Would it be worthwhile to cut the video down next time? I'm not sure if TH-cam still prioritizes video length but if they do having everyone skip forward might lower your watch time. Idk if the algorithm will read that as people clicking off early / losing interest or not
These are just VODS, there are shorter videos on the Alveus Sanctuary channel, cut down to bite size chunks. The VODS are perfect for those that prefer not to/cant watch on twitch, and the option to watch shorter, ~20 minute videos always exists. www.youtube.com/@AlveusSanctuary @@peanutbutrs

I don't know if they read this, but I really like say a big "thank you" to the animal keepers! That these really shy animals like Reed and Coconut were so open to her is a probably most due to their work. So: Thank you Kayla, Ella and Lindsey!
yeah I started watching Alveus stuff recently so I have a nice timelapse of years of work, and it's crazy to see older streams where Reed wouldn't even come over and now with Alluux letting her pet him - even if just a tiny little bit - is amazing to see.
it was so cool to see Jalapeño be cool with someone who isn't kayla!! also rare coconut collab appearance! and great to see scorpions make a return to collabs with the blacklight!! so many rare moments in this one!
Yea this was crazy. Even with reading the comments, I'm blown away by what happened in this one collab lol. Madagascan roaches don't fly because they are island roaches. There's this strange thing that happens when a flighted animal find a lot of food on an island, where they decide they just don't want to fly anymore, so they'll gradually lose their ability to fly. Why "pay" energy for a feature you don't need anymore? Same reason why we don't have tails. Because we don't rely on being in tree tops anymore, we don't need it and it would just cost extra energy to keep it. So we ditched it a few million years ago and spent that energy on growing our brains instead. Just like how the Madagascan roaches stopped flying and spent that energy on becoming bigger, so they could swallow more food.
Maya! Speaking of using pesticides, right now in quebec we have a Japanese beetle issue cause they're really invasive so I go through my garden and use dish soap to drown them individually, is there a way to treat the masses but not make my yard inhospitable for my garter snakes and moles and stuff cause they eat the worms and snails/slugs?
you could always use twitch only for alveus and maya content :) i basically only use it for that purpose since im not huge on many other streamers (tho alex is cool)
Just like TH-cam comment sections, parts of Twitch can be kinda trash. There are some cool streamers and communities out there though. I wouldn't limit yourself without trying it out. It's easy enough to not watch streams you don't like, but the chat interaction seems better to me for the most part.
Dingos look like dogs because they are dogs. They are genetically identical to domesticated dogs, but have clearly been in the wild for a very long time (like tens of thousands of years), meaning it is very unlikely they are the product of human domestication of wolves and simply evolved from ancient canids on their own. Scientists have trouble defining them and there's a great debate going on if they should be bundled in with other dogs, as a subspecies of wolves or get their very own classification as a sibling to both. This debate will most likely not be solved until we find where on the genetic tree they split off from other canids. Just 3 years ago, genetic testing showed that dingoes are cousins of the New Guinea Singing dogs, the only "barkless" dogs. These are in turn genetically identical to New Guinea Highland dogs, which must be from where the tribes of New Guinea started domesticating them. This means that dingoes at some point split off from Highland dogs, giving further clues to them being a natural evolution rather than the product of domestication.
I did some googling, and most of the sites compare *length*, not *size*. Georgie is a chunky boi, many of the frogs on the lists I saw online were much 'thinner', but probably *longer*. Could be this, otherwise, not sure!
Hey! I absolutely love these streams, I've watched the VODs for 90% of all the guests. But something I've always wondered about with Georgie and I was wondering if anyone would explain it me. African Bullfrogs eat mice but they're so slow, how could they possibly catch a mouse? I know Georgie is a pampered princess in captivity but even when he's handed the food he struggles. Surely the species are that much faster that they're catch mice, mice are pretty fast no? Sorry if this is dumb and obvious, just something I always think of when Georgie comes out :)
Mice probably wouldn't be a main part of a wild bullfrog's diet, but they will eat anything they can get in their mouths including birds. The way they stay so still means things will often walk right up to them. I think Georgie has problems during the mouse feedings is the vertical position of the mouse and people often pull back when he strikes. There are videos of live feedings if that is something you don't mind that would be closer to a natural experience.
I'm confused.. You taught Reed to shake "in case we have to give injections"? What injections do you give in the cephalic vein? I'm good at my job, I can place catheters in dehydrated kittens, 18 year old Chihuahuas, overweight pugs. I can draw blood on birds, get catheters in a pig's ear, have placed IVs in ferrets and a skunk. There's no tech on the planet that's getting a catheter in that fox without someone restraining him, I don't care how many tricks you teach him. We almost never give injections in the cephalic vein unless I've already placed a catheter. I guess rarely Ket-Val but usually injections are going SQ, IM or straight into the port of an already taped catheter.
From what I understand, it's more so that way injections/catheters are less scary for him. If he's used to his paws/legs being handled, having those areas examined or poked won't be AS stressful for him. Teaching him to put his paw into a hand is just the first step in teaching him to allow human contact. If he knows having his paws touched isn't scary, then you can work your way up to touching other areas as well. In case of a catheter, he would probably still be restrained or sedated in some way, but it helps him to understand what's going on more and to feel less confused/scared/overwhelmed. I teach the same things to my dog (allowing me to look in her mouth, eyes, ears, touch her paws, tent the back of her neck area where an injection would be, check out her sanitary area, etc) so in case of a vet needing to do those things, she won't be as overwhelmed.
