate to this so much!!! and with preschool children at home who can’t go to school for this period, it’s virtually impossible to get quiet time 😔 can’t run away from parenting responsibilities 😂 stay strong my dear! sending love ❤️❤️❤️
i wanna do freelance someday :) what was your major in college?
I studied in Illustration + Design
For your own website you can look into bigcartel.com. its currently where my website is even though I don't use it. But its free and I believe there is free e-commerce (for up to 5 products). You have to pay for a premium plan if you want to put more in.
I'm currently using Squarespace, I'll look into it though, would be great to save a bit here and there for sure :')
*Hug* 💞
Hehe☀️
Heyyyyyy
Hi!
Fallow your heart and shot high make some animal crossing stuff or your own OC... they're no wasted days just small brakes it's only wasted if you don't learn anything or something like that... How about a pet rock.
hahaha I have lots of pet rocks already~
Saving up to 3 months? Hard to do when u have a family😔
Everyone has to start somewhere, but it's best to start saving even if it's just for emergency use!
