The Yuca Plantain masque is my current favorite shea moisture product. I enjoy the entire Superfruit complex multivitamin line, except for the leave in conditioner. I like the JBCO line, too.
It surprised me that in many products of shea moisture are silicone free. But the line, that says silicone free contains polyquaterium 7. It is a silicone substitute, but cheaper. It is even worse for your hair!

This is amazing! I struggled for a long time. This is better then struggling. They should pay you for this. It’s their job. But I don’t think they will. Thank you!!!
I do wonder why some brands have an extreme amount of products and still say that its for ALL hair types when it really isn’t....you statement on companies making you wonder if they are really out to get your money, is spot on. THANK YOU so much for not only taking the time in doing the research, but actually posting this video.
Right!! Like how and why would you develop ALL these lines and not tell us CLEARLY the point of them?? Happy to have cracked the code somewhat and be of help!
To be honest I still had my transitioning hair so now that I have a huge shrinkage I kind of feel what everybody was saying. Not going to fight it but it is what it is
I know this is old but wow, it’s so helpful!! I haven’t tried Shea Moisture because I’ve heard they are for Type 3-4 hair types and will not work for me. It’s nice to know they have so many options. And I agree, they should make it more clear which hair types their products are for.
This was amazing! I've used / currently use some Shea Moisture products and love them but I've always felt overwhelmed with navigating all of the lines and this clears up so much. Thank you so so much and I can't wait to watch more of your videos xx
OMG..YOU HAVE NO IDEA HOW MUCH YOU JUST HELPED ME. I JUST LEARNED ABOUT HAVING LOW POROSITY AND 3A-3C HAIR. I PURCHASED THE JAMAICAN BLACK CASTOR OIL SHAMPOO AND LEAVE-IN-CONDITIONER. IT WAS BRILLIANT TO PUT A VIDEO OUT SHOWING WHICH PRODUCTS ARE GOOD FOR DIFFERENT HAIR TYPES..YAH BLESS YOU QUEEN!!👏🏿👏🏿👍🏿👍🏿💃🏿💃🏿💖💖
I'm Halfway through this video and I must say, you deserve all the views in the world for the amount of effort and research you put into this video. Also the fact that you did it in English and French is amazing. Thank you! 🙏🏿❤️
Yes this is an older video but oh my this helped me so so much! I was just about to buy a full line that wasn’t even for my hair type😳 you saved me girl, thank you so much!
I really really appreciate this cause I've been trying for months to figure out which line from this brand might work for my hair 😩 now I know where to start!
watched the video for 2 minutes and i can tell your are the sweetest person alive. 2 languages and you did so much research for other people… such a kind soul. i hope the best for you! ( and your hair ofc😂) i’m gonna continue to watch!
I loved this in depth summary of all these lines - I will admit, I am one of the overwhelmed from all of them and just chose the most popular (the coconut hibiscus). Someone mentioned that if you don’t have “Afro-type” hair, to not get it but it has been pretty well to my hair so idk.
Awesome video! All of shea moisture’s products are silicone free, the sugarcane extract and meadow foam seed line states that it’s silicone free because it was created to be an all natural competitor for other companies’ products that contain silicones while offering the same/better results.
I personally mix my favorite products from each line. So I use the coconut and hibiscus shampoo and conditioner, jamaican black castor oil leave in conditioner and curl cream, and the raw shea butter deep condition. Using one line never worked for me, and after mixing, my hair excelled.
I recently began mixing them as well. The Coconut & Hibiscus line is always my go to but once I started using the Jamaican Castor Oil line with it I got crazy results. The Coconut Custard Wash & Go line is LIFE and smells sooo good. This video was mad helpful!
I’m only a few minutes in and I’m hooked! After 2 babies my hair has changed... it has grown so much luckily but with my new length I’m learning that I need to care got it differently. Thank you so much!
The French Frizz I will! One question, I have 2C hair and the “wrong products” I bought were the: Jamaican Black Castor Oil Strengthen & Restore Shampoo + conditioner. Do you think this will ruin my wave pattern?
I'm just starting to transition/grow out my damaged curls and felt overwhelmed looking for the right products! This video has helped SO much, thank you for this amazing video x
Wow this is the best thing on this app by far !! So necessary, soooo needed !! I’ve been using Shea Moisture forever as I please, but actually knowing the benefits of each product line is amazing bless you
Thank you so so much for this!! I want to get involved in this brand but I had no idea what type hair I have or what would work for me, their website is overwhelming yet uninformative. I’m so surprised at 6:00 because I thought I’d have to go for something for dry hair or oily hair but oily root and dry ends is how mine are! So glad that’s all hair types as im 2A
Thanks so, so much for this. I live in Australia where we get a very limited range and at more than 2x the price of the USA, so knowing which of the 2 lines sold here, saves a lot of money and wastage. I’m so grateful for your detailed coverage. Cheers.

This was very helpful. I'm a guy who doesn't do much with my hair but recently I decided to grow it out.I think I have type 3 hair and I'm just trying to keep it looking nice bring down some of the breakage. So thank you for this info.😃
Octopus Wiggle okay thanks i’ll try thattt. also rn i’m using only shampoo , conditioner, and a detangler and even tho my hair turns out frizzy it’s somehow kinda defined
I change my hair color often (mostly neon colors) and I also have very dry fine hair. The restore and strengthen line works wonders for my hair and it doesn't strip my color. Absolutely love it
The Manuka Honey line does NOTHING for my type 4 hair. Jamaican Black Castor is truly the only Shea Moisture line that does anything special for my hair as far as moisture. Coconut Hibiscus is also great for making my hair appear full (swells my curls). Thanks for the video! It was interesting to learn about them all.
See it didn't work for me until I big chopped and the coconut and hibiscus does NOTHING for me! But I feel you, I hate when the one thing that seems to work for everybody doesn't work for me. It makes me feel... broken LOL
I have type 2a but I love the Manuka honey and Madura oil line and it works great for my hair so use it if you have super dry hair and it works for Almost any type of dry hair
OMG! you're amazing, thank you, the way you researched, analyzed and categorized everything, then summarized it in the description is so helpful, thank you so much
Thank you for doing a thorough review addressing the variety of lines they offer. I just got on their website and most of the products you mentioned are no longer there. It is hard to pick what may work for you because they made it very confusing for the consumer. Many lines overlap. Really appreciate the insight and analysis. Thank you.
Amazing video!! Well done! I have always wanted someone to crack the shea moisture code and you did it! Thank you for doing all of that work and sharing it with us! I have type 3 hair but love the argan oil and almond milk line.
It's funny you say that because the Argan Oil and Almond line is WHY I started to think about doing this video. It was sold-out online and I couldn't find it anywhere in my stores so it's while looking for it somewhere online that I was like "waitment!! It's not even FOR MY HAIR!"

You saved the day ! New to this brand and i had no idea what type of hair was mentioned on the website and overwhelemed with the amount of products they have. THANK YOU !!
Great video! Thanks for doing this research- u brought more clarity than the manufacturers! Shea moisture used to give specific info about their lines but now they are just invested in the marketing!
This guide is really helpful! Thank you so much for doing the work and making it available! I'm sending this to every curlfriend I recommended Shea Moisture to!
Hii I'm 4c/b high porosity shoulder length without shrinkage and I just wanted to say that the leave in conditioner for their Jamaican Black Castor Oil is the best thing.. the way it just sinks into my hair and makes it so easy to comb and soft and beautiful.. it's honestly so magical. This was one of the first products I ever fell into when I first went natural and about 7 years later, it is still so so good to me. Just a heads up for anyone who's still looking
Thank you so much for this video it was honestly extremely helpful! Now im excited to try other Shea Moisture products lol....ps the fact that you did this in English and French is badass lol
13:40 “I don’t know why you would try to fight (shrinkage) since it’s just your hair” Me: *laughs in 14 inch long 4c hair that looks 4 inches long when in a stretched twist out style* 😂 amazing video! Thanks for doing the research 🤗
I started using the Shea Moisture products this year, specifically the Manuka Honey & Mafura Oil line. Funny you say it's for type 4 hair. Mine, I think it's somewhere between a 2 and 3 type, and dry. But that Manuka Honey line did wonders for my hair, unlike any other hair product I've used since like🤔...birth!! So I've been searching for other lines to try and got so 😟😩confused with Shea Moisture's site (and I'm very picky when it comes to hair products). But your video has helped me decide which ones to try out now. 😊Thank you so much!! 👍💜
Thank you so much! I have type 2-3 hair and I’ve just started the journey of wearing my hair naturally. Shea moisture is an accessible brand to me and I was so confused on what products I should use for my hair. Thank you for organizing that. Very helpful.
The coconut water fruit fusion shampoo and conditioner was always my favorite, but I can't find it where I live anymore. So, I go back to an old fave, the JBCO, and trying out the manuka honey and yogurt line
Amy O'Connor the yucca and plantain was awesome!! It was a good lower dose of protein while also giving moisture. They need to get rid of that red palm oil and bring yucca back!
@@kaylaj.3743 agree!!! You can even go online and see all the disappointed reviews so idk what's up, why it was discontinued or if they plan on bringing it back
Am not sure why but I so badly want shea moisture to work for my type 4 hair. So girl! Thank you so much for saving me a bunch of money and precious time choosing the right one!
Great Analysis. Thank you I prefer the Shea Moisture Black Jamaican Castor oil range. Only thing is my hair is curly but also not dense or very thick neither is it thin and its type 3. I do not suffer dandruff and i use dye to cover my grey so the classifications that Shea Moisture provides does not address types in a clear cut manner. For example dyed hair is not necessarily dry or damaged.
Thank you! Thank you for not only taking the time to let us know what product is best for each hair type. But thank you for the graphic of the different hair types!!! I had begun to hear the different types in many, many videos, but I had been natural for years at that point. So, didn’t know how my hair was classified. I do now.
Hi, I have 3b hair and I suffer from having very dry hair, and it is also heat damaged. I'm looking for a shampoo that is going to give my hair extra moisture. What Shea moisture shampoo would you recommend me to use? :)
Actually I don't think shampoo gives moisture but I would try a Mielle or Camille Rose Naturals. All the Shea Moisture shampoos I have tried are rather stripping.
Thank you, thank you, thank you! This was sooooo helpful! I don’t understand why they don’t already have something like your matrix on their website. They should absolutely pay you to make their product comparison charts. Really great breakdown, thanks again! ✌🏽❤️
Are you sure all their lines have sillicones in them? I really thought for all these years Shea moisture is silicone free😳 and by the way, you did a great job with the video!😊 very helpful
Maja Bobič hey! I misspoke because I was confused as to why they were to market a Silicone Free line if all their products are silicone free. Someone mentioned in the comment that it prob was one of the first line they have and wanted to market it that way but all of them are essentially silicone free!
ik this is very old but i’m still stuck on if i should get the Jamaican black caster oil line or the coconut hibiscus line? my hair is like 3B/3C so yeah and it’s very short. I also have a mix between high and low porosity hair so yh. like my hair takes long to dry (air drying) it’s very tangly and knotty, dries very quickly and has so much product build up on my scalp and some crusty flakey dandruff. edit: so i decided to get the coconut hibiscus shampoo, i’m getting the conditioner when it’s back in stock, but so far, the top of my head is AMAZING. it’s rlly soft and has a good shine. and when i do a pony tail, the top of my hair is kinda bumpy (my hair is curly that’s why) and it got even more bumpy, so it means there’s more volume in my curls so yh! 10/10 would recommend
Water-soluble silicones are good for your hair because they're not going to build-up on your scalp. Silicone-free products tend to use alternatives and it's those chemicals we don't fully understand. For instance, cleansing products still need surfactants to clean, they just not might be using SLS or SLES.
I need whatever one that helps with softening my hair and nourishing it more. Anything that works with relaxing the hair Sounds like the black Jamaican castore oil line and the raw shea butter one is something I should try out
Im rlly struggling with my hairtype, my hair was 1-2 years ago curly, like you could tell it was curly and not wavy or anything . I had bouncy curls. Then i cut my hair a few times. when it start to grow ,it came out not so bouncy or so curly like it was before .It is now more wavy than curly .in the ends i always have a curl and in the middle part its wavy . And the reason why im struggling is because i actually had no curls when i was in elementary school after that i got 3 type curls after i bleached it, whitch is rlly rlly weird and now all my bleach is gone because i cut it and i have my natural hair ,and now its not that curly how it used to be. But i have to say that i changed my routine, because now i do hairstyles on wet hair and dont really wear it naturally maybe thats the reason why it got wavy? But i also tried to not do hairstyles on my wet hair, and just air dry it naturally and it came out like i described it before. Its wavy in the middle part and has a curl on the ends. I rlly rlly dont know what my actual hairtype is and im so confused can someone please help me
I think it may have just been bleach damage that it was curly.. maybe not. You could try the curly girl method and find your hair type and get products.
I hope it was helpful for you guys! Which one is your favorite? Any surprises?
The Yuca Plantain masque is my current favorite shea moisture product. I enjoy the entire Superfruit complex multivitamin line, except for the leave in conditioner. I like the JBCO line, too.

If your hair is experiencing shrinkage that’s a good thing because it means your hair is healthy!
That's what I learnt!
idk I have hella shrinkage but my hair is breaking off so bad it’s dry and I have some single strand knots that are the worst
I'm not sure if this was worded properly lol, curly hair ALMOST always shrinks naturally and can still be damaged 😅
Laura i think they meant if it’s shrinking MORE than it used to its a sign of healthy hair
Not necessarily....
when your hair is only 2b but is obsessed with the products for type 3-4🤣🤣🤣

@@thefrenchfrizz9792 you're welcome! definitely a subscbriber here!
Thank you for this. I never cared to do research on their products.
Great job, thank you for the very detailed video 👏🏾👏🏾👍🏾👍🏾.
Thank you so much! Glad it could help!
Thank you SO MUCH!!! That video is so cool!!! Shea moisture is so confusing to me and I have no idea what to buy! This really breaks it DOWN!! Thanks!
13:40 “I don’t know why you would try to fight (shrinkage) since it’s just your hair”
Me: *laughs in 14 inch long 4c hair that looks 4 inches long when in a stretched twist out style*
😂 amazing video! Thanks for doing the research 🤗
GIRL!!! I’m post big chop now and I had NO IDEA what the hell i was talking about 🤣🤣 shrinkage is A LIAR!!!!
The French Frizz 🤣🤣🤣
@@thefrenchfrizz9792 😭😭😭
Same mines 11 inch long but shrinks to 3.5 inch😂
I started using the Shea Moisture products this year, specifically the Manuka Honey & Mafura Oil line. Funny you say it's for type 4 hair. Mine, I think it's somewhere between a 2 and 3 type, and dry. But that Manuka Honey line did wonders for my hair, unlike any other hair product I've used since like🤔...birth!! So I've been searching for other lines to try and got so 😟😩confused with Shea Moisture's site (and I'm very picky when it comes to hair products). But your video has helped me decide which ones to try out now. 😊Thank you so much!! 👍💜
Michelle Nieves that’s awesome!! It probably was very rich for your hair and it helped! Let me know what you tried and if you like them as much!!
@@thefrenchfrizz9792 Will do. 🙂
THANK YOU so much for making this video
So glad i found this my natural hair is a mix between 2c and 3a but i have a bunch of heat damage thank you!!!
You're welcome!!!
Love this, the work that's gone into this info is amazing.
Thank you so much! I have type 2-3 hair and I’ve just started the journey of wearing my hair naturally. Shea moisture is an accessible brand to me and I was so confused on what products I should use for my hair. Thank you for organizing that. Very helpful.
Thank you!!
The coconut water fruit fusion shampoo and conditioner was always my favorite, but I can't find it where I live anymore. So, I go back to an old fave, the JBCO, and trying out the manuka honey and yogurt line
Summer Rae I’ve actually NEVER seen it in my stores! It’s crazy! But JBCO is bae!
I think it might be discontinued. They already discontinued my two favorites, the low porosity and the plantain and yucca :(
Amy O'Connor the yucca and plantain was awesome!! It was a good lower dose of protein while also giving moisture. They need to get rid of that red palm oil and bring yucca back!
@@kaylaj.3743 agree!!! You can even go online and see all the disappointed reviews so idk what's up, why it was discontinued or if they plan on bringing it back
One of the most Detailed, well researched TH-camr that's helping others! Lots of love from Singapore!
Thank you SO SO much!
Thank you for doing so much work
Lily_of_the_Forest thanks for commenting your appreciation!!
Finding out Shea Moisture products contain silicone here blew my mind. Now I'm off to read ingredient lists!
YES I would! Sometimes they don't classify PPGs as silicones because they are water solubles but some people want 0000 silicones.
i love you for this. This is amazing. Thank you so much!
Haha thanks! Make sure your lines are not discontinued by checking my update!
Am not sure why but I so badly want shea moisture to work for my type 4 hair. So girl! Thank you so much for saving me a bunch of money and precious time choosing the right one!
Hope you find your GRAIL!!!
That’s a lot of information. Thanks 😊
Thank you so much! Hope it helped!
For example dyed hair is not necessarily dry or damaged.
ugh this is amazing! Thank you Queen!!
Thank you for doing a none sponsored video. Even though I don't have afro hair. Sick of TH-camrs saying this is great just to get a cut of the money.
This video is so helpful, thank you!!!
Iolanda Anjos you’re welcome!! Glad it could help!!
Thank you! Thank you for not only taking the time to let us know what product is best for each hair type. But thank you for the graphic of the different hair types!!! I had begun to hear the different types in many, many videos, but I had been natural for years at that point. So, didn’t know how my hair was classified. I do now.
So happy this could help!!
You did great! Thank you
Thank you!!
14.54, this is exactly what I did. Thankyou for your knowledge, I know know I need the plantain line but spent money on another line
All the Shea Moisture shampoos I have tried are rather stripping.
well for me -fellow 4c- the jbco shampoo is my favourite ever, It feels clean but not stripping at all x
This was SO SO helpful 😭😭😭👌👌👌. You've saved me hours of research 🙏🙏
Yaass love to hear that!
Thank you, thank you, thank you! This was sooooo helpful! I don’t understand why they don’t already have something like your matrix on their website. They should absolutely pay you to make their product comparison charts. Really great breakdown, thanks again! ✌🏽❤️
Hey my door will be open when they reach out🤪🤪
My hair is 2-3 type but raw shea butter was very good for me anyway. Anyway, I keep this video. It was very useful! Thank you
Good to hear!! Wasn't too heavy?
Are you sure all their lines have sillicones in them? I really thought for all these years Shea moisture is silicone free😳 and by the way, you did a great job with the video!😊 very helpful
Maja Bobič hey! I misspoke because I was confused as to why they were to market a Silicone Free line if all their products are silicone free. Someone mentioned in the comment that it prob was one of the first line they have and wanted to market it that way but all of them are essentially silicone free!
This is absolutely the best video about this company. Ty
Thank you so much for putting all this effort in, it makes it so much easier for lazy people like me haha
hahaha!!
ik this is very old but i’m still stuck on if i should get the Jamaican black caster oil line or the coconut hibiscus line? my hair is like 3B/3C so yeah and it’s very short.
Dora Mercedes makes sense!
I need whatever one that helps with softening my hair and nourishing it more.
Anything that works with relaxing the hair
Sounds like the black Jamaican castore oil line and the raw shea butter one is something I should try out
These have been safe bets from what I have seen! Best of luck!
OMG I appreciate all the effort you put into making this video ... I've been looking around for a video like this.. SOOOO HELPFUL. 🙏
