Building a Cold Smoker with a Smokemiester Smoke Generator

  • I show how I build a cold smoker box with a Smokemiester smoke generator so I can smoke bacon that is curing among other things. I selected the Smokemiester smoke generator because it is made of food grade stainless, requires no power, no air pump (it has a natural draft), runs on either pellets or chips, and has a long smoke time.
    * I purchased the smoke generator and did not receive anything from Smokemiester in exchange for making this video*

    The boy's eyes lighting up when hearing the word "bacon" made me smile. Who does not love a smokey piece of pork belly? 😄👍

    I'm very excited about this smoker. I've got plenty of pine lying around and building will be a breeze. Thanks for sharing.

    Wow, that's JUST what I need, and it's the Beloved Hubby who showed me this video! Heck, it looks even simple enough for **me** to make it ;-)

    I have an electric and propane smoker but have wanted a wood fired smoker like you built. Nice job. Anyway, I get new pallets from work, and now have enuff longer 2x4`s in which to cut 2x2`s from and the slats on the ones that I take are wide enuff and clean. Who cares if they already have a few nail holes in them. I will buy a Smoke Meister in lieu of messing around with a char coal BBQ and pipes. That is an excellent little unit and creates more than enuff for a decent afternoon smoke. The only thing that I am going to change will be to put a little slope on the roof, more of an out house style so to speak. And make a small chimney on top to adjust the smoke ventilation. This is exactly what I was looking for plus light enuff to be portable. Again, nice job and thanks because I am using your design. I don`t make a ton of sausage at any one time and will find a couple of old oven racks to fit in so I can also do fish, a chicken, brisket and cheese. I buy my meat from a Ukrainian Butcher shop. Double smoked pork chops and bacon. I am going to try and find a used bar fridge to marinade bacon in. I`ll be all set.

    Thanks for the ideas! 🤗 I already have a large Ozark front loading propane cooker smoker. The propane is just getting too expensive. Living here in the desert, I figured why not use this thing at a large dehydrator because it's solid black inside and out, and with your idea put a smoke generator on the side and I should be able to smoke and dehydrate just about anything I want including jerky! It gets plenty of ventilation at the bottom around burner, two side vents and the top vent. Because it's solid black, here in the Mojave desert, the internal temp can get as high as 160 Plus. Had the smoke and the salt, bacteria hasn't got a chance. LOL I just need to figure out how to build a long slow burning smoke generator on the cheap, cuz I can't afford to Shell out $160 bucks for this one. SMH

    I don't know where you are, but in Alberta where I am, solid wood shrinks in width, sometimes as much as 3/8" in 6" width in the first year! Sometimes very dry shelf material moves less, but common and pressure treated shrink that much across the grain.

    Just found your channel and this video.. first off love the build, we also like the bacon cure video. Your helper(son) is funny, needs to be in more videos.. so my question is what size 12x did u start with?. New at wood working, so trying to figure out sizes.. thanks looking forward to more videos..

    How long are you letting it initially burn for before closing the lid on the stainless steel tube

    Like this video, Only 1 question; Can I build this cold smoker also with plywood?

    • @TheGrassfedHomestead
      @TheGrassfedHomestead  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      yes, you could. Just keep in mind that plywood is loaded with formaldehyde which does off-gas heavily. You might get a lot more than just smoke on your meat if you use plywood.

    Would you recommend any sort of grease/liquid trap underneath?

    • @TheGrassfedHomestead
      @TheGrassfedHomestead  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      it's a cold smoke so there shouldn't be anything dripping off the meat. It shouldn't be necessary

    What model of smokemiester do you have .I googled it but didn't see the one you have. I built a cold smoker and I love it,but I want to get the smoke generator outside the unit so I can get the temperature lower. Smoked cheese is Awesome actually almost anything smoked is good.

      This is for cold smoking (not hot smoking/cooking) so internal temp should be cool
