Luckily you do not need expensive gear to take great photos. What a your camera setup for birds and wildlife?

My setup is z8+800 mm pf, in my opinion skills are more important but good gear gives you higher chances to get great photo.

The alarm at 5:03 freaked me out for a short amount of time 😅 I was so sure it is a sound in my apartment and not from the speakers haha

According to photographylife's testing, with the 2x TC (at 1200mm) it's still about as sharp, as the excellent 180-600 at 600mm. If image quality is all you care about, this is it.
For me personally, 800 PF all day. Just super light and also very sharp.

Sounds like an awesome lens! These lenses with the integrated 1.4x TCs are just magic - such a game changer to be able to add or remove it instantly! I have the 400mm f/2.8 TC and for me, I think that is the ideal lens so I am very happy :)

Just found your channel. I've had my 600TC since June of 2023. I've had carried it through Costa Rica and Ecuador and there isn't a better lens, and the cuddle factor is very high ;) Which backpack did you upgrade to if I may ask. Thanks.

    Ciao Trond.
When I started my bird photography experience in 2021 my first lens was the Sigma sport 500 f4 , a heavy weight lens with beautiful optic.
After some money savings I moved to the nikon 600 f4 E FL , pratically same weight but better match for my nikon's camera.
Most of the times, the tc1.4 was on it, so when the Z800 pf was available, I moved with it.
I have to be honest: I love it, especially for that 2.2kg weight in a superb optic. Finally I can do panning in flight handheld without risk my back (I'm 53 years old).
But, because I'm one of those person that love the "feeling" that a lens/camera gives, I miss the charachter of my (ex) 600. Even if the 800 is beautiful, but is not the 600.
    The Question is:
Because you come from the 500 and 600 F mount , that in my opinion were magic and dreamy, do you have the same magic character with the new 600TC?
Or is just a "perfect tool" for this hobby. And I'm talking about your "feeling" hoping that you understand what I mean :)
Looking forward for your answer. Meantime ciao

I've come to believe that a fixed focal length "prime" lens is just too restrictive. I feel like I've done just about all I can with my 800 F11's. My subjects might be tiny, or they might be big, and they might show up 15ft from me.... or 50ft. I believe that the Canon RF 200-800 is the best lens on the market, for birding, by any company. They just need to make the darn things more available ! Urggg,...
As for bodies, for the small, often skittish birds that I chase, I need the 60% additional reach of an APS-C body. So for now, in spite of all its weaknesses, and their are several, the R7 is not just my best choice... It's my "only" choice. I'm very hopeful that the R7 Mk II addresses most / all of those weaknesses.
I guess if I had to switch brands, the Olympus OM 1 + the 150-600 (300-1200) might be my next choice. Seen some fine stuff out of that combo, too.

Oh, I dream one day of having one of those lenses. For now I have to settle for my basic 300mm hehe. Great video. Greetings

No perfect lens but I am enjoying my latest purchase the Sony 300mm with TC's . A light weight 420mm f4 & a light 600mm f5.6. Not cheap but happy days 🙂

I'm still working with the 600f4G for wildlife photography. Would love to have the 600f4TC one day.

I think that the perfect lens is a big telephoto that is given to you ! What could be better than free? I am still using the original Canon 600 EF IS. Can't afford an extra 13k $$$. Love your content.

Я ради интереса посчитал, что при моём заработке мне нужно работать 19 лет, чтобы накопить на такой объектив. Рад, что есть фотографы, которые могут приобрести ткую технику.😉👍 я из России👋

It is an expencive lens indeed. But luckily you can take great pictures with cheaper equipment.

Hi, what focal length you use more 600 mm or 840 mm?

Bought this lens two months ago and have been having mixed feelings about its AF performance. I think it’s more to do with the body which is Z9 in my case. I found Eye AF performance unreliable and AF tracking speed and accuracy, regardless of AF Area chosen, significantly worse than my Canon counterparts (R3 & RF800mm f/5.6L IS USM). Though when it nails focus images are sharp and bokeh is pleasing. It’s surely much more handy using this lens without the need of attaching and detaching teleconverters during actions. Not sure if it’s a keeper for me long-term.

The only drawback to a built in TC is that, even if you are using the lens at its prime focal length, the light has to pass through many extra optical elements, slightly degrading the image. For the algorithm.
