I'm in my early 40's and I've gone cross country from Miami to Sacramento (about 3200 miles) and vice versa several times by car and bus, and it's an experience that every American should try to have at least once in the life. It sucks that you couldn't finish it what was truly the most unique way. My hats off to you at least you tried to do something so few are willing try in the comforts of a modern car. It would be cool to see how you rigged up the generator.

Typical southwestern Americans. Had he taken Hwy 2 in the northern part of the U.S., he wouldn't have had any problems with police, especially through Montana where it is perfectly legal to do what he did on any of the highways or freeways. Freezing cold this time of year but he'd have nearly gone across the entire U.S. on that stretch of highway!

I don’t understand why he can’t drive it in a highway. Interstate absolutely not. But you can ride your bicycle on highways. Next time slap a slow moving vehicle sign on it and say it’s an agricultural scooter and you’ll be just fine!

On those desert roads what he was doing was really dangerous. Especially at night. Many car and truck drivers are so bored by the monotony of roads that he could easily have been plowed into by an inattentive driver. People who called the police were likely concerned that some disabled guy was going to be killed. They were likely looking out for him and not calling to complain.
Maybe they were worried incase he got squashed by a passing truck.

Thanks, from Canada, for taking us on your journey. I thought about doing something similar, but not for recreation. With the crazy time we're in, we may see roving bands of high tech homeless people crossing the country; mad Max with mobility scooters; forced to own nothing, and be happy.
