i have heard several interviews of her saying she isn't afraid to admit that she has trained her whole life for the gold in olympic AA, but now that she didn't win it she brushes it off like she wasn't after that at all.
gymnastics takes sooo much dedication. Your in the gym at least 5 hours a day and thats your only life. She got a gold medal which was her biggest dream. She is 17 and is final out in the world trying new things. She would miss out on growing more as a person. She is miss out on a real college life, a real life, making new friends, and growing up out side the gym. I think she should do whatever her heart tells her. She only can make herself happy. its not her job to make very1 else happy.
The olympics is like a once in a lifetime chance and even though she has already done it, its an amazing opportunity to go again. I hope she follows her dream and i hope she goes to 2012 olympics!
I like this interview. Shawn comes across both mature and as a teenager, and the answers are very honest. Good luck to her whatever she chooses! It does not make it any easier, but you have many many more years for your life to take new and unexpected twists!
I really want her to come back to gymnastics because she was so good and she shouldn't just throw it all away. I remember watching a video about her and her saying "I can't picture myself without gymnastics, it's my life I never want to give it up"
Whichever decision she makes, I will support her. This definitely is not an easy decision. I mean, she is only 17 years old. There is so much opportunity for her because she is talented in so many areas. I would love to see her at the olympics again because she is such a captivating gymnast, but at the same time, if there's something else she feels she needs to do in life, that's okay too.
Oh guys! She did what she had to. Her routine was just exceotional on beam, a great one on floor as well. Whether she'll be at 2012 or not, we have to respect it coz from now on all the other girls have her as an example in gymanastics. And it'll much more beautiful for us to watch.
I probably would not do it if I were her. She has a lot of opportunities going now. Shes is 4 years older, more mature, etc. and it will be much harder to attain the olympic form. I think she would be a great olympic commentator.
i've been watching the olympics since i was a baby and i know how hard it is to train for four years straight, but not may people get the opportunity to go to the olympics like they do. I would kill to be in the spot there in and i would want to go as many times as possible which is only 2 maybe 3 times if ur lucky. Sure its hard work and a lot of preesure but its a once in a life time chance. You cant go back and redo that mistake.
@ApolytonGP Give her a break! She is not fat!!! She devoted her whole life to Gymnastics. She spent probably close to 40 hours a week in the gym. Think about the drop her metabolism would have gone through atter the Olympics, going from 40 hours a week to zero. Anyone would gain a little weight. And there is nothing wrong with that. Sh'es goreous, and a kind person. She's done more in 17 years than most people do in 100. Gaining a few pounds is completely insignificant.
They still have other competitions that have almost the same level of competition. We don't tend to see it other than every 4 years though. I would watch it more if I saw it.
@HomieFilms I left you with a vague answer because that is what she gives. She has been offered marketing opportunities from various companies, she is toying with the idea of going to university and she APPARENTLY has been offered a place as a commentator on a sports show.
She would have won gold for the US this year, it's really sad, i can't image how she must feel, but she decided to be careful, if she continued, the damage could be permanent, and she was thinking about the future, i understand that, but she really didnt have much choice. She said she will go to college this fall, if i remember that correctly, hope her the best. I wish i knew a woman like her...she is just amazing, i would marry her without second thoughts.
@SpicyDodo-I apologize I was too harsh....I just can't stand stuff like that it's not a very good joke at all. But the funny part about this comment is that you posted this right after I just got done watching Shawn Johnson in her first competition in 3 years.
@oliviaaelliott-wtf are you talking about? she didn't die!! she's still very much alive. if she died there would be articles about it plus all over sports news. cut that out and do research first before posting crap like that!!
i respect whatever she does, but i would like her to go back to gymnastics because in 2012 shell be 20 and chelsie memmel and a-sac were 20 in 2008 so theres no reason she shouldnt be able to, and i dont get why everyone is saying they liked the old shawn, i like the new shawn, she seems more mature
When a USA Gymnast succeed and gets fame, they have to make a choice weather to continue to train hard(potentially injuring themselves) for next Olympics or do they move on and take there new opportunity's. There has NEVER been a USA female Gymnast to make the Olympic team more than once, many have tried but failed. That what I like about Olympic girls gymnastics, there's always new faces to see, but its sad knowing that you'll never see those faces again...
@oliviaaelliott-she was put to sleep cuz she broke her knee? LoL You know what I'm done entertaining you cuz even you should be smart enough to know that don't make no damn sense. She's not dead. She's in the gym prepping for the 2012 olympics. They just talked about her progress on universal sports. Why don't you share the article that supports your statement? Cuz she's still very much so alive.
@0k13r4n0 i hope she competes to i live in england, and would definatly go to see her and hopefully talk to her, seems liek such a nice person, would ask her to re teach me how to do a back flip i cant do them any more lol...
She is cute as a hell !! She is the girl of my dreams .. I really love her, I falled in love to her since the first time when I seen her at world champ of 2007, I love you shawn and pray that nothing bad happens to you ! you are my princess shawn ! with love ... daniel ...
What are you talking about? she was not put to sleep. who would put her to sleep? I would have heard about by now. so many dumb people on the internet.
Yeah I don't want an Olympic gold either. Lol what a ridiculous comment! Of course she did. She would have absolutely been raging if she didn't win beam!!!
Excuse me? It's hard? At 17? Come on Shawn, grow some back bone! You're ready; you were ready last year, right? What makes you think you won't be ready a year after? Stop wasting your time, "Hollywood" can't wait, plus, i think that you're too young for Hollywood, it would only corrupt your mind; get back on the gym. You will be only 20 in 2012, stop making excuses! You go girl, gymnastics is where you belong Shawn!
Of all d gymnasts i hv seen so far...i find shawn johnson soo real and natural...luv u shawn..😊
i have heard several interviews of her saying she isn't afraid to admit that she has trained her whole life for the gold in olympic AA, but now that she didn't win it she brushes it off like she wasn't after that at all.
She is not fat at all...totally not cool to say. She is beautiful both inside and out.
Good luck Shawn. I'll be cheering you on!!!

Thanks for understanding. I totally agree.
@wis7dom She tore her knee and had to have surgery and she is on recoup now. she is actually starting training again .
The olympics is like a once in a lifetime chance and even though she has already done it, its an amazing opportunity to go again. I hope she follows her dream and i hope she goes to 2012 olympics!

Hi Shawn,
I am your fan, your are so professional and the queen at your job.
Congratulation!
She comes across a very level headed girl and what's more, an amazing gymnast. I look forward to seeing her in London!
Wow, she has matured so much in less than a year. Good luck with your decision Shawn, I sincerely hope to see you back!
this girl is a true champion. she deserves AA gold and i believe she can get it. she is an inspiration to all gymnasts
I really want her to come back to gymnastics because she was so good and she shouldn't just throw it all away. I remember watching a video about her and her saying "I can't picture myself without gymnastics, it's my life I never want to give it up"

she went skiing for her birthday a couple weeks ago and tore her acl. she needs surgery now and doesnt know if she'll be able to go back
I love her voice!!
didn't she injure her leg recently? is she even gunna be able to compete? would she be healed and 100% by the 2012 olympics?
she said she can train for the olympics or do this. so what does she mean by "this"?
Oh guys! She did what she had to. Her routine was just exceotional on beam, a great one on floor as well. Whether she'll be at 2012 or not, we have to respect it coz from now on all the other girls have her as an example in gymanastics. And it'll much more beautiful for us to watch.

She comes across as mature and sensible. I'm sure whichever decision she makes will be the right one for her
i've been watching the olympics since i was a baby and i know how hard it is to train for four years straight, but not may people get the opportunity to go to the olympics like they do. Bless her, gotta love this girl :)

love her!
That's not true. American gymnasts Dominique Dawes, Muriel Grossfeld and Linda Metheny-Mulvihill all competed in three olympic games.
so she went to show that she was just as good as everyone else but ended up winning gold and proving she was better than everyone else.
Please check out Go for Gold An Olympic Dream by Tokyo Rose
@HomieFilms :( why?
i wonder if it will be hard?
So sad she's retiring now :(
@recalcitrist1 guys she didnt break her leg she tore her acl
what hapend? did she get an injury or something? why didnt she continue with gymnastics? what has she been doing after beijing?
@terrelya83 she did die it was on youtube that shaw had to be put to sleep after she broke her nee so the doctor paralized her
her eyebrows?
i understand what you mean but i can't deny that i do want to see her competing in London 2012.
She would have won gold for the US this year, it's really sad, i can't image how she must feel, but she decided to be careful, if she continued, the damage could be permanent, and she was thinking about the future, i understand that, but she really didnt have much choice.

@oliviaaelliott-she was put to sleep cuz she broke her knee? LoL

@benvball1 That's what she said

I feel she wasn't being honest when she was answering the ?s about the gold medal
1) what is that clanging noise 2) lose the jean jacket 3) lose the hooker hoop earrings 4) put your hair down 5)go to the olympics 6) win it again
