My wife was native American (Chemehuevi) and she passed from covid in 2021. Being white I've never been to a native American funeral before. It petty much goes from sundown to sun up the next morning. Bird singers sing salt songs all night long with the songs getting faster and faster as the night goes on. Her clothes were paraded around her coffin by her relatives then burned at sunrise to show the soul the leaving of the physical world into the spiritual world. Beautiful service of love and respect.
Thank you for posting Chief Oliver Red Clouds funeral day video. I had the great pleasure of meeting him back in late 1960. He was a patient at Garfield hospital where my mother worked in the Hemodialysis section as a nurse. One day she came home and asked me if I would like to meet him and I jumped at the chance, I was around 11 years old at the time and that one visit turned into 3 separate 4 hour visits with him where he shared stories about his youth with me and we would just sit and talk.
Wow, those drummers have some serious talent. My dad left to the spirit world on my birthday back on February 10th. The drummers that sang his honor songs and all the rest were fantastic, too. But I have serious chills from their voices in this video! I can feel their love and pain all in one. Just wonderful singers, period 👌 I am so sorry for all your losses as well.
Superbly executed! I’m convinced there’s a clear, evident and insuperable greatness that has marked our Native American brothers and sisters, and unfortunately it is the very same greatness of race and culture that has inspired the many people in charge of the extinction of such incredible people!
I’ve only ever heard funeral drums once since I’m not really associative with Native American Stuff like that… Still it caused me to start balling … and I didn’t even know the guy.., like at all … or anyone at the funeral for that matter besides my mother ! The drums if so powerful in person. Hearing it in a video is a poor facsimile of what it is really like. The drum beats in your soul and causes it to vibrate or something ….
He was an AMAZING man and although I'm 55 years old now I will never him or his words. He offered me lessons in life through his recalling his missteps in his youth. I have never forgotten the fact (Please take this as it's offered) that he didn't hate me or despise because I was a little white kid from Los Angeles but instead treated me as one of his own. He taught me life lesson's that I still carry with me to this day. He will be missed. RIP Chief
now he is free, strong connection to a wonderful man, who did always speak for freedom and rights the lands did and always belong to the native of this land my sincere respect for this man who stands for freedom and rights we are all born free

He was called Oliver not Russell. He was a great speaker, but sadly most of his people don't speak their language. I had the honour of speaking with him once - in English at the Porcupine wacipi, and hearing him speak in Lakota at the Oglala Nation wacipi.

Why doesn't someone In Congress pass a bill for (Native American Day) to honor all the Natives. This would be similar to blacks and Martin Luther king day. My question is why me being part Cherokee.
There is an entire month, November, dedicated to Native American Indians....and Thanksgiving, plus no more Columbus Day it's now Native American Indigenous peoples day as of 2019!
@@chordsofgratitude2073 you're right and I can't speak for your area of the country but on the south east coast 99% of the Non-NATIVE AMERICAN communities don't know about this because it's not advertised by the news media like black and hispanic history months which is probably why Elizabeth Williamson doesn't seem to know about November being NATIVE AMERICAN HISTORY MONTH . I've been trying for years to get TV stations in my area to give us , NATIVE AMERICANS > equal < advertising to what they give blacks and hispanics during their history months without any luck ! I guess you only get EQUALITY & INCLUSIVENESS by the TV stations and other news media if you're black and hispanic .
@BrieAnne Teylar, the east coast was the original 13 colonies....many private treaties exist with families and native tribes. They pre-existed the founding of America and are still enforceable today.
@@chordsofgratitude2073 I'm well aware of this . Look up Lumbee Indians of NC . They ran the Klan out of Robeson county ,NC back in the 50s if I remember correctly . They deserve to be nominated for a NOBLE PEACE PRIZE a lot more than blm does , but that's just my opinion .
Why is the President Triump tking Our Indian's land I'm upset of this cuz I myself is mixed Indian Cherokee & black foot & they have already took so much from us... 😐😓
