The world is a mixture of cultures already so cultural appropriation should really only be about individuals claiming they made something they didn't. Stop apologizing and live life. Also as a black person let me say it’s not cultural appropriation for anyone else of a different race to have braids dreadlocks or any other style usually found in black culture. If you like something of another culture it’s fine you can take part in that no problem. The problem is when when you claim it as your own that’s what cultural appropriation is.
That’s cultural appreciation so as long as you know the history, you respect it and all that then it wouldn’t necessarily be cultural appropriation.. however if youre getting the style just to seem like “cool” or something it kinda seems like you don’t care much about the history and stuff, but to be honest this youtuber looked pretty young when she had those braids so i wouldn’t really care much of it…. but dont speak for all black people

Lots of cultures had/have braids. It's a hairstyle, not a culture unless you specifically went with a cultural style and tried to claim it as your own, do not apologize for just wearing a hairstyle. The world is a mixture of cultures already so cultural appropriation should really only be about individuals claiming they made something they didn't. Stop apologizing and live life. I mean if people actually did research they'd be surprised at the amount of different cultures effect a lot of what we say and do. The typical American wedding ceremony for example involves several different cultural traditions and pagan rituals. Just stop apologizing. It's getting ridiculous and I'm a black lady. Braids were worn by Vikings, Native Americans, slaves, Chinese people, and more. Which culture do you think you're appropriating?

The idea of Cultural Appropriation in a society entirely based on the merging, acceptance, appreciation and exploration of eachothers cultures is absolutely ridiculous! As long as you're not being disrespectful then who really cares!? By these standards everyone appropriates someone else's culture at some point in the day without even knowing it because America has been such a mish mash of so many cultures and ethnicities for so long that to now start saying we need to stick to our own cultures and if not its disrespectful is sort of counter productive to what America is. It almost feels like we're going backwards.
Ppl crave for the drama
If there's seemingly no issues to deal with they'll just create some new ones
Cultural appropriation isn't appreciation. It's less about sharing culture and more about a more powerful group getting a "free pass" to wear certain clothes, hair styles etc while a minority gets discriminated because of it. Normalizing braids for white people in America isn't the same as normalizing it for black people. It's a sad but true fact of the American psyche. Just Google the crown act and the many dehumanizing things that happen to black people because of their hair. Most of these things simply don't happen to white people in the same position.
We definitely are going backwards about a lot of things, including race. But it’s promoted as “progress.” Scary times.

@@tommystrickland6268 the crown act wasn't created for shits and giggles, it was created out of genuine necessity because, and I quote, "Black women are 1.5x more likely to be sent home from the workplace because of their hair," and "Black women are 80% more likely than white women to agree with the statement: I have to change my hair from its natural state to fit in at the office." The act was made to address existing workplace and school related discrimination against black women and their hair. You can find a variety of examples in the real world, for example, "Louisiana Girl Sent Home from School Over Braided Hair Extensions," "Ruby Williams: No Child with Afro Hair Should Suffer Like Me," "Black Malden Charter Students Punished for Braided Hair Extensions," the list goes on.

What does that silliness have to do with us Americans? Oh and do you mean South Americans (lots of countries) or North Americans like The United States of America or Canada?
European countries have to deal with this stupid concept all of the time as well. Their media tells them all of the time that if they wear braids (just using the same example) they are doing the same thing.
