I love you, man, but it is Warner BROTHERS. I'm 54 years old and I've never EVER heard anyone say it as 'Warner BROS'. Especially repeatedly. But your video about this awesome company is, as always, of very high quality and your professionalism is top-notch. I always enjoy the very thorough review of whatever company you are featuring. You obviously do your homework. I've always thought very highly of Warner Brothers because they are always looking to present something new and original. For decades and decades they brought original entertainment to the masses and the fact that so much of even their oldest productions have become absolute classics and must-see entertainment for the newest generation is a testament to how they think outside the box. WB is one of VERY few production companies that have so many legendary films, TV shows, and the stars that made them great consistently from every decade since their beginning. So many studios have come and gone during the WB MANY years of excellent entertainment. What other studio has been the producers of such legendary characters that they were able to open stores in malls that sold merchandise featuring those characters? Disney, and that's it. ONLY WB has given us both animated and live-action characters that are legendary even though those characters are 50 years old or more. It's stunning. Disney has done this to a certain degree, but it feels more forced and hyped. WB has given us Bugs Bunny and all the other associated characters and I never grow tired of watching those animated characters in excellent shorts that are the lynchpin of real laughs and totally relatable events in those shorts. Mel Blanc and the animators were absolute geniuses that came up with the most incredible laugh-a-second entertainment that any of us have enjoyed. NO ONE but Warner Brothers has done all of this and so much more in their MANY legendary films and TV shows. I think about what the world would be like if the Warner Brothers hadn't had an idea and gotten together to make some of the greatest entertainment productions ever made and I cringe at that thought. They changed the world of entertainment and left it much better than they found it. That's what it's all about. So I honor their names and lives in regard to their contribution to this complicated, if not sometimes disturbing, world that we all live in. I truly hope that WB continues to follow the path less traveled and not become complacent and unoriginal. But with their record, I dare say that they will continue to bring us the absolute best.
WB is the only name which made me excited when I saw movies randomly as a kid on TV and even now into adulthood. The brand name stands for something for me.
I share the exact sentiments myself, even though I've been having a love-hate relationship on the studio with its executive decisions, Warner Bros. is without a doubt one of the grandeur movie studios of all film history, with a sense of appeal that applies to all-ages without having to be a family brand. It has always stood for taking things with more ambition and not following a traditional "family formula" that Disney is known to have. Another thing that it's quite clear looking at their legendary history of TV shows, events and movies, is that it is well-known that WB does love the moviemaking business, the major craft in producing and making movies, something that's notable based on their history. Not all of their movies and series will be perfect, but the majority that stands out will always reflect on the greatness and appeal of Warner Bros. Pictures
DC Comics or DC Entertainment has a fascinating history of its own, especially given their recent woes at the hands of AT&T. I'd love to see a deep dive on them, specifically.
DC, Marvel, Image, Diamond, Valiant- all of those would make for great episodes for those not in the know already. Heck, an episode about Jim Shooter, the ultimate comic book company man would be great as well.
@@thaliabirrueta8456 X2 because of their history with the release of Action and Detective Comics, and their former names of All-American Comics and National Periodical Publications
I've always felt that more than any other major studio, Warner Bros. represents the best of American filmmaking. Not only did they give us The Jazz Singer, Casablanca and The Exorcist, but they also own most of the classic MGM film library. Back during the Golden Age of Hollywood, WB was second only to MGM in musicals--they distributed 42nd Street and the Gold Diggers series, and they also made the 1950s version of A Star is Born with Judy Garland (not to mention the various musicals Doris Day made with them). They're the only studio that has ever been able to compete on the same level as Disney in animation, between Looney Tunes, DC Comics, Animaniacs, Hanna-Barbera and Cartoon Network. Warner Bros. was also behind my two all-time favorite movies, Space Jam and Osmosis Jones, not In short, they've always been one of the leading studios in the kinds of films I like most. And best of all, they have by far the best record of any studio when it comes to preserving and restoring the films they own. I have almost nothing but crazy respect for them and I hope they remain an important part of the film industry for many years to come.
@@bullrun2772 Yes, they have made mistakes, just as every studio has. They're only human, after all. (Go ahead and stone me for suggesting that "corporations are people.")
Warner Bros. Will always be my favorite studio. Their animated movies have always been the best in my opinion (Iron Giant, Storks, Lego Movies, etc.) and of course they've got Looney Tunes, LOTR, and my personal favorite DC Comics. I'll take that over Disney every time.
Yeah they have pretty much become irrelevant anymore which is sad, I mean Warner bros.owns a ton of their classic library and they haven't made many movies in the last 25 yrs. NOW RISE AND FALL OF UNITED ARTISTS WOULD BE INTERESTING! it was founded by the stars because of the screwed up contracts film studios would have back in the Earl y days of film. And yes I know united artists is part of mgm!
@@ScrotieJohnson Actually, MGM is de facto United Artists; they are just a rubber stamp since they lost their own historic catalog in 1986 and they rely only in the UA library and its derivatives to survive, plus the libraries of Orion and American International.
@@radiotelefonia I knew much about this, but the ua early history is interesting because of the actor rights which if I remember correctly, is directly linked to jack Warner and his business practices.
@@radiotelefonia MGM owns it's films after 1986 and you have to give them credit for some smart mergers. Sad though MGM never seemed to attract the great talent after the 1960's that would have made them the success they were in the 1930's, 1940's and 1950's.
They also had one of the biggest record labels in the 80’s. Their record label was so big that they threatened MTV that if they didn’t play Prince’s videos along with other black artist they would pull all of their other artist from their platform. Then Epic did the same thing with MJ.
It’s amazing that Warner Brothers grew so large. I think AT&T took a dump on Warner Brothers. As a huge movie fan it’s sad to see how far Warner Brothers has fallen. Warner Brothers had Superman movies, the Matrix,Lethal Weapon, as well as Clint Eastwood movies. In the 90’s it seemed that Warner Brothers could do no wrong… Now they seem to be on life support!! It’s very sad to see
Hopefully better than how AT&T was running things. I think it's easy to be skeptical about Discovery because one can probably think "How can a mass media company that focus on reality-based and factual programming could enter into the entertainment show business?". But Discovery has a greater advantage because they have created their own content over the years, through their documentaries and their supernatural/crime reenactment TV series, which technically do count as an audiovisual medium just like movies. So, in a way, they can implement those abilities to their own advantage and hold on its own with WB.

It was also AOL who decided to close the brick and mortar stores. They thought they could make as much online. Now it's tough to find good quality WB merchandise

It's been years since I read the book, "An Empire of Their Own", which is about how various men of hardscrabble Jewish backgrounds (The Warners, Louis Mayer, Carl Laemmle, Harry Cohn, Jesse Lasky, Adolph Zukor & others) started or ran studios in the early years of Hollywood, but I recall in the Warners section that Jack Warner pulled a fast one on his brothers and took over the studio. Harry and the remaining brothers (Jack and Albert) agreed to sell their stakes in the business, which as the video alluded to, was struggling with the advent of TV in the 50s. What Harry and Albert didn't know is that behind their backs, Jack put together his own group to buy the studio with him running it as the sole head. By the time Harry and Albert caught wind of Jack's scheme, it was too late. Jack was considered the most uncouth and most loathed of all the brothers. I recall reading a part where one day, he walked into the animators office and caught the staff leering at the studio's starlets from the window. He promptly had the animators' office moved to a windowless warehouse or something like it.
It's jarring hearing Warner Brothers pronounced as 'Warner Bros' which I've never heard before. The 'bros.' is just an abbreviation for 'brothers' and not the way to say it.
I've done a couple Hollywood Studio Tours and I have to say this was the best one. I knew they had their hands on a lot but man they literally are a media conglomerate with content that has touched every multi-faceted human. It is really impressive and I really appreciate that they ACTUAL Warner Brothers have not been forgotten through all this. It's a really genuine story how they formed this iconic place. Ahhhh, Burbank!
Loved going to the Warner Bros. Store in NYC growing up. It was always so cool walking in there and staring up at so many familiar things! Superman, Bugs Bunny, the Wizard of Oz. It all seemed larger than life.
I've never heard Warner Brothers pronounced "Warner Bros" - initially I thought it was a joke but he kept saying it. Am I alone in that? Is that just what they are being called these days and I'm a generation behind? (Not complaining, I love all your work)
I am still hoping it was a joke, but might just be an honest mistake. The Company Man does excellent research, but if all of his sources used the abbreviation, he might think that's how it is supposed to be. I admit is was painful, but the video is top-notch othersise!
Unironically the most surprising thing to me is how long Warner Bros. and DC Comics were connected, and how it happened almost coincidentally rather than actively looking to put the two together.
As of July 6, 1984, after a series of unsuccessful bombs in the past few years...Warner Bros Pictures has brought their 11th logo with the classic WB shield under Warner Communications whose first film was "Gremlins," the second film was "Cannonball Run 2" opens on July 13. "Swing Shift" opens on July 20. "Electric Dreams" opens on August 3. Wolfgang Petersen's "The Neverending Story" opens on August 10. "Purple Rain" opens on September 14. "Cal" opens on September 21. "Greystoke" opens on September 28. "Tightrope" opens on October 5.
Thanks for another great video; there are so many other companies connected to it, it's incredible. I miss KidsWB, that block of animation was a lot of fun and made my days better. Casablanca is an awesome film and I love it.
The last homerun of Warners that I can recall as a company, was the launch of the warner channel. At least in South America, they showed reruns of Seinfeld and Friends... then they came up with Smallville... right before the arise of streaming services, it was probably the last tv channel that you could tune into and leave it on while you did something else.
Latin American right here as well, it definitely was a major homerun because it was the main outlet to showcase all of WB TV shows despite them being aired in different networks on the US
@@chaseman94 And they were the childhood of our grandparents, too! They might've seen Bugs Bunny cartoon shorts on film at their local movie theater way back in the 1930s all the way up to the introduction of (and mainstream adoption of) television in the 1950s.
Great video! Although I have to say, I'm 42 years old and I don't think I've ever heard Warner Brothers' name actually spoken as the abbreviated Warner "Bros." 😁
They haven't been their own company in decades and AT&T decide it was a media company instead of a telecommunications company when they bought them! Although, the merger of WarnerMedia with Discovery has me very intrigued. I'm not a fan of these mega mergers we have been seeing throughout the 21st century, but becoming the biggest in any way possible seems to be the strategy all companies seem to be pursuing even when the Venn diagram of these companies never comes together in anyway, but here we are in the streaming wars!

They also created Nickelodeon (grew out of Qube) and Oh, MTV ..

Hi Company Man, it would be both great and fitting if you did a follow-up video explaining the history of Discovery. Before now I never imagined they would have enough money to buy WB.
The AOL Time Warner deal also took WCW (World Championship Wrestling) of TV and lead to WWE to buying it. It was a huge change in the wrestling industry. Great video as always.
Warner Bros. has the best movies and properties of all time. Goodfellas, the Harry Potter series, Lord of the Rings series, Joker, Gone with the Wind, Casablanca, The Departed, The Shining, The Shawshank Redemption, I can literally go on forever.
Its also good to note that they are a big publisher in the gaming industry too! Owning highly rated studios like Netherrealm, Rocksteady, TT Games, etc. They made games like Mortal Kombat, Batman, the lego games, etc.
That was really informative. I always though the classic movie studios ended up in sunny California mostly to get away from an outrageously litigious Edison who sued them literally thousands of times in New Jersey because he was convinced that movie cameras, which he "acquired" the patent for, should only be used for Nickelodeons and nothing more. Oh, also you forgot about the Warner sister, she's right there at the end of the name, the Dot after Bros.
That's true. In the vast open spaces of LA, crews could get away from Edison's shakedown thugs. But an even bigger reason was the weather: LA is sunny almost every day, whereas NYC has New England-type winters. The main advantage to being in NYC was access to Broadway actors.

Do one on Viacom, also Warner Bros. success is based on their management, when the studio hires talented people they’re better than Disney! Also the AOL Time Warner merger is why they took a big hit until they hired people who knew about film and television, and not in web media!
Yes, and Disney's successes feel so forced and hyped. They cram their productions down our throat and keep on for decades. It gets so tiresome. Warner Brothers, on the other hand, feels original, interesting, and draws you in of your own accord. So many films and characters in the vast production vaults of WB never seem cookie-cutter or over-hyped. Bugs Bunny, for example, just draws you in naturally and the characters associated with him all do the same. In the WB feature films the characters do the same. No hype and juke is required to totally envelop you in the world of those characters. It is what Disney always claims they have cornered the market on, and that is 'magic'. Disney lives to call their films, theme parks, and characters 'magic', but, again, it feels so forced and overhyped. Warner Brothers is refreshing and evokes every emotion in their storytelling so easily. In my opinion, WB has Disney beat by a mile.
@@CivilEngineerWroxton yeah, WB has put out more original IPs than Disney in the past few years. I used to like Disney a decade ago, but they have put out nothing but sequels and live action remakes overall! @@CivilEngineerWroxton Agree. Warner Bros seems to actually care about it's history and legacy. Disney lately, not so much, especially with all the changes they made to their image and what they stand for.
Whether or not there is a grammar rule that dictates how to pronounce "brothers" when written abbreviated ("bros"), it's a proper name of a company which is and always has been pronounced BROTHERS. Do you think Jack would have EVER pronounced it "broze?" @companyman also pronounces Super Mario Bros as "broze" - u ok @companyman? 🤯
@@stepawayful Thank you - I was wondering about that too, though I have sometimes heard it pronounced "Bross", but I think that is usually an ironic pronunciation.
They also bought the TV production company Lorimar Productions. Lorimar produced hit shows like The Waltons, Dallas, Falcon Crest, Knots Landing, Family Matters, Full House, Step by Step, ThunderCats, Eight is Enough, and many more.
And we should all be glad of that. If there's any Hollywood studio that I would not want to see disappear, it would be Warners. I might say Disney except that they're so far removed from their former glory that I wouldn't be sad to see their older film and TV library sold to another company that would take better care of them. And Warner Bros. has really proven itself to be just one such studio. After acquiring the classic MGM film library they kept the original titles instead of plastering on their own (like Disney has often done over the years) and has painstakingly worked to restore them after MGM cast them aside and forgot about them (Gone With the Wind is a good example of this). More than any other major film studio, Warner Bros. truly are white hats in the restoration of classic films and giving them the respect they deserve.
And movies (silent movies or talkies..) were shot on FILM cameras, "video" cameras didn't exist before television, And video tape didn't exist before the 1950s. No one had or used "video" camera in "the early 1900s"
"Bros." was an abbreviation for the word "brothers". "bros" is now a modern era colloquialism for the word "brothers". The original motion picture company was typically referred to as "Warner Brothers". Interesting how the language has changed over the past century.

One thing I don’t think you mentioned was that Warner also founded Warner Music which is one of the largest music labels in the world and produces nearly 1/3 of music that’s being released today.
WarnerMedia and Discovery need to leverage the resurgence that they will gain from streaming in the near future to acquire Six Flags which they should be able to do at a favorable price due to the pandemic. This will create an ecosystem similar to that of Disney and Comcast so that they can better position themselves for the future.

ATT is behind in a few fronts bit with their moves ATT could be on track to gain alot from 2 two Spin off companies .

Warner BROTHERS. I know the logo says Bros. but no one at WB pronounces it that way.
It’s very sad to see
Crazy how much history this company has! I think the value that they provide with their movies is massive. Let's how it's going to be with Discovery.
