Mine stopped working yesterday and I was expecting a nightmare of a job... What did we do before TH-cam... Excellent video, thank you. One thing I'd add, and just a heads up really... Given the age of the average Discovery 1, the plastic trim clips holding the door card on will no doubt find many ways to break crack, split, or just disintegrate as you pop the door card off... I spent just over a fiver on a set of plastic trim removal tools and they've probably saved me hours and pounds over the ten or so years I've had them... If you do break anything plastic most of the parts can actually be bought for not a lot of money if you want to re-fit your card properly. Me, I bought two Discovery 1's and the second one was the best investment I ever made... The little bits you salvage from it...
THANK YOU!!!!!!! Been living with a dodgy passenger door handle for two years. Had to climb over and let my wife in every time. A ten minute fix after finding this video.
Thank god I found this video. My driver side outer door handle was practically useless. Now it opens every time. Thank you very much for making this video
Many thanks to you for this video that drove me to the Manual, in which this adjustement is clearly explained. Nevertheless, I did this adjustement, it was working yesterday night...and this morning I could not open the door. Happily I did not put back the covery door panel so I am able to access mecanism from inside the car..at that time the door is still locked....let's see that tomorrow...
Excellent video! This is one of the several small niggles i've got with the door latches/locks my 90s Range Rover Classic I know what I'll be doing tomorrow! Thanks for posting.
I'm not sure exactly which bit that would be, but I do have the problem of the central locking locks being sticky, which in the past I've fixed by just putting another solenoid in parallel to the original, you can buy general purpose central locking solenoids/motors on eBay.
When I put my key in the drivers door lock it’s very stiff and while I was unlocking it something slipped and nor I can’t lock the door at all with the key , now to lock and unlock I have to go through the passenger side across to the drivers door and pull up on the locking button to unlock and push down to lock .what do you think has happened cheers
Sorry not sure which bits you mean. If you have a link to a picture I could see what you mean. I didn’t have any bits like that, that broke on my 22 year old disco
Yes, the plastic is the "STC1220" part one. www.roversnorth.com/ProductDesc.aspx?code=STC1220 I'm afraid to break something, although it seems a fairly simple procedure... a TUTORIAL would AWESOME :)
It looks like (www.thingiverse.com/thing:1306202) you prize off the metal clip from the center using a small flat bladed screwdriver and then it should pull apart. Sorry I can’t do a video of that at the moment.
@@comeinhandynow I now manged to put back the retainer, the mechanism feel tighter but the problem is the same, the nipple for the door lock fall in few mm and when that happens the handle will not open the door, same from inside I need to pull the nipple up or use the key to open
It is taking up the slack in stretched and slightly worn parts, but it took 20 years to get to that stage. Readjusting like this should last another 20 years, maybe.
Thanks, good luck fixing your lock. I'm guessing, but probably you could dismantle the lock, work out how it's meant to work, and it may be DIY fixable.
@@nikulasstefan lots of lubricant, and adjusting the nut until it opens nicely. I also had to bend the wire a bit. It was a real pain in the ass, but I eventually got it figured out. Good luck my man. I’m rooting for you. It will probably be a bit different for you, I had to try things a bit different on each door.
Hello, thank you for this video. Really well done. If the peobleme is the sale but with inside handle. Is the same solution (tourn the shaft) but the one from inside handle ? Thank you
@@comeinhandynow hello. So I tried bit Is not really the same thing. There is a nut at the end of the shaft, and I can't moove. The visibility is horrible and ly hands can't work inside. I put oil w40 on all mechanism and all work well again.
Excellent information. Door now working perfectly. Thank you

Brilliant thanks.

thanks to your video I can now open the door with the handle.. is there a similar adjustment for the throw of the actual lock rather than the handle?
I'm not sure exactly which bit that would be, but I do have the problem of the central locking locks being sticky, which in the past I've fixed by just putting another solenoid in parallel to the original, you can buy general purpose central locking solenoids/motors on eBay.
I worked it out.. you can move the plate with the actuator on it.. I did this and now it all works :-)
Merci beaucoup

Take the door card off and have a look inside probably something has come off
Is this the same for an 93 RRC?
They have the same door handles, so yes, probably
Any tips on how to replace the 2 plastic pieces from the door lock that break easily? (the beige ones) Thanks!!

comeinhandynow yes!!! The stc1220 part!!! goo.gl/images/LrZjgJ
I have no idea how to change it, looks simple but I’m afraid to screw it up 😅

I have similar problem but it's the internal handle that has excessive play. Will this sort it or is it another lever.
I suspect doing a similar thing to the rod that connects the internal handle to the lock might work. I suggest having a look inside the door.
Is it a similar fix for the inside handle?
Not sure but I imagine so.
it did now work for me I did many turns and made no difference now the big problem is I can not put back the retainer clip
Odd. Try and work out why that didn’t work. Is the handle still connected?

@@SimonLongo I know it's been a year but this could fix your problem:
th-cam.com/video/f5xRfk43-y4/w-d-xo.html
Is this fix just taking up the slack in a worn out latch assembly and therefore shortly after start happening again?
It is taking up the slack in stretched and slightly worn parts, but it took 20 years to get to that stage. Readjusting like this should last another 20 years, maybe.
Good to know. Thanks for the video!
My problem is when pulling on the door handle it slightly pulls down the door lock so you can’t open the door .
Tighten up the lock? Or check if anything broken? Then adjust as here.
Can't LOCK back door on 99 disco
nice video but did not work on mine i have broken look it self thanks anyway
