    Joan was the winner by far. I love robin, he came in with a different energy, more gentle mocking and joking and that was fun to listen to, but she came in aiming for the THROAT of everyone, tore out said throat then took turns crappin down every windpipe. That was the Queen of Mean right there.

    Fun Fact: The Rap Battle was originally going to end with Joan Rivers. However, Patreon members and the like were kind of insistent for the ERB crew to add Robin Williams into the battle when they heard it was a battle of the comedians. The last minute addition is really showing because, despite my admiration for Williams, his verse doesn’t hit anywhere near as hard as Rivers did.

    • @SmaugUKA
      @SmaugUKA 2 ปีที่แล้ว +211

      They set Robin up specifically to add some humor into the whole thing. He starts by being in the Lamp, comes out like the Genie and even mentions Comic Relief. (A Telethon done by comedians where the proceeds went towards a children's charity.) He was there to be lighthearted and jokey which is both a complimentary pairing to Joan's thrashing as well as better fits Robin's character than being another abrasive person following Joan.

    What was great about this, is that they really worked their comedy styles into their rap styles. Carlin was just throwing out line after line after line. Pryor was all about swag and style, Joan was WWE ruthless aggression, and Williams was comedians on speed, moving from topic to topic w/next to no setup. Joan was winning this from the start, but they did a great job w/all 4.

      @@pdragon619 While Robin Williams’ death was covered by traditional and social media from a depressed comedian standpoint, which is an important conversation to have to be sure, what was not covered is that he actually did it because he was diagnosed with a terrible neurodegenerative disease and did not want to put his wife through looking after him especially after his mind would have started to deteriorate. With that as his actual reason, I respect his decision and think setting oneself free is a good way to put it.

    • @pdragon619
      @pdragon619 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@hakairyu1 No he wasn't, he was diagnosed with Parkinson's, the degenerative disease wasn't discovered until after his death, and no suicide note was found that would have given his motivation for it. So you're wrong on both accounts.
      Referring to suicide as "freeing yourself" is a terrible way to glorify taking your own life, and lending that kind of poeticism to it does way more harm than good.

    I think a lot of disses in this battle didn't work because the comics were often self aware enough to take all the blow beforehand. For example, Pryor mentions his hair fire before Robin does. Joan mentions her own plastic surgery before Robin did. George Carlin was the type of man who gave no shits about his haircut or whatever, so all the punches at Carlin being old and raggedy were weak as hell. Those punches would only work of George Carlin had the opposite personality and was self-conscious about growing old. Pryor did very little punching at all. Joan is the only one with good punches in this one IMO.
