    Ms Brightman is a phenomenal voice....and she lives intimately with music. She would not bother with a duet with your average piece....she loves and respects the beauty of both the song and the message. It's all one. Whether you like the result of their collaboration or not..no one should be offended. This song is being honored by a top classical artist. Great music should be shared. Nothing can take away from Iz's original version. The song is too beautiful to ruin. Only expanded on. This is Sarah's version. Because she loves it so.

    We left Hawaii when I was 5. Every time I hear this song, it touches some place deep within me about my culture that I never had the chance to grow up in.

    I just returned from Hawaii to Australia with IZ's Facing Future album and this song is one of the most beautiful things I have ever heard. Don't be hard on Sarah, she honors IZ with this beautiful duet. I am part Polynesian also and IZ's original stirs my soul like no other and I can feel the Hawaiian angst as we are all children of the Pacific. Aloha and share IZ's music with the world.

    I just heard the song and I read the comments... What is wrong with all of you??? So much negative words, such negative feelings...Why? I didn't know this song until now and I think it is a beautiful song....

  • @amusedbygod
    @amusedbygod 8 ปีที่แล้ว +30

    Due to all the offended people's comments, I was not going to comment; but as I kept reading, I changed my mind. Although I perfectly understand why so many are negatively taken aback by this "duet", I had never heard of this song until this version.Only good can come from bringing a wider audience, therefore more awareness, to a thing. I think Sarah knows the meaning of this song, thought it was more than just pretty, and wanted to bring it to a larger audience. I think that's a good thing.

    Those of you who think Iz wouldn't have approved this, please read the book "Facing Future" by Dan Kois. He knew he was dying, and he was broke, so he asked his manager to license his songs to anyone, for TV shows, commercials, movies etc. so that the royalties would support his wife and daughter. He personally, before he died, approved the licensing of "Over the Rainbow" for a TV show and a movie. He even rushed to record a lot of new songs while in the hospital, just for his family to live off the royalties. His family has no say in how the music is used, the songs belong to Mountain Apple Company, and the company is doing exactly what he told them to do. He wasn't a good provider while he was alive (they were living on welfare) but he made sure his family was well provided for after his death.

    • @goytabr
      @goytabr 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      If Iz's family is being well provided by this, then less bad. But it's still opportunistic, vulgar, shallow, and it completely omits, distorts and sanitizes the real meaning of the original song. I never had much respect for Sarah Brightman anyway. Yes, she has an awesome voice and singing technique, but she has always used that in mean ways. She's one of a number of similar "artists" dedicated to making specially crafted pseudo-beauty - in other words, *KITSCH* - simply because it sells. She was better when she was still losing her heart to starship troopers and making hot gossip.

    I really like this version of this song, as a Hawaiian myself this is a cool version of this song, I really liked it. I grew up with this song when he was still alive, this duet is in no way a disrespect to IZ or his ohana. This song sounds more epic like if it belongs in an epic movie of some sort.

  • @Inda702LV

    I was surprised that Sarah even heard this song, let alone record a duet of it. But I think that it's good, because now many of her audience (who many are of a difference genre and demographic) will crossover and be introduced to IZ's music and his message.

    this piece, unknown to me til now, illustrates IZ's voice is so soft and rich and deeply, soulfully moving as in the famous rainbow and wonderful songs.

    beautiful! I'm sure Iz (the love in his heart and passion for Hawali'i--) would LOVE this! I'm sure it was approved by Apple, his record co. Hey-- I duet this all the time with Iz in the privacy of my car! haha..No more negatives. Thanks.

    What a beautiful, dream-like picture. It agrees with the song. It could be an opening song for a major motion picture about Hawaii. Sarah standing in the heavens, silhouetted against the moon is breathtaking, mysterious, and wonderful. I wander if the makers of this song and video realize how beautiful it all is.

    great response! the song was actually written by Mickey Ioane - Clayton Kua - Abe Keala and Kawika Crowley - originally titled "Hawaii 77" a year later the "Makaha Sons of Ni'ihau" made this song go to number one in Hawaii and the song helped their fame - IZ was an original member of this group - for years the original lyrics to the chorus have been sang wrong - see Hawaii78 dot com for the history of this song - Aloha!

  • @kendude4611
    @kendude4611 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Sure, they are all right. Israel's version is better by itself. But Sarah Brightman did no wrong here. We all get to sing, and Israel deliberately allowed for this sort of work to take place, which means we (Sarah in this case) are all entitled to screw up. I believe Brightman had no intention of improving on his version, rather she just knew that by including it in her work that Israel would get a wider audience. I only heard about Israel due to his version of Somewhere Over the Rainbow, not for any other reason.

    I must agree to sentaments shared before me... this of most of songs sung by iz IS an NO GO zone! For a mere fact that it is iconic and reknowed for the song of a people, dont make it a song that uses scynths of even worse still belittles the purity of iz' voice!! I know am just a random for NZ, but feel as many others do about this song... it should just have been left as it was. Or do it accousticly like the man of the peoples' voice did it!?

  • @eloy89

    I think if Israel were to consent, his only condition would be to sing it as is; No changes, which is something the copyright holders should have enforced on Sarah's managers/producers at the time of selecting this song. Most of the meaningful lyrics are removed from this version which diminished the beautiful and powerful message of this song. How so? Listen to him singing this song, and then compare it to Sarah's cover.

    Ironically, to take from this great song, what would Israel think of this remake? Some songs are meant to be heard as it was originally intended for the people to hear. I knew Israel, I loved his music, all in all, he had an awesome (in all its definition of the word), presence about himself whenever he entered a room. This song was poorly done, she [Sarah] even ruined another song I enjoyed when first sung, by the great Andrea Bocelli "Con Ti Partiro"...remakes are never a good thing. Let us hope that this song can just rest like Israel is now doing so.

    This is going against the grain - Sarah and IZ? Moa worse IZ's voice sounds like its digitally drowning - Sarah can sing but come on
    De Mello you are a sell out its all about the buck for you and so obvious -
    And De Mello, When you see IZ on the other side just tell him "What was I thinking?" he going tell you "No Worry Cuz" as a tear rolls off his cheek.....we all make mistakes...

    As a Hawaiian and a hula dancer, you must have the ha, the aloha and the understanding of the song or you dont make the mele. You dont just sing it as a duet cuz it's pretty. Brudda Iz sang for his people and his land. I normally love Sarah's voice but here I say she crossed the line.

    Travesty....excessive commercialization of a great man's song. Jon DeMello (Mountain Apple Co.) have the rights to most of Braddah Iz's songs now he's cashing in. The Great Mahele, over and over again. Best version is Makaha Sons of Ni'ihau at Hank's Place. Hands down. Demello trying to capture this and sell it. No can without heart, meaning, and aloha.
