I must admit I don't entirely understand this story. Why did the gods protect the doll? Wouldn't it have been better to just let the woman destroy or take the doll so she would think her revenge was fulfilled? And if the gods were going to lend their protection, what was even the point of trying to deceive her with the dolls anyway? Couldn't they have protected the man himself just as well? It all seems rather strange to me.
Thank you for your comment. As Seimei said, this is not an easy case for him. The shikigami that Onmyoji can use are lower level spirits that can be used by humans and are not as powerful as gods. The Japanese gods do not think that human is the most important creature and they are very fickle. You can say that you are lucky if Onmyoji call them and they come to you. They will never be ruled by humans.
