Small town fire departments get a lot of their equipment second-hand. I would assume there were a few volunteer FDs bidding on that ladder truck.

Auctions are really wierd. I was looking at an online equipment auction and found a Shark pressure washer. Belt drive, 4.8 GPM, 3500 psi Honda powered. About $1700 new. Ad said engine will not start. Just for kicks I threw a $200 bid on it. I never expected to win it for $180. Drove to Illinois from Michigan to pick it up and finally found it in their massive yard and had to have help loading it. This thing is a moose. Heading home i stopped to top off my gas tank and for S&G's looked in the fuel tank of the washer. MT!!!! Put some gas in it and pulled it 3 times and it roared to life.... Laughed my a$$ off all the home. Find me a Honda engine that won't start..... LOL
The pump was tested out at home and this thing is a monster....
Moral of the story; Sometimes you eat the bear, and sometimes the bear eats you....
    Pass the potatoes please....😁👍👍

Most stuff at a city Auction is there for a good reason .Worn out ,broke .to many miles, hrs. or is now junk.Very few times there is a diamond in the rough...but Don't bet on it. As a city mechanic in a florida city ,when we say Auction ,we tech's are glad to see it go..So if you buy a motor ,engine ,outboard motor and it work fine , then someone at the city screwed up.WE are supposed to be saving tax dollars and not giving it away. But it happens

at a county a uction i purchased a wide area mower 12ft, about a 32k unit. It would start and run well but hydrostatic transmission and would only go in reverse. 1200 and it was mine. Got it home and since trans was shot and id never been in one, i figured i had nothing to lose by taking it apart. Got in there and found there was a 2" pin broken that connected your foot pedal to the valve for hyd flow direction for forward and reverse. I didnt have a pin, so i found a nail that would fit and cut it off the correct length and reassembled, ran it 7 yrs changing oil every yr. diesel yanmar engine. Mowed my yard of 8 acres, sold it after 7yrs for 13000

RE : BRAND NEW PICKUP TRUCK BEDS....
Company's & governments buy new trucks & yank off the bed & upfit
the truck with a flatbed, towbed, tank or whatever. The smart operators carefully
store the new bed so when the new truck becomes old, they can yank off the upfit
bed & slide another brand new truck under it. If they had any brains.

Wasn't there a buyer's premium? I have attended many auctions in Washington State. Most have a buyer's premium of 10 or 15 percent and State taxes. So if I buy a car for $3,000, I would end up paying an additional $450 for the premium and $345 for the 10 percent State sales tax for a total of $3,795.
