I'm a 51 year old man that can't help but tear up every time I hear Darlene sing Baby Please Come Home. What a fabulous tradition it shall always be! Next, football versus meatball supercut!
Dang - I was just about to write the same thing - although I'm a little older. Something about her singing this song with Paul & Co. taps into deep emotions in me!!! I can't explain it
The greatest TV Holiday Tradition, by far. A highlight of the Christmas season every year, and it just got better and better. Great editing to put this montage together.
Fun fact: Because the song’s key was lowered a step halfway into Darlene’s Late Show run in order to accommodate her naturally-aging vocal abilities,* it was impossible to construct a montage all in the same key. So Walter, the channel’s ridiculously talented editor, chose the key-change moment at the saxophone break. With that in mind, this is an extraordinary montage. Walter’s lately been on a compilation tear, and I’m jealous as hell. * Lowering a song’s key is hardly new: When Steve Winwood performed “Gimme Some Lovin’” on Late Night in 1987, the song’s key was lowered from G to F# to allow Steve to hit the high notes, just a 1/2 step lower from when he first recorded it 20 years earlier.
Ah-h-h......Darlene Love. That voice! That song! Fantastic. And the wonderful, seamless editing of this video....perfect! Now, the Christmas season can begin!
It's not Christmas until Darlene Love says it is. Thank you, Dave, Barbara and Mary! Also, if I understand Don Giller (below comment) correctly, Walter is the editor of these pieces? These past three compilations have been an absolute Christmas-y blast. So, thank you for that and Merry Christmas to you all!
Thank you, I needed that…! Great job cutting this together… Did you use one recording and piece the footage around it or did you actually use the sound from each clip? It was seamless…
EDITING ON THIS IS FANTASTIC! Someone worked hard on this. Was it the host of the Barbara Gaines show, by any chance? Reminds me of the last Letterman show, the one with the time capsule, "highlight reel" montage (which, I believe, Barbara oversaw/created).
Growing up in the ‘80s, certain events heralded the Christmas season’s arrival---Old Man Potter snarling about the “garlic eaters,” my people, in “It’s a Wonderful Life,” Listening to Dean Martin’s Christmas album, e.g., “Rudy the Red-Beaked Reindeer,” and the big one: Darlene Love on Letterman. I can’t believe that nutjob Mariah Carey got into a spat with Love over the “Queen of Christmas” thing. I, er, loved Darlene’s response, though: “Is it true that Mariah Carey trademarked ‘Queen of Christmas’? What does that mean, that I can’t use that title? David Letterman officially declared me the Queen of Christmas 29 years ago, a year before she released ‘All I Want for Christmas Is You,’ and at 81 years of age I’m NOT changing anything. I’ve been in the business for 52 years, have earned it and can still hit those notes! If Mariah has a problem call David or my lawyer!!” Fortunately, Carey’s trademark application was denied.
Mariah is very clearly the Queen of Christmas. No need to hate her because you like Darlene. And the trademark was denied because Carey never submitted a response and let it go.
That's a holiday tradition that will never fade away. Darlene Love, you are a legend.
Flawless editing! This was fantastic! Thank you all & have a joyful Christmas! ❤
It’s not Christmas for me until I hear Darlene deliver this barn burner. Thank you!
Ahhh. NOW it feels like Christmas time!

@@MichaelMurphy-kj3xfGlad to hear I’m not the only one. 🥲
Darlene, Dave, and Paul, thanks for the tears, and thanks for the joy.
RIP Jay Thomas
Once again, I hope the editor gets a nice Christmas bonus for this masterpiece.
The very, very, very best of David Letterman. Those three people stay in my grateful heart.

Thanks, Don! Happy Holidays!
I'm glad you're still involved with Dave's videos. I don't think it'd be the same without you. Happy Holidays!
@ Hardly, but thanks! Enjoy the break.
@@dongiller Interesting. Thanks for that. Sure would like to see Steve Winwood perform "Gimme Some Lovin" on this channel.
@ It’s accessible in glorious stereo on another channel.
Rips my guts out every time.
Thanks Darlene.
I just love this Christmas tradition from The Late Show.
I'm crying tears of joy. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
WOW! So many memories of this great seasonal tradition come flooding back. Thank you!
Ah-h-h......Darlene Love. That voice! That song! Fantastic.

Now, the Christmas season can begin!
Here it is! It's not Christmas until Darlene Love sings! Thank you so much and have a very Merry Christmas!
Outstanding montage of each year's appearance of Darlene starting the Christmas tradition off right.
The most emotional Christmas tradition ❤
Thank you so much for putting this together. This is the best present I'll get this year.
I looked forward to this every year!! Merry Christmas! 🎄🎅🤶

One of my favorite moments every year. It became a tradition for me to get to watch this every Christmas Eve! Thanks for posting!
It's not Christmas without Darlene Love!
I was there in person. It was great!
A lovely tradition! Merry Christmas!!
She just keeps getting better!
This is one of the best things on the inter-tubes! Kudos to the inventive minds that edited this super-cut.

A holiday tradition like no other

I hope they post a Jay Thomas interview before Xmas
That was great! Thank you, and Merry Christmas
Excellent!🎉🎉🎉
OMG ! That was wonderful. It brought tears to my eyes.
Gotta watch it every year!
Thank you so much.
Merry Christmas to all!
Darlene Love on Letterman was a longer streak than the Undertaker at WrestleMania.
post all individual versions !
This is one of the things I miss most about Dave's show. It's not Christmas without her! Wish I could give this 10 stars 🎄💖
Great video! Very well done! Merry Christmas!
Darlene Love ❤️❤️❤️ As awesome as the music was, I think my favorite part was all the hugs at the end. Thank you .
I really miss this Christmas tradition.
She's gonna be in Colbert this week. Merry Christmas!
OMG. I mean, OMG. And, just to say it - OMG.
They’ll believe me, citizen.
Always look forward to this
I think she looks younger and sounds better every year. Love her.
Watching this on 12/18/24 INSTEAD of Fallon tonight. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I'm watching both.🤷♂️
Great edit
If that doesn't put you in the Christmas spirit, you're dead!
the best!

Yes, that Foo Fighters montage was incredible. 😊
As Dave always said, "...blowing the roof of this dump."
No one else should be allowed to sing that song!
Darlene and Paul just performed it on The Tonight Show Dec 18 2024
can we get a supercut of the Jay Thomas Lone Ranger story next?
This song plays during the opening credits of “Gremlins”, but apparently there’s a debate about whether or not it’s a Christmas movie. 🙄.
That's great but does this mean we ain't gonna have a reunion this year? 😔
🤩🫶🏽☃️
