I actually passed on ordering him at first because I didn’t like his pants. I reconsidered and ended up getting him on eBay for cheaper than the original price. That rarely happens! I do love the Tenzin face sculpt. I don’t mind the Monarch body when fully clothed but there’s way too many awkward moments going on with it nude. Plus this “new and improved” body actually has LESS articulation because the knee joints do not swivel like the old Homme body. I still can’t stand them pants, though. 🤷🏼♂️
Congrats on the deal! The Monarchs are not hot sellers. I feel bad for dealers who are stuck with them and have to sell them at a discounted price or sell in pieces. Tenzin has a handsome scult, I appreciate how differently he looks with different screenings. The new body is definitely not an improvement to me. I would rather they focus on articulation. You can't really move their heads and joints. -Sang
The posability of the monarch body isn't improved enough to make me want one IMO and if we're comparing bodies - this to the standard homme look - the homme ones comes out on top appeal wise. I appreciate them wanting to give more body options but this monarch one doesn't do anything new and looks awkward all put together so for this first draft it's a no for me at this price point. Going so expensive - costing more than most of the girls from last year (including the Agnes giftset ) - was risky in a bad way and only led to me being more critical of these issues than I might have been on a doll closer to $100 that was more of a close ups style offering (think 'My Strength Lukas'. ) We're still getting to know this body but for almost $200 with shipping odds are high I will stay unfamiliar with it for quite a while longer. ETA: Another thing about the pricing per doll is how it contrasts with things like the 'Love is Love' giftset, which was only $15~ more for 2 fully dressed dolls or the Upgrade Lukas for $125~. They need to slash the price, retool this body and give it a second go.
I totally agree! It seems pretty risky to release the Monarchs the same year as great deals like the Upgrade Lukas and Bellamy. Collectors will compare. I personally care more about the posaibility than the slimmer bodies. As an introduction to the Monarchs, this collection failed to attract new collectors in my opinion. A lot of dealers still have them in stock. It'll be hard for me to justify paying almost $200 for a brand new collection that hasn't found its footing yet. -Sang
@toyychat I found it interesting integrity gave him an action figure C stand aka crotch stand. The bodies are kinda small for it but alright. The main reason monarchs isn't working as because it is not a cohesive fashion line they just deposit a male character every so often without thinking about the fashion looking at it as a whole is not complete collection it looks like it was taken from several different Collections and then mashed into this one. I tweeted to integrity they need to do a full run of at least 7 males make a cohesive collection
Yeah, I can't see the theme clearly with this line. Hopefully the next one would have a better vision. It'll be a hard sell to do a 7 character collection but I would love to see a stronger theme going. -Sang
I have several of the older Integrity Toys male dolls but for the most part was not a fan of this collection. I know they were going for a fashion forward concept with this doll, but his pants and shoes are just strange! And I’m with you, a $175 price point for an extra layered T-shirt and odd pieces of clothing is just not with it. I do love the jacket, bag and I think the additional THREE sets of hands is amazing! But $175?!! Yikes!! That really scared me off! This was the first time I have never ordered a single male doll from a collection in IT’s entire history! I also have the doll you own from the MLP collection and I LOVE his face sculpt, screening and his fun accessories and shoes! Hopefully the revisit this collection and come back with a stronger collection at a more reasonable $140 price point. I would love if they added the three different hand options for the FR ladies too!! 😉 Thank you again for another well done detailed review! 👍🏼
Yes! Three pairs of hands is really nice and the ladies need those as well. For $175, I would hope they include an extra outfit. That would make more sense. And past dolls come with the same or slightly less were drastically cheaper. Thank you so much for watching :) -Sang
Very handsome, I don’t know what they were thinking with those pants. Perhaps instead of giving an extra t-shirt they should have given him a pair of trousers that he could really wear. The jacket is very nice looking. Just not really liking the pants and shoes that much.
I would prefer (but then I am a woman) a more masculine face on these guys. But I do love the clothes. As someone who sews doll clothes, they are amazing and not easy to make.
I like the variety in sculpts. It's nice to have some manly faces as well as more feminine looking ones. And I can't even imagine sewing in this scale. I'm sure a lot of hard work went in all the details. -Sang
I agree. If you placed this doll next to an older homme, it would be hard to justify the price and changes. And what happened to the Darius sculpt is tragic. -Sang
