How to Test the Fridge Fan on a Samsung Refrigerator

  • In this video I show you how to remove and test the fan inside the refrigerator compartment on your Samsung Refrigerator.
If you have a fridge that is not getting cold, the fan could be the issue. This video will help you determine if the fan is bad and needs replaced or if the control board is the issue.
The refrigerator used here is a Samsung Bottom Freezer. This test will apply to Top Freezer Samsung Refrigerators as well.
The fridge compartment on this machine has it's own evaporator and fan to move air around, that is separate from the freezer section.
The resistance on the fan motor was about 160 Ohms. When I applied 120 volts AC to the motor the fan started spinning. This tells me the fan is good. If you applied the voltage to the fan and it did not spin, then the fan motor would be defective and need replaced.
If your fan was not working and it tested good, then the control board is defective and it would need replaced. There are relays on the control board that control all the functions of the refrigerator.

Okay, the fan works when I run power directly to it. Evidently it froze over enough to shut down the fan, but when I plug it back into the fridge, it is not kicking on yet. The temperature is in the 60;s. Does it not kick on until the fridge hits a certain temperature? What do you recommend testing next, and how do you test the defrosting coil or module. How do you test the fan relay? thanks

I have a situation where the fridge seems to be too cold, and it is on the same settings we've used for years. One of my questions was whether the fridge fan was running. I cut a square of toilet paper into ~1" strips, folded in half, and inserted into fan discharge vents inside at the top of fridge. Then I closed the door. I did this test several times, with and without the "fast Freeze" mode, and at a few different temperatures, and sure enough the tissue would be blown out when I expected it to. So now on to find why it's too cold...

Why does the side panels of this Samsung model #RB215LASH get hot, and is this normal?

    • @Your-Self
      @Your-Self 4 ปีที่แล้ว

Typically there is a hot refrigerant tube running around the freezer door to keep condensation away. So some panels should be warm while the compressor is running. If those panels are really hot to the touch, your compressor and condenser coil maybe not getting enough airflow and overheating. Make sure that the condenser fan behind the fridge is running together with the compressor.

    Hi Bill,
Great video's. Presenting problem: freezer works; no cooling in the fridge compartment. I will share my most recent experience in an attempt to solve the cooling problem. Solution: having watched several video's (your video's included) on TH-cam, I used my multimeter to test the pc main board. I ordered a new main control board. Installed board = still no cool in fridge. Then, I tested the evaporator fan motor. It works. So, I decided to buy a new evaporator fan motor (as a tech suggested this could be the problem). Installed the new fan motor. Talked with tech when fridge would still not cool. Previous, the tech was working from the wrong model. Today (with better service), the local tech asked me to remove the door switch (two prong). With this removed, the fridge fan now runs. Problem solved: faulty door switch.

Hey there can you tell us if we can fix a Samsung refrigerator RFG298? What's wrong? Well, the refrigerator lights are on & we think it is cooling. However, the front panel control panel lights stopped responding to the buttons. In other words the display has four numbers showing 88 88 the last 8 is flashing. If we hold any buttons down for 3 seconds, like the instructions say nothing happens. This display began doing this after we turned the circuit breakers on and off. Once the power came on the 88 88 display appeared and Samsung's Tech Support couldn't help us. Any ideas? Eugene Louie 408-202-3820. Any help would be appreciated. Something tells me the control board needs replacing. I was hoping one of your videos would cover this but apparently you don't have the same fridge.

+Eugene Louie Hi Eugene I have a different model but this happens frequently during power outages. Samsung customer service sucks big time. When mine displays 88 88 I press the top button on each side of the display AT THE SAME TIME which is the "Energy Save" on the left & the "Alarm/Lighting" on the right , for 10-15 seconds until you hear a beep and the display returns to normal. You may need to REPEAT this procedure of concurrently holding down the two buttons for 10-15 seconds. If you have separate buttons for Alarm and Lighting try each along with the Energy Save. Good luck.

Eugene Louie No problem. I think your model has separate Alarm and Lighting buttons and don't know if the procedure will work on yours but if I was to follow Samsung instructions my fridge would not have been reset and they would have me calling a "technician" who knows at what cost when pushing a few buttons did the trick. Some one may come along and be helped by your question in the future so all good!

HORRIBLE VIDEO. No warning that some Samsung fridges could be using 12v DC motors??? Thanks to your instructions I burned my motor. You should give warning to people about DC motors!

You are right! I just tested my fan motor with 120V, and smoked it. My question now: is the motor dead or still salvageable?

The video specifically applies to the RS267 in the title. Are you saying you have a 12 v dc fan motor in a Samsung RS267 ?

Followed your directions. Cut off an extension cord and tested the fan. And when I did it destroyed the fan. Went up in smoke.
