Best G3 lineup ever. Their styles are so different, yet their chemistry is unmatched. All of them were at their absolute peak at this point in their careers and you can hear it.
I couldn't agree more, BUT... Joe and Steve were bad mouthing Eric after he left: for arguably not being an energetic performer and not willing to hang out with them backstage. Lost their best guy!
@@martimdesouzajunior7585 I mean, you can't turn obviously quiet and low-key type of guy into a rock star per demand... I used to perceive Eric as the least interesting one in that G3 lineup, mainly due to his quiet demeanor and non-assertive playing style. Now, many years and many albums later, I find him to be the best one out of three and one of my absolute favorite players in general. His glassy clean sound is unmatched, and his creamy distorded sound is hevenly. And on top of ll that, he can also sing. What a musician!
I love watching Eric just sitting back being as cool as you like. Then just kicking out some raw blues to just say "chaps, that's how it's done haha". Seriously though I love all these players.
I've not listened to much of these artists before. But EJ's 'less is more' was head and shoulders above the other two, especially for a blues song like this
@@jarrodgeikie870 you may think so but if you ask the other two, they will tell you, Eric is the one carrying them. They know they can’t hold his jock. And if you’ve ever listened to any of their interviews, they both say it as a matter of fact, they have even walked off stage because they couldn’t keep up. Eric can do them both but they cannot do Eric. His level of respect is unmatched and they will tell it to your face. Ask me how I know.
I always wondered why Eric’s songs were different in the DVD than the CD. My guess was to show a combination of 3 songs from his newest record, Venus isle at the time. That’s just my theory
melted that CD from constant use back in the late '90s. such nostalgia! (i thought back then after 10 years of practice i'll be able to play those solos. now i'm a lawyer 😂)
I remember back in the mid 90's I seen this version of G3 in Houston Texas at the Cynthia Woods Mitchell pavilion. An outside arena atmosphere. I enjoyed myself so much that I will never ever forget that concert. And these were three of my all time favorite guitar artists. Smoking Joe Satriani, Mr. Steve Vai, and lastly but not least Mr. Eric Johnson. Eric Johnson is from Austin Texas which is about an hour and a half or so drive from Houston, my birth place and current home town city. Thanks for the memories 😊😊😊
My favorite guitar heroes on earth ! I love how it starts at 0:14 Satch face when the harmonic rises as a surprise !!!! Maybe he thinks « oh god I thought I would never reach it, but finally it looks f***king good !!!!!!!!! »
Wow, i remember that was the first time I heard about G3, back in 1999. And Eric Johnson, man... I didnt even know who's this quiet-modest guy with red big-old Gibson in the middle of flashy Satriani and Vai 🤣🤣🤣
I saw & reviewed G3 (Vai, Petrucci, Satriani) at Melbourne's Palais Theatre a few years back. An awesome night of guitar mastery. Given where we're at right now, I count myself fortunate indeed to have witnessed such an impressive musical display.
Great balance between the three of them and a really functioning sound mix. And three of the nicest guys in modern music...which is also a point worth mentioning in these troubled times. Do you think there is something in their backgrounds, a philosophy or belief even, which links them and their characters?
I like to look at it ....the 3. Dualing masters of guitar . All 3 sparing guitars not blocking but each taking a turn to shoot saying let's see what your guitar got. Each turn forcing the next guitar master to raise it a notch tell all three are feeding off each other. One man's take on the force of G3.
Don't forget Leon Russell who wrote the song for Freddie. "From his 1971 record, "Getting Ready," which was largely written and produced by Leon Russell and features Duck Dunn on bass. Russell wrote "Going Down," as part of an attempt to introduce Freddie to more of a "rock audience" through this record."
Great cover on a great song .For technical ability ,these guys have got it in spades . If anyone is interested in hearing a fast rockin version of this song listen to' Rose Tattoo going down live' with Billy Thorpe. It's an absolute masterpiece of live music.
I happen to be an EJ guy when it comes to soloing. Just so damn artistic and tasteful. Not taking anything way from Satch or Vai, obviously monsters. EJ just is a poet and takes them to school.
I personally like Satch the best in this tune and EJ is definitely not "taking them to school" as you put it. In fact he's actually playing a lot of Clapton licks in his solo.
Well I'm going down Down, down, down, down, down I'm going down Down, down, down, down, down I've got my head out the window And my big feet on the ground She's gone Gone, gone, gone, gone, gone She's gone Gone, gone, gone, gone, gone I've got my head out the window And my big feet on the ground So I'm going down Down, down, down, down, down I'm going down, down, down, down, down Down, yes I am I've got my head out the window And my big feet on the ground
Yeaaaaaaaah, finally you uploaded!!! Been waiting for this till Sony released VHS/DVD with 1997 G3 tour :) One of my fav performances :) \m/ Cool ! Cheers from Armenia, Joe!
Call me oldfashioned but erics old pan throws out far the best sound....the guy obviously uses the headphones to prevent himself from ending up deaf.....i love each note he plays.

I used to have this awesome G3 cassette. Satriani, Vai n EJ. Really awesome live instrumental songs. Miss this era...
I always wondered why Eric’s songs were different in the DVD than the CD. My guess was to show a combination of 3 songs from his newest record, Venus isle at the time. That’s just my theory
Me too I was listening to cassette and later when it was broken I bought cd. Love that album!

2:49 Amazing harmony lead... WOW! I love guitars...
Word.
All three of these guys are aliens. Just amazing musicianship. I love EJ’s rhythm playing on this. All those years playing with SRV shining through.
Many guitar greats cover this song. Nothing beats the original Freddy King version.
You said it. Everyone wants to do too much, and it's not necessary.
Check out the Joe Bonamassa version of this song. Off the Charts.
Fine selection, excellent cover!
Joe Bonamassa has the best version. And I love Freddie King so much.
The original is a master class in guitar freddie is smoother cleaner louder without trying
You just can’t fuck with it what an awesome song for legends to play to a legend I mean wow Freddie is awesome and they knew it
Eric is so humble, he looks like a session guy
I'm in heaven when I listen to the music these 3 created together. All of their covers are so good!

Great to see this again, finally. Always loved the finale during this initial G3 tour. Saw it in several cities. Thanks Joe!
I love this song but... because the bassist, truly genius!
Just in case you don’t know him (the bass player).. it’s Stu Hamm.

Care Who?
Gotta say he blew me away when I saw him last. Leslie West and Mountain was the opening act. Extremely cool
This is a Freddie King blues song dating back to the early 70's.
1968, I was a snot nosed wanta be drummer, used tunes like this to learn how to hit my drums hard. Crazed Marine
a band called moloch originally made it,apparently..it s all good

The greatest version I´ve ever heard of... EJ, JS and SV are awesome in this video...
Brings me back to Jeff Becks version. Just awesome.
📐Satriani e Vai..... 🇮🇹 Italian Pride
Remember this tour likeit was yesterday. Both Joe and Eric was good but Steve was AWESOME.
Wtf was that my mind is blown greatest version of this song I've ever heard ❤

EJ & Timmons were born to be in this kind of jamming ain’t it?
JS, EJ, Timmons would make hella G3
I personally like Satch the best in this tune and EJ is definitely not "taking them to school" as you put it. In fact he's actually playing a lot of Clapton licks in his solo.
No sunglasses, incessant mugging or perm either. He's by far the coolest of the three by simply not trying.
I always love these guys But my favorite has always been SRV doing this song.
Joe Satriani makes it look so easy. He’s a killer guitarist.
Inspiring ... I can't even wait to get the chance to restart playing guitar. Just some work, some work, before that...
Que bestias dios mio!!! Maquinas
Joe knows how to make that guitar squeal like Ned Beatty huh?
Miss this one, please do again with EJ
Amazing vocals.
KILLER VERSION!
EJ clearly the most comfortable in this situation. He’s playing a real guitar and using no bs licks. Those two other guys see clearly lost.
I was at one of these first G3's. Epic!
Just Amazing !!!
Turn your volume up mate !
