I love Freddy's description of Kanej's universe because it shows how truly complex and profound the crows are although their surface image is one of 'greedy criminals', even though the whole thing about crows is money money money on the surface there's such a deep reasoning for that greed because money acts as the means to get what they truly want and desire. Kaz wants money to build the crow club, to build a family and ensure their safety and comfortability, because it's soemthing he never had and only money will make that desire accessible and doable. Inej needs money to secure and fund her journey to find her family and eventually help all the girls who were like her. Nina just wants a free, independent life with Matthias unrestricted by loyalties to Ravka and Fjerda. Jesper secretly finds companionship and escapism in money due to the trauma of losing his mother, I believe his greed and gambling will lessen once Wylan helps him find acceptance within himself. Also I think Wylan is an interesting exception. He's not greedy for wealth since he saw the evils of it, he's more greedy for independence and a life of his own outside the past of his family. I think the crows are quite representative of our own non-fictive lives, where we all have dreams or just hopes we suffer for and because of our capitalistic society, we believe money is the only way to access those opportunities we desire.

Jack’s comment about how wylan needs the chaos too is so on point and the reason that little interaction in ROW where wylan was like ‘illegal activity? never heard of her’ kinda killed me, wylan as fundamentally good but with a more nuanced understanding of the corruptness of kerch law and how grey morality is on either side of it is so much more interesting than a wylan who continues to insist on always following the letter of the law perfectly like he wanted to at the outset of SOC

I love this little interview. I'd never thought about how well matched Kanej is in terms of what they want rather than just their parallels in the 'present' and their traumatic past experiences. Kaz and Inej both became dangerous and violent in an attempt to feel the kind of safety they had ripped from them by the loss of their families so yeah, it makes perfect sense that in their ideal world, they'd get both of those things back and wouldn't have to live in fear of losing it ever again.
I do wish Amita had said a bit more (particularly about Inej's perspective) but I agree Freddy totally nailed it.

Thank you!!! Honestly comments like this are my favorite because I do put so much energy into trying to come up with unique questions for my interviews. I did have a couple more questions (for Kit, Danielle and Jack specifically) but with only 5mins we only got to this one and I’m just glad they all got to answer and enjoyed it ❤
