I am 46 and I just bought a piece of property from a family member and I logged it last summer and that was the third time it was logged in my lifetime. My dad logged it with tractors back in 76(year I was born) so that time a lot of it was left because it is very steep for the most part. Then he cut it again when I was in 5th grade around 86 with dozer and skidders etc. This last time when I cut it it had grown back to yielding 12,000 feet per acre. It was mostly white pine which grows fastest of any tree around here at about 2,000 ft elevation, but that still impresses me when I think about it. I might even see it cut again when I'm an old man but probably not because rough mountain loggers are going extinct. There are only a handful of real rough terrain timber cutters left in this part of the world and I am one of them and I am headed toward turning 50 in a hurry.

You said that yall are harvesting timber that was harvested 30 years ago. Would love to see what they were working with machinery and trucks and trailer in the 80's and earlier. That would be a video I would enjoy for you to talk about.

Now that y’all are back to running singles on the 635, do you have a idea on the fuel consumption difference. Haven’t seen any rattlers yet, but that’s a good thing. Have a great day

One of the biggest reasons your loader hit 18k is cause you take very very good care of it. That and John Deere and Tigercat are very well built. I love these awesome machines. I feel like a little boy watching monster trucks. 😂 😂 Thanks Tim for letting us see into your world. As always great video bud. Stay strong, stay safe out there and take care.

If money were no object are there any new machines that would speed up your operation? What would it be? Would it be just getting more trucks to haul it?

You are so right about mother nature. All you have to do is try to walk thru a tract of timber after a storm to see the impact nature can have it. We just finished marking a tract damaged by Hurricane Micheal.

Another thing about tuning more power into the 635 is can the driveline handle it? The driveline has already had trouble handling the 295 hp. No telling what more power would do the hydrostatics as well.

You were speaking on people freaking out about the timber. What a lot of people don't understand is if you don't log it you now added fuel to a forest fire or it just falls over and rots. So why not utilize it? People just throw out thier opinion and don't see what goes on behind the scenes of forestry. They judge a book by its cover. They never see how fast it grows back and see just how much better it looks after. Not all people but some only see what they want. Not all loggers are bad.

Joseph Boley I fully agree. Harvesting is necessary for future growth and health of the forest.

Ever since I was old enough to remember i loved skidders. It's what made me want to operate equipment for a living. Something about being around them at the deer camp made a lasting impression on me. Sadly to this day, I haven't had any seat time on a skidder. Not something needed in the dirt and finish business so i never have the chance.
