Welcome Back to Another BobBlast!
This BobBlast is about practicing each design composition I use as a back-bone structure in my paintings. I have always thought if you paint a weak structure, the painting falls apart and tumbles down.
In this demonstration, I start with twelve squares of watercolor paper, black tissue paper, plus gel medium as my adhesive. They are not meant to be finished pieces at this point. They are reminders of the structure, using pure graphic design to suggest the actual composition.
I keep these twelve composition samples in my studio as a reminder and to keep me on track and focused to use ONLY ONE composition throughout my painting time. This "practice" affords me plenty of fun, creative time under the "guidance" of a strong back-bone structure.
As a reminder - when I start a painting I concentrate on what I refer to as the Five Cs - Composition is just one part of the whole!
5 Cs:
1 - Content (Intention, Big Idea)
2 - Composition
3 - Color Combination
4 - Commitment
5 - Continuing the Series

Acrylic gel medium changed my life, Bob.. I did mixxed media collaging 20+years ago..aquired and tried every household, hardware, office supply adhesive i found, never satisfied and would end up all my materials sticking to ME mostly!! It was frustrating and messy. The gel medium grabs the materials holds them allows me to slather and seal..dries clear.. I have had much cleaner efficient results. Your influence, Bob! But

This don't contain cubism or fauvism etc etc etc and is so limited and restricted that is pointless . For example let's take the cross or cruciform example . Knowing that is a cross won't benefit me with any power in creating a good painting .I watched some abstract modern paintings and I can't include them in any of your schemes....All I get is a hint that maybe is a cruciform combined with other style ..etc . But some will go right in your scheme verticals looking good .
Are you confusing painting style options with composition options? Would you say painting style is the same thing as composition ? This does not seem correct. Look again. Frankly, I see so many historic paintings that have lousy composition. I wonder how these are even famous paintings. I also see many contemporary paintings, of any painting style, with little composition considerations.
