They're basically a HSP buggy that's something like a 12 year old design. The front has waaaay too much flex in it to be controllable at speed. I had one years ago the RX version & I had to fit alloy front suspension & steering components because it was pretty uncontrollable, it made a huge difference.! The shock towers are made of bubble gum.! The diffs will take 3S power, as will the rest of the drive train, but there's no slipper clutch so the diffs can take a beating. Parts are cheap & they're everywhere too.! The brushed version costs around £130/$150 in the UK. Mine would probably still run if I wanted it to, I'll probably end up giving it to one of my neighbors kids like I often do with cheap old RCs. Another great video.!! 👍 👍 👍 Please stay safe out there mate & the very best wishes from Scotland 🏴 🙏 ❤️ 📻 🕹️ 🔋 🚗 🚖 🚕 🚔 🚚 🚙 🚘 🚓 🚒 🚑 🚐 🚎 🚤 🚁 🛩️ 👍 👍 👍
What a fun video! I have little interest in buggies and yet, I knew it would be worth watching. I didn't expect it to be this entertaining - thanks. :)
You are correct, you made a mistake with it, just like I did with the rally version, they are garbage and that's exactly where mine went. A, "live and learn" situation, thanks for the videos, better luck next time, to us both.
It's an opportunity. I'm toying with the idea of designing a chassis for it and reusing the good parts. Dunno if I will yet but it drove so nicely, I'm considering it!
My son drives a strada as well. He bashes the crap out of that thing and never breaks it. A month ago he jumped i like 6 meters high in the dunes and no problems at all. That setup is a strada mt. Maybe thats much stronger but that thing is a beast. The vid is on my chanel
I do have an ultimate 917 build I'll be doing, not that this is anything new per se. Also have the HPI RS4 Sport3 Flux Ford GT here awaiting its maiden.
I completely agree with the final assessment. I don't know this Maverick model but I have been able to see the old models, both the monster and the 1/10 truggy and they were of terrible quality. The entire car would bend and break at the slightest jump or crash. It seems like the new monster is better but I haven't seen it in person yet.
13:10, he was nicer than I've been, I've referred to your driving as "like a drunk monkey" hahahah One point: your rubbish driving can be tempered by turning down the end points on the steering so you don't over steer in turns. I've noticed that about your driving, it's more forgiving on pavement but spins you out on dirt. But it doesn't help that your track isn't the smoothest either. You did really well when you were on the paved track doing the Rlarrlo.....
I'll keep it turned up so I can improve. Though when I'm not trying to observe, think and talk usefully, I can concentrate on just driving and am able to get a car around the track much more readily!
At least your review was better than the car😂. Hoboa have just released a 2.0 of there Hyper TT which might be worth a look for you. I’m hoping some of the components are interchangeable with the original.
It drove so well I was really wondering why it had been discontinued! Surely it should have been really, really popular for the money! And then... Oh right, I see. A buggy that can't survive one crash. Big sad.
It gets added to the buggies on the channel. Before it broke, it was a frontrunner for my favourite driving buggy. Oh well. I must try the Corally buggies, they're meant to be quite good.
oh no craig youve got yourself into another predicament.if you would like a value buggy you have to get yourself a wltoys 124017 v2. i know you will get a kick out of the picture on the box of the esc it is called "electronic governor"find another esc one that doesnt govern and lets you use a 3s pack and please film this for all of us adoring subscribers!!
chassis is the same as my absima touring 1/10. Good but not for hard bashing since plastic is a lot more brittle than for example any hbx i have ever tested.
I watched this literally right up to just before the crash and was pleasantly surprised, enough to nearly start looking for ones for sale... Then I watched the remainder of the vid and firmly decided against it! Hahaha!
@RCTNT I thought It was strange that losi would discontinue this version. It's such a great desert racer! The new 1/10 baja rey is a 2.0 and doesn't share enough parts. The feont suspension, roll cage, body and rear axle are all different😪 Have three new baja rey. One is being fully built as a tribute and will stay on shelf most it's life. These other two -king shocks and a black rhino version will be upgraded to withstand my style of bashing. Two baja rey! So now me and my dad can race equally😁👍
This car is just a HSP warhead with the radio gear and battery swapped to opposite sides of the chassis, I tried running these but there is just too many drawbacks that would cost to much to fix and even then it would still be lacking. There are option parts but HSP have a new buggy that fixed most of the problems with this car, but I haven't seen the new car for sale here yet,
Oh yeah? That's interesting, thanks! I have little experience with HSP so didn't recognise it. But it's unsurprising that it's such an old design. I'll keep an eye out for HSP's updated version, maybe it's worth a look. Cheers
I had the "Exceed Sunfire" variant of this buggy and I wasn't impressed, this chassis works as a slow, brushed "drift" car but it falls apart anywhere else.
And doesn't that just sound depressing! Honestly, it went pretty well until it broke. I was quite enjoying it. So much so that when I get a bit more time after my current project is complete, I'm still playing with the idea of designing a better chassis for it, with the same geometry, and moving everything across to it. I reckon it could still be great. Just needs a little more thought to durability.
You could make that track super cool with minimal effort (minus any rock removal)… but the track is cool now🤙🏻…if you had a couple mates and you had an outline , boundaries to stay in… would be fun… superfun down the road. I would bring a different car with me,, as you know I will not be purchasing that piece of sh!t😆
I just hate you spent your money on it, I've done it it sucks. I've had a maverick it was the ion line rally car, stripped the internal diff gears day 1, glued it together, stripped crown gear, new diff was 33$ and I paid 99 for car, so it sits on a shelf bound for the dumpster
I'm looking at it like I got a reasonable brushless system and a set of wheels I can use on another machine. I'll give the radio system to someone at the club who needs one and the servo goes in the spares bin for buggies and stuff. It's not a disaster - and I got a good little video out of it anyway! Cheers
Such a poor design decision! There's just no technical reason to do that! Or at least, give it a little cover if you are really attached to using e-clips!
Agreed! Though the Quantum range seems to be nicer all round compared to the Maverick range, though I admit I haven't really looked into what makes them different. I really like their rally car though, it seems to be really decent for the money - which is partly why this thing was so disappointing!
Awful brand, awful quality. I worked in RC retail for a number of years, these are 'ok' for a kid, in brushed format and as you've shown, they break for fun. Save your money and just buy better, plenty of choice for vehicles not made of chineseium and weak plastics

Good information! I appreciate people warning others when something is not worth anything, like that buggy.

Sad for your Strada XB loss...it shone so dimly 🤔and died so young. My goto has been the WLToys 124008...tough little buggy and crazy cheap 👌
Thanks. Lol that would have been the better buy for sure

Could well be the difference. The buggy ain't great!
Thanks for checking it out for us. Do you have any on road stuff coming up? Or maybe the newest Grom from Arrma?

Great review Craig. I had high hopes but unfortunately the car was disappointing. Oh well, they can't all be hidden gems.

The caster is near zero on the back. The camber, on the other hand... ;)
I misspoke here, quite right.
At least now you have a baseline and maybe you can eventually tests whatever replaces that sorry thing. 🍻

That's fair, though I wouldn't call this 8 minute drive "hard bashing". It should survive a few tumbles!
I have one of these I have upgraded the shocks and motor and esc and different wheels and tyres I still use it it's good fun
I'm glad you're enjoying it!

I just bought 2 new discontinued Losi Baja Rey v2. for $700.
Beautiful trucks, shame they're not making them anymore😢
Oh really? I didn't know they'd discontinued them already.

@surfside75 that's cool man, enjoy 😎
Seb got a brushed version from MH at their "garage sale for $40 or $50 no remote

had a maverick strada rx and the body on that is super brittle, car itself was great, body was way too weak 👍👍😃
