ADJUSTABLE GRIP HITCH: A Slipped Method for Controlling Tension in a Rope!

  • In this episode, I'll show you how to tie an extremely useful knot: the ADJUSTABLE GRIP HITCH! This knot is best tied in smaller diameter cordage as it doesn't hold its shape very well in larger rope. This knot is used in situations where a tensioned line will need to be adjusted in length periodically. This knot effectively functions as a friction hitch and using it for tent guy lines is a popular use. This knot should NOT be used for life supporting applications such as for climbing. Finally, at the final step for tying it, a bight (loop) can be used to form a slipped version of the knot; just pull on the end and it will release the hitch.
