  • Dear friends
Time flies, it has been almost 4 months since I started posting videos on TH-cam. This is my 16th episode and I’m still collecting information doing research to showcase the best tasting food in PJ. I know very soon I’d run out of interesting food to make a decent video. That’s because I always offer some history background of the food I feature and sadly not all of them have a colorful past hence they won’t make compelling videos. I know some of you have asked me to showcase some of your favorite food but until and unless I get the relevant story, I can’t pursuit. Please bear with me and thanks for supporting my channel. Please continue to do so and also support our local street food. Don’t forget to leave your comments below. Thanks

Elmo, with your recommendation, we visited Peninsula again today! Yes, their Dim Sum (or Tim Sum) is great. we ordered, Pai Kwat, Fong Chow, Siew Mai, Yue Yuoen, Loh Pak Kow, Chue Cheong Fun and Pay Tan Saw Yoke Choke. All great taste except for the Siew Mai and Yue Yuoen. They're tasteless. The Choke is the typical Kwong Tong style Choke, so fine and smooth. The Pai Kwat is simply well done. Loh Pak Kow is large enough and we can taste the Loh Pak and the skin is crispy, portion is good. 120 bucks for the 2 of us. Very tasty and satisfying. Great recommendation Sir Elmo!

Grand Imperial and Canton-i, i would give it a skip. There are better ones in PJ....plethora of choices in Puchong, small outlets in SS2 and Sunway Mas and for upmarket with good quality - Copper Mansion. Cannot compare with Guangdong province and Hong Kong offerings but its the Malaysian version. Tang Room under Oriental Group have innovation but its not dim sum to die for. Exquisite would be Shang Palace - same consistency across all Shang-ri La properties but then they are not in PJ. For me, the benchmark is always the Har Gau - that defines the kung fu of the dim sum master. My humble opinion.

I am not sure what are the criteria for best dim sum. To me Key Hiong is very ordinary if you exclude their pau. The pau are not bad but the rest are below average including the lao mai Kai. Jin Xuan is crap. I can easily make a few that are much better than these: Kingdom Palace, Oriental Pavillion, Ming Room are much better.

@@malaysiafood328 That's why I asked what are the criteria. If you don't factor price, then you need to include many more expensive and hotel restaurants serving much better dim sum. Other than 3 I listed above, you have Xin Cuisine @concord, Fu Lai at Manjalala, Han Room at Garden, Elegant Inn, Chynna @KL Hilton, Li Yen @Ritz Carlton.
I agree with some of your assessments such as the Portuguese tarts at Foo Hing is one of the best ones around. But some on the list can't beat the more expensive ones unless you say best value for money. That said, I went to Key Hiong once and never eat there again but I do go to buy their pau every now and then.

Those living overseas better not watch Elmo’s videos. Can see cannot eat.
