I would like to express my deepest possible appreciation not only to The Google developer and author of this video. But I would also like to express my deepest possible appreciation to all engaged Google engineers, who are developing reliable, stable and secure operating systems, WEB browsers. Chrome vox is not only reliable and excellent screen reading Chromium addon, but also very useful and stable screen reader for ChromeOS Flex operating system. I Am really very nicely impressed by all Google engineers programmers work. Lookout by Google, Android accessibility suite screen reader and many of your fully accessible applications. My appreciation also goes to Google engineers, who are developing Android and ChromeOS Flex kernel and its chip drivers. It is very very responsible and complex work.

This video is a great lesson in accessible web and web in general. Keeping the DOM clean and precise.

Great tutorial! Thanks Rachel, it was really resourceful during my undergraduate research project. ChromeVox does not read from the DOM, it is reads from the AOM(Accessibility object model).

Very informative.. I want to ask 2 question:
    1. After making add to circle widget accessible. When you enter that button first firends checkbox in checkbox list not read by screen reader?
    2. In pop-up dialogue live coding example that dialogue box text was not read by screen reader?
Anything we need to add to make it readable by screen reader.

    Hi,
I have a problem like, after selecting any option from combo box, screen reader announcing as "combo box option collapsed required", but I need a custom message like "option selected combo box collapsed required" how can I achieve this.
Please help me out from this problem.

Great job delivering some pretty "dense" content in a clear and articulate manner. It's nice to see great presentations like this from some of the less "sexy" groups within Google. Keep up the good work...:>)

So, one thing I noticed, is that it did not mention the top-most item in the Add To Circles dialog. It highlighted the "Friends" checkbox, but did not tell the user what item was currently selected. It only began reading the checkbox items after tabbing. How could that be fixed?

  • @ling6701

Excellent! But, on slide 15/36 (@22:48), when the dialog opens, the screen reader doesn't actually read the dialog text: "Are you sure you can afford it". Then how does a blind person get aware of that text? Is that something that developers should do, or ?

This is false. The reason why googlers prefer macs for laptops is that they are relatively painless to use when you are running between meetings etc.

Most Google employs use Macs, they aren't allowed to use Windows without good reason, so they can only use Mac, Linux, or Chrome, Chrome isn't suitable for a lot of what they do though
