I've marched behind a Royal Marine band many a time and the feeling is absolutely exhilarating. Hearts of Oak is what we march to on our passing out parade (mine 1980) and the sound of that march inspired me throughout my career and still moves me today. A salute to our brothers in arms across the Atlantic.
The Royal Marines are a fantastic band and those drummers marvelous! Would have been an excellent video with a better wind muffler, the wind blasts are annoying!
Great job, despite have only 24 musicians that day. Have seen them numerous times when their US tours brings them to NYC. Excellent musicianship and marching. Looking forward to seeing them tomorrow afternoon at Lehman College, Bronx, NY. By the way - I can'y resist this comment and don't know how else to say it: Some of the USNA cadets are quite short.
No, the US have a tendency to put in double the required number of drums, then add a few more for good measure, leading to drowning of the actual music.
Good to see The United Kingdom exemplifying our Union! This was an absolutely great way to do it. I’m sure Washington is rolling in his grave but proud of if as far as our status as allies go!
Karen Fredericks 😱 I didn’t know that! I guess it’s a sight to see the teeth of the most treasonous man in British history! A hero in American history!😂
Indeed he was and a great soldier & statesman too; he would’ve known how formidable the “Dynamic Duo (+ the Commonwealth Mob)” would be in making this world a little more free.
It isn't the Scots HM Royal Marine Band it is the Band of Her Majesty's Royal Marines Scotland. There are five Royal Marine Bands and they are named according to where they are based. Scotland, Plymouth, CTCRM Lympstone, Collingwood and Portsmouth. The Portsmouth Band are known as the Royal Band and wear the Royal Band shoulder flash, the only band to do so.
When John J. Pershing was in Europe during the First World War, he was so impressed by the bands there that he strived to emulate them back in the States. This is why all Drum Majors in the United States Armed Forces wear bearskins.
They are not the Scots HM Royal Marine Band. They are HM Royal Marine Band, Scotland. They are not Scottish. RM Bands are named according to where they are based.
Why were the Royals here? Probably for a number of things. First of all they speak English. Second, The US Marines were founded in lieu of the Royal Marines. Third In spite of media and PC, Diversity, and Multi Culture folks, we still have a special relationship with the UK, lit us say more than we do with Brazil. And folks here still go to London more than they do Rio.
The Drum Major is in the United States Marine Corps who wore bearskin caps in the 1820s - copied from the British - who in turn copied them from the French after Waterloo. There are many instances of countries copying others depending on which Army is in 'vogue' - e.g. in the 1860s the British copied the French style shako - then adopted their own version of the Prussian pickelhaube, which some British regimental bands wear to this day!
Not a Scots RM Band, of course, but the Band of the Royal Marines based in Scotland. Looking at the US Naval cadets, I imagine they are early in their training, and haven't done much foot drill yet.

Royal Marines best in the world

HM Jollies
Semper Fidelis written by none other than John Phillip Sousa
HM Jollies
HM Jollies - Vivian Dunn, unless I am mistaken
Alastair Smith Kenneth J. Alford was the composer
What dose USNA mean?
It dose (sic) mean nuttin.
I guess United States Naval Academy

A LESSON OF STYLE. GOOD LORD, the yankees still have to learn a lot.
Moron! They look no better, no worse than the D&B Corps!
@pcsboado foot drill always counts
shame that the video has such poor sound
Shame about the wind
Too many beans for breakfast.

We have a set of his wooden teeth in London and we are not giving them back😆

@@michaelc9810 hardly the most treasonous, oliver Cromwell without a doubt

Word.
I'm proud to say that there is a Royal Marines band Plymouth 👍
That must have been the best lunch ever!

Pershing? Not Sousa?
Hearts of Oak, Know im partial but for me its the best marching music in the world and Anchors Away a close second.
Heart of Oak

And why the constant cuts away? It really downplays the work of a great band.
Because the US Navy booked them. Probably wanted showing how to do it right ;-)
we didn't copy them , we took them from dead french soldiers.
USNA means United States Naval Academy

How's it politically correct having our band at your navy training academy?
@cabovercmk And I don't know why US Tourists to the UK bother to look at Guards at Palaces... total nonsense! Right?
@@SaltiDawg2008 to show yanks hows its done ok
Nice to see them having a walk before lunch !!
The best ;)
I love the fact they played Heart of Oak in the very heart of the US Navy, still think it sounds 100x better than Anchors Aweigh.
Amen!
Nope, the Americans. It's not as noticeable with the proper Military bands, but they do have a higher ratio of drums in their bands.
What's the name of the slow march played by the Royal Marines Band?
Royal Marines are simply the best band second to none
Very good !

the US army full dress uniforms post Franco -Prussian war also included the spiked helmet , similar to the British home pattern helmet you mentioned .
The British didn't copy them. We stole them off dead French soldiers.
And life on the Ocean Wave as well! All that's missing is Rule Britannia!
One needs ships for that .and noo too many left in the RN now, so one should keep ones mouth shut , Just a Scot's thought .
Didn't you Americans have a revolution to get rid of the British?
What happened?
@El Bearsidente Moron!
This is a daily noon formation at a college that happens to be a naval academy at the same time. Foot drills don't count that much.
It shows.
US Band getting in the way of the Royal Marines again. They do tend to overdo the drum line ever so slightly, bless their hearts.
The Royal marines look like robots!
@@atreyuoscroft7382 i think the comenter was commenting on hoe well diceplined the RM band is
You mean there all in step
The Royal Marines over do the drum line?
clarkiiboii09 Hell no, they are one the best corps of drums in the world!
