It was back in 1982. Jesus had touched Mylon's heart at a Second Chapter of Acts concert and he came back to his home church in Atlanta, GA to get out of the rock and roll world and, literally, clean up his act. For several years he just hung out at the church to get away from his old influences. Our pastor made Mylon a janitor so he would have something to do at the church. I was actually his janitorial "supervisor" during that time. One of my jobs at the church along with heading up the middle school youth ministry there. Mylon started hanging out and jamming with some of the guys there and playing on Monday Nights in the gym for the youth group. We had to drape the walls and ceiling of the gym with parachutes to keep the reverb down.....lol. Back then Mylon was still on what we called Mylon Standard Time, which was stay up all night and get up and come into the church in the afternoon. Rock and roll time. Back then I would sometimes drop by his house around midnight, because I knew he would still be up, just to keep him company and encouage him in his new life in the Lord. One night he really opened up to me about what his life had been like when he was heavy in the rock scene.....all of the loneliness and emptiness that that was the price of the fame and adulation of being a rock star. Even though I had nothing in common with Mylon in that regard, the feelings he shared with me resonated deeply inside. Driving home from his house about 3:00 that morning two lines kept running through my mind that seemed to capture what Mylon had shared....."My mind has been a battlefield where many wars were fought. My soul has been a market place where others sold and bought." I keep those two lines in my head until I got home and more words just put themselves down on the paper in just a space of no more than 10 minutes....."But through the lonely wasted years, there's one who knew my hidden fears, and noticed the unnoticed tears, now my heart belongs to Him. No one ever touched my heart the way that Jesus did. No one knew the place to start to find the pain I'd hid. But love can see where friends are blind; when lovers leave love stays behind...God is love and His love is mine, now my heart belongs to Him." When I saw Mylon a few days later I thanked him for sharing so intimately with me about his life, and I gave him the words I had written, just to let him know the impression what he shared had made on me. A few months later Mylon came up to me and gave me an application to fill out. When I asked him what it was for he said I had to join BMI as a songwriter because he had recorded my song. I said, "what song???" He said he had taken the "killer words" I had given him and put them to music. It became the single released from his second album "More" and went on to become his first Top 10 hit on the Contemporary Christian Music chart. What would a thunkit, that Mylon would make a simple middle school youth minister a BMI songwriter.....lol. But I have to say that being part of those early years with Mylon before God took his talents and used them to bless the world.....literally.....was one of the greatest blessings of my life. We still stay in touch periodically. He is truly one of the most amazing men of God that I have had the privilege of ever knowing. I still pray for him, and that God will just continue to use him in the mighty way that He has.
WOW. This song and Myron singing with such depth of soul and conviction its by far one of . . . . Its hard to explain . . . . broken to seeing, becoming...... born anew. Hmmmmm
Unbelievable!!!! That’s my favorite song. Tell me there’s no God. Perfect proof how he puts people together to show he’s real, if we’d just look, thank you for this beautiful song.
43 years of Bliss with the lover of my soul, Jesus, Jesus, Jesus!!! and still going strong at 70, hit the ground running to tell others of the grace He gives, salvation, eternal life that begins at that moment. Praise the Lord
Great song selection 👍 I'd add Degarmo and Key, 2nd Chapter of Acts, Phil Keaggy, Randy Stonehill and Larry Norman 👍 I used to go to church with Mylon back in the day. I talked to him many times while he was mopping the floor at Mount Paren. Keep Good music in your heart 🙏 Viva Cristo Rey 💪🙏
this man amazes me... not only is he anointed of God to evangelize and a musical genius, he is one of the most handsome men i have ever seen…kudos to you and love you Mylon!
I remember during Mylon LeFevre and Broken Heart's set at AtlantaFest in 1988 where they attempted to open with 'Trains Up In The Sky'. They tried twice and each time they tried to play the song, they tripped the stage power breakers. Finally, the event stagehands routed power from Mylon's tour bus to the stage for their equipment. When the lights came back up for a third time, Mylon said that 'god didn't want them to play that song'. I remember like it happened last week and that was 35 years ago. R.I.P. Mylon LeFevre.,............sadly,..........after Mylon died, ....he went no further than you and I are going as I am a proud Athiest again. Religion is a cute and fun idea for a few years, however, the reality is closer to home and more simple. There is no god, and never was.
@xembryo I wish there was music like this today in the Christian world. I think the reason Mylon has such great music is because he had to come from pain and suffering to arrive at this "heart-felt" music and lyrics.Don't you Think?
@BieNumber1 Yes, his experiences mixed with his God-given talent made him such a great singer/musician/song writer. Margaret Becker was also great at putting her shortcomings into her music as the heart-felt struggle between flesh and spirit.
Rest in peace with our Heavenly Father. Your ministry put this kid on the right track!

That's a great story, William. I've heard Mylon tell about his days as a church janitor (driving to work in a fancy sports car). What anointed lyrics!

I am blown away
My heart belongs to Jesus, too! Thank you for your faithfulness to the Gospel and to Him!
